Chapter 1: Before Installation Performance Considerations Performance Considerations Multiple Teradata Manager PCs with a Single Teradata Database When multiple Teradata Manager PCs access a single Teradata Database, the volume of requests may degrade the database performance. To avoid degrading performance of the Teradata Database, Teradata Manager provides a network feature where one Teradata Manager PC is set up as a server of data to the other client PCs. Communication is over a TCP/IP network. In client/server operation, data collector applications run on the server PC, obtaining performance data from the Teradata Database. When client PCs run supported applications, they obtain performance data from the server PC. For more information, see the Teradata Manager User Guide. Important: Before running any Teradata Manager Client applications, be sure the Client PC is running the same version of Teradata Manager software as the Server PC. Improve Logon Performance The time required to logon to a Teradata system can be greatly improved by adding an environment variable for each Teradata Database system. (Environment variables are defined using the System control panel.) The variable name is the host name of the Database (without the copn suffix). For example, if the Database is named Productioncop1, referred to as Production when logging on to the system, the variable name would be Production. The variable value is the number of copn entries in the hosts file. This number is the same as the number of parsing engines connected to your network. For example, if there are eight copn entries, the variable value is Teradata Manager Installation Guide

CHAPTER 2 Teradata Manager Installation This chapter provides step-by-step instructions for installing Teradata Manager. Task Important actions to take before upgrading your Teradata Manager installation Verifying the connection from your Teradata Manager PC to the Teradata Database Handling of non-ascii character set object names (for example, KANJISJIS_0S) Running the Teradata Manager installation program Configuring and customizing your installed Teradata Manager software Installing a Windows Help program so online help files display when using Windows Vista operating systems Additional Information Task 1: Actions To Take Before Upgrading on page 17 Task 2: Verify the PC-to-Teradata Database Connection on page 19 Task 3: [Optional] Enable Support for Non-ASCII Character Sets on page 20 Task 4: Run the Installation Program on page 20 Task 5: Configure Teradata Manager on page 26 Task 6: Windows Vista Operating System on page 27 Installing only online help Installing Only Online Help on page 27 Task 1: Actions To Take Before Upgrading If not upgrading from a previous release, skip to Task 2: Verify the PC-to-Teradata Database Connection on page 19. Actions to Take if Upgrading Software from a Previous Release If upgrading your Teradata Manager software from a previous release, use the following procedure to prepare your system for the new version: As a safety precaution, perform a full backup of your Teradata Manager system, including the current data, output, and log files. Note: The installation program is designed to preserve the files of all Teradata Manager installations already on the PC. If any existing Teradata Manager installation is removed, program files are deleted, but the preferences from the registry are saved. Teradata Manager Installation Guide 17

Chapter 2: Teradata Manager Installation Task 1: Actions To Take Before Upgrading Note: The person removing Teradata Manager must be a member of the Administrators group. Actions to Take if Upgrading the Teradata Database If upgrading the Teradata Database from V2R6.x or 12.0 to 13.0 and Teradata Manager was configured on the V2R6.x or 12.0 database, use the following procedure: 1 Backup the dbcmngr database. 2 Upgrade the Teradata Database to Run Teradata Manager 13.0 Database Setup on the upgraded Teradata Database. This is necessary even if Teradata Manager 13.0 was already configured on V2R6.x or Recommendations Accept the default program installation directory and Program Folder. By default, the program icons are installed in the Teradata Manager 13.0 folder, and the program is installed in a Program Files directory of the same name. When upgrading an installation to a new version, the installation program prevents an upgrade in an existing directory. Therefore, if the user intends to use or remove the older Teradata Manager version after the upgrade, do not install the new version into the old directory (for example, \Program Files\NCR\Teradata Manager). If the same directory is used, some files essential for running the new version will be removed. To determine if a file is missing or at the wrong version If removing an older version of Teradata Manager after installing Teradata Manager 13.0, do the following to determine if a file is missing or at the wrong version: 1 Run the Verify application. See Verify Software Compatibility on page If a file is missing or at the wrong version, run the Repair option. a b c d From the Windows desktop, click Start>Settings>Control Panel>Add or Remove Programs or from the Windows Vista desktop, click Start>Settings>Control Panel>Programs and Features. Click Teradata Manager number, where number is the version number. Click Change/Remove. Click Repair. 3 Run the Verify application again. 18 Teradata Manager Installation Guide

Chapter 2: Teradata Manager Installation Task 2: Verify the PC-to-Teradata Database Connection Task 2: Verify the PC-to-Teradata Database Connection Verify the Teradata Manager PC can communicate with the Teradata Database system. If upgrading from a previous release or already verified your communications, skip to Task 3: [Optional] Enable Support for Non-ASCII Character Sets on page 20. To verify communication with the Teradata Database Enter the PING command from a Windows DOS window to check communication with the Teradata Database. For example, PING ssscop1 where sss is the Teradata Database name at your site. The Teradata Database system returns the message: Reply from xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx where xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx is the IP Address of the Database. If the PING command does not receive a response from the Database, check with your Network Administrator for the cause of the error. Note: Failure to communicate with the Teradata Database can be caused by an incorrect or missing IP address and system name in the hosts file on the PC. The hosts file is located in the system32\drivers\etc subdirectory of the directory in which Windows is installed. If Domain Name Services (DNS) is not used, check that the HOSTS file contains entries similar to the following: xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx ssscop1 where xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx is the functional IP address and sss is the Teradata Database name. If DNS is used, contact your network administrator for help with system identification. Ensure that a remote access provider, such as PPP, is available to enable the PC to access the Teradata Database from a remote location. Teradata Manager Installation Guide 19

Chapter 2: Teradata Manager Installation Task 3: [Optional] Enable Support for Non-ASCII Character Sets Task 3: [Optional] Enable Support for Non- ASCII Character Sets Non-ASCII Character Sets If your installation requires the handling of non-ascii character set object names (for example, KANJISJIS_0S), complete this procedure. 1 Create a new directory x:\coplib (where x is an available drive). 2 Copy clispb.dat from the Teradata Client for Windows installation directory to x:\coplib. The default installation directory is c:\program Files\Teradata\Client\13.0\cliv2. 3 Add the following two lines to x:\coplib\clispb.dat, specifying the database character set name to be used in place of KANJISJIS_0S: charset_type=n charset_id=kanjisjis_0s 4 Add the new user environment variable COPLIB to your Windows settings, and set the location to x:\coplib. 5 Restart your PC to enable the new user environment variable. Note: This procedure is not required to run BTEQ Window. When initiating a BTEQ Window session, the session character set must be selected. Since BTEQ Window sessions now require this initial character set choice, the charset_id value as defined in the clispb.dat file is not processed. Task 4: Run the Installation Program Teradata Manager is installed using the Teradata Tools and Utilities installation media. Typical, Custom, and Network Installations Running the installation, you can: Typical Custom Network Install all the applications (Teradata Manager and all other applications on the Database Management installation CD). During installation, progress monitors will appear. No action is required. This may take a few minutes. 21 Read the information in the Teradata Manager Service dialog box, then click Next. 22 In the InstallShield Wizard Complete dialog box, choose whether or not to view online help or to start Database Setup, then click Finish. 23 In the Setup Complete dialog box, choose whether or not to view the Release Definition, then click Finish. 24 Remove the installation CD from the CD drive. 25 If installing Teradata Manager or other Teradata Tools and Utilities 13.0 software on a new workstation or upgrading the CLIv2 package on Microsoft Windows platforms, reboot before using the Teradata Manager Service. This ensures the service acquires the updated system PATH environment variable. To check status of the Teradata Manager Service, see the Teradata Manager User Guide. Teradata Manager Installation Guide 25

Chapter 2: Teradata Manager Installation Task 5: Configure Teradata Manager Customizing Teradata Manager Features During installation, you have the option of customizing which features are installed on a Client or Server PC. Typically, this is done if you want the user to have limited functionality or access. These features include Alert Viewer, Alert Policy Editor, BTEQWIN, Error Log Analyzer, Locking Logger, LogOnOff Usage, Performance Monitor, Priority Scheduler Administrator, Remote Console, Session Information, and Statistics Collection. To specify which Teradata Manager features are installed 1 Complete steps 1 through 17 in To install Teradata Manager Server on your PC on page In the Setup Type dialog box, click Custom, then click Next. 3 In the Select Features dialog box, select the features you want to install, then click Next. 4 Complete the rest of the installation using the InstallShield Wizard. Task 5: Configure Teradata Manager After Teradata Manager is installed, see the Teradata Manager User Guide: Chapter 4, Configuring Teradata Manager for instructions on setting up the program. 26 Teradata Manager Installation Guide

Chapter 2: Teradata Manager Installation Task 6: Windows Vista Operating System Task 6: Windows Vista Operating System If Teradata Manager is being installed on a Windows Vista operating system, perform this task. Starting with Windows Vista, a Windows Help program called WinHlp32.exe is no longer included. This application is required to display 32-bit online help files. Use the following procedure to install the Windows Help program. To install the Windows Help program Teradata Manager must be installed before proceeding. 1 Go to 2 In the Search box, type WinHlp32 Vista to locate the WinHlp32.exe file. Note: Windows Vista users must pass a short validation process before downloading the file. Once validated, specific instructions are given for obtaining the download. 3 From Files in This Download, the following files appear: For 32-bit operating systems, click Download for Windows6.0-KB x86.msu. For 64-bit operating systems, click Download for Windows6.0-KB x64.msu. 4 Click Run and follow the instructions. The default location is the c:\windows directory. Note: Context-sensitive help works, but the Contents, Index, and Search tabs may not be available if full WinHelp macro functionality is not enabled. For more information, see the Microsoft Knowledge Base article Installing Only Online Help For users interested in learning about Teradata Manager, but do not want to install the application, you can install just the online help using the following procedure. To install only online help 1 Complete steps 2 through 17 in To install Teradata Manager Server on your PC on page In the Setup Type dialog box, click Help Only, then click Next. 3 Complete the rest of the installation using the Installation Wizard. For information on using online help or to allow online help content to appear using Internet Explorer, version 7.0, see Teradata Manager User Guide. Teradata Manager Installation Guide 27

APPENDIX A Troubleshoot This appendix provides information for troubleshooting your Teradata Manager installation. Problem How to be sure the software on your system is compatible with this new release What to do if Teradata Manager generates errors What to do if your SNMP registry key is not configured correctly Registering the Teradata Manager Service after installing Teradata Manager 13.0, and then going back to version 7.2 A graphics server problem after installing Teradata Manager 13.0, and then going back to version 7.1 Additional Information Verify Software Compatibility on page 29 Teradata Manager Errors on page 30 SNMP Key Configuration for Alerts on page 31 ISService.exe Registration on page 32 Graphics Server Problem on page 33 An XML Parser Upgrade problem XML Parser Upgrade Problem on page 33 Installing a Japanese version of Teradata Manager on a non-japanese PC Install a Japanese Version on a Non-Japanese PC on page 33 Verify Software Compatibility If Teradata Manager does not run after installing it, be sure the software on your system is compatible with this new release by running the Verify application. To run the Verify application 1 Locate the Verify application (Verify.exe) in the BIN subdirectory of the Teradata Manager application installation. The default location for 32-bit platforms is: c:\program Files\Teradata\Teradata Manager 13.0\BIN Teradata Manager Installation Guide 29

Appendix A: Troubleshoot Teradata Manager Errors The default location for 64-bit platforms is: c:\program Files(x86)\Teradata\Teradata Manager 13.0\BIN 2 Double-click the Verify.exe file to launch the application. A message displays indicating if there are any software mismatches. 3 If there are any problems, click View Log to open the Verify log file. 4 Check the Verify log file. This log file shows a detailed version and location description of each required file, and the ability to flag the compatibility status. If the status of any of the files is questionable, print the log file and contact Teradata to resolve the problem. Note: If a custom installation was performed where only a subset of the Teradata Manager applications were installed, Verify may report some software as Not Found. If a Client-type installation is performed, the server files will be reported as Not Found (AlertAction.dll, AlertMem.dll, AlertSrv.dll, DataCollect.dll, ISService.exe, and tmsnmpx.dll). Teradata Manager Errors Error messages appear in pop-up dialog boxes. Review the Teradata Manager log file (tmgr_u.log) to get information about the error. See the Teradata Manager User Guide for the location of this file. When the cause of an error cannot be readily identified, see Table 5. Table 5: Troubleshooting Hints If... An application is unable to log on to the associated Teradata Database Locking Logger will not run Then... Use BTEQ Window, installed from the Teradata Tools and Utilities Utility Pack CD, to log on to the Database. This is the quickest way to see if your connection is down. If logging on from a BTEQ Window is successful, but not from your application, examine the default logon information for the associated Database by selecting Options>Change Logon Settings from the Teradata Manager Menu Bar. Be sure the Locking Logger user is defined using the Teradata Manager Database Setup utility. To use Locking Logger, the user must have the correct database permissions. 30 Teradata Manager Installation Guide

Appendix A: Troubleshoot SNMP Key Configuration for Alerts Table 5: Troubleshooting Hints (continued) If... An error occurs stating any of the following: VC++ compiler is not installed no C++ compiler C/C++ compiler is not installed no compiler available Then... Install a Microsoft Visual C++ compiler on the database if the Teradata Database is running on a Windows operating system. Do this if Teradata stored procedures will be used. Stored procedures are used in basic features of Teradata Manager such as creating a user. For more information about installing the compiler, see Teradata Database V2R6.0 for Microsoft Windows 2000 Installation Guide, B K. Note: The Teradata Database must be configured for compiling stored procedures. See the Teradata Database documentation for more information. SNMP Key Configuration for Alerts If there are two versions of Teradata Manager installed, and the most recently installed version is uninstalled, your SNMP registry key will not be configured correctly. To use SNMP for alerts, modify the following keys to have the correct values. Table 6: SNMP Key Configuration - Key 1 Label Key Value Name Value Data Value HKLM\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\SNMP\Parameters\ExtensionAgents Any value unique in the list of values, for example a number For Teradata Manager 13.0 and later releases: SOFTWARE\Teradata \TeradataManager\SNMPAgent\CurrentVersion For Teradata Manager 12.0 and earlier releases: SOFTWARE\NCR\TeradataManager\SNMPAgent\CurrentVersion Table 7: SNMP Key Configuration - Key 2 Label Key Value Name Value For Teradata Manager 13.0 and later releases: HKLM\SOFTWARE\Teradata\TeradataManager\SNMPAgent\CurrentVersion For Teradata Manager 12.0 and earlier releases: HKLM\SOFTWARE\NCR\TeradataManager\SNMPAgent\CurrentVersion PathName Teradata Manager Installation Guide 31
