Wise Package Studio 8.0 MR1 Release Notes This document includes the following topics: About Wise Package Studio 8.0 MR1 What's new in Wise Package Studio 8.0 MR1 General installation and upgrade information System requirements Upgrading to 8.0 MR1 from an earlier version of Wise Package Studio Known issues Fixed issues Documentation that is installed Other information About Wise Package Studio 8.0 MR1 Wise Package Studio helps system administrators and desktop integration teams streamline the process of preparing software applications for enterprise use. Applications that are repackaged with Wise Package Studio are deployable by all leading software distribution systems.
4 Wise Package Studio 8.0 MR1 Release Notes What's new in Wise Package Studio 8.0 MR1 What's new in Wise Package Studio 8.0 MR1 In the 8.0 MR1 release of Wise Package Studio, the following features are introduced: Added 64-bit support In the WiseScript Package Editor and WiseScript Editor, the Wisescript custom actions that interact with file system and registries now support the 64-bit operating system. The custom actions Find file in path and Read-Update text file use the newly added 64-bit support variable %x64sys32% to search, read, and update a file on 64-bit systems. The SetupCapture tool now supports the 64-bit operating system. Added new server roles and services option On the System Requirements page, you can now specify requirements for server roles and services for installations on computers running Windows Server 2008 R2 SP1 and Windows 7 SP1. The SetupCapture tool s exclusion list properly excludes Windows 7 files and registry keys. The wisepssc.ini and repackage.ini exclusion lists are updated and shipped with Wise Package Studio. The packages that are created using the Setup Capture tool excludes the changes that are made to the Windows 7 system files and registry keys for both 32-bit and 64-bit computers that occur as a result of background processes or system restarts. General installation and upgrade information Wise Package Studio installation includes the following best practice guidelines: Wise Package Studio should not be installed on the same computer as Notification Server. It should not share the same SQL Server instance either. (Professional Edition only). If you plan to use a hidden share for the destination directory, create the directory and designate it as hidden before you install Wise Package Studio. During the installation, use a UNC path to specify the Wise Package Studio directory. Although this configuration is allowed, Symantec does not recommend it. When you install Wise Package Studio, the Altiris Software Virtualization Agent 2.1 is also installed. If an earlier version of the Altiris Software Virtualization Agent is installed on your computer, it is upgraded.
Wise Package Studio 8.0 MR1 Release Notes System requirements 5 If you install Wise Package Studio on a 64-bit computer, the Altiris Software Virtualization Agent is not installed. Any Wise Package Studio functionality that requires the agent is disabled or does not appear. Previously, when you chose to use SQL Server authentication during the database setup, Wise Repository Manager enabled the SQL Login Mode automatically. Now, you must configure the target database server to support SQL authentication before you set up any Wise Package Studio databases. The Wise Package Studio installations are run from an.exe that installs Wise Package Studio and, in the Professional Edition, the Software Virtualization Agent. During the installation, the Wise Package Studio.MSI file is extracted to \Program Files\Symantec\Setup Files\Wise Package Studio. The Software Virtualization Agent.MSI file is extracted to \Program Files\Symantec\SetupFiles\Software Virtualization Solution. Do not delete these files because they are needed for future repairs. If you install Wise Package Studio on Windows Server 2003 SP1, there is a several minute delay on the UpdatingSystem dialog box. This delay is normal, and the installation completes successfully. To use any of the Web applications (Preflight, Management Reports, Wise Web Capture) you must restart IIS after the installation of Wise Package Studio finishes. (Not available in Standard Edition). Because Wise Package Studio requires the Software Virtualization Agent, when you install the Wise Package Studio client silently, you must include a command line that installs the Software Virtualization Agent. For more information, see the Wise Package Studio 8.0 Getting Started Guide. 9 Wise Package Studio 8.0 MR1 Release Notes Upgrading to 8.0 MR1 from an earlier version of Wise Package Studio 9 Table 1-4 Web application WiseWeb Capture Requirements for Web applications (continued) Requirement Professional Edition. Upgrading to 8.0 MR1 from an earlier version of Wise Package Studio Perform the following tasks to upgrade to 8.0 MR1 from an earlier version of Wise Package Studio: Table 1-5 Task Database backup Database support Preflight database Upgrading to Wise Package Studio 8.0 MR1 Before you install this upgrade, back up the existing share point directory and all existing Wise Package Studio databases (Workbench, Software Manager, Wise Services (Preflight)). Wise Package Studio 7.0 SP3 or later supports only SQL Server and SQL Server Express databases. Microsoft Access and MSDE databases are no longer supported. The upgrade process upgrades existing databases. The Preflight database was renamed Wise Services Database in 6.0, because it also stores data for the Wise Task Manager. It will be used for additional features in future releases. If you used a Preflight database in a version of Wise Package Studio earlier than 6.0, the upgrade process does not change the database name.
10 Wise Package Studio 8.0 MR1 Release Notes Upgrading to 8.0 MR1 from an earlier version of Wise Package Studio Table 1-5 Task Upgrading to Wise Package Studio 8.0 MR1 (continued) Upgrading custom database tables If any existing, pre-6.0 Wise Package Studio databases contain the custom tables that have relational constraints to a standard WisePackage Studio table, do the following: Before you upgrade, remove the constraints from the custom table. Install the upgrade. View the table or tables that your custom tables were attached to see the changes. Make any changes to the custom tables that are required as a result of the upgrade. Re-attach the constraints from your custom tables. Upgrading an unsupported Wise Package Studio configuration Although it was not recommended, previous versions of Wise Package Studio allowed the share point directory and the Wise Package Studio installation to be on different servers. Versions of Wise Package Studio 6.0 and later do not support this configuration because the Wise Task Manager requires the share point directory and the Wise Package Studio installation to be on the same server. If you currently have a different configuration, you cannot move the share point directory. As a workaround, you can do the following: Install Wise Package Studio server on the computer that contains the share point directory. The server installation does not use up a license unless someone uses Wise Package Studio on that computer. On each client computer, access the Repository tab in the Workbench Preferences dialog box and verify that the share point directory on the new Wise Package Studio server is specified.
Wise Package Studio 8.0 MR1 Release Notes Upgrading to 8.0 MR1 from an earlier version of Wise Package Studio 11 Table 1-5 Task Upgrading to Wise Package Studio 8.0 MR1 (continued) Upgrading Pocket PC, Smartphone, and Win CE application Before Wise Package Studio 7.0, you could build a mobile device application in Windows Installer Editor (on the MobileDevices page) or in WiseScript Editor (on the Win CE pages). Compiling an installation in either editor created an.inf file that contained information about the directories, files, settings, and configurations that are used to install the mobile device application. Now, you create mobile device installations in the mobile device Package Editor tool. You then add the resulting mobile device files in Windows Installer Editor or WiseScript Package Editor. To upgrade your mobile device installations, do the following: Before you install the Wise Package Studio upgrade, back up any.inf files that you created by legacy mobile device installations. After you install the upgrade, open the.inf file in mobile device Package Editor and compile to create one or more.cab files. Add the.cab files to a Windows Installer or WiseScript installation.
12 Wise Package Studio 8.0 MR1 Release Notes Upgrading to 8.0 MR1 from an earlier version of Wise Package Studio Table 1-5 Task Upgrading to Wise Package Studio 8.0 MR1 (continued) Assigning new license numbers Wise Package Studio 8.0 MR1 uses the same license keys as Wise Package Studio 8.0. Wise Package Studio 8.0 MR1 cannot be used with license keys for versions of Wise Package Studio prior to 8.0: New licenses can be added to the Workbench database in the User Licensing Setup dialog box (Edit > User Licensing). If you purchased multiple licenses, you might have received a.wlc file that contains the license numbers. You can import the licenses from this file on the Add Serial Numbers dialog box. Assign the new licenses to users as follows: Professional Edition: Let users select a license during the Wise Package Studio logon or assign users on the User Licensing Setup dialog box. Enterprise Management Server: Assign users on the User Licensing Setup dialog box. Note: The users and groups in Security Setup are not changed by the upgrade. Converting an evaluation version to a production version You can convert an evaluation version to a production version without uninstalling the product as follows: Purchase the product and obtain a production serial number. Start Wise Package Studio and click Serial Number on the Evaluation dialog box. Enter the production serial number and click OK. The evaluation version is converted to a production version. The next time you start Wise Package Studio, the Evaluation dialog box no longer appears.
Wise Package Studio 8.0 MR1 Release Notes Known issues 13 Table 1-5 Task Custom reports Upgrading to Wise Package Studio 8.0 MR1 (continued) In a version of Wise Package Studio earlier than 7.0, if you added custom reports to the Reports menu in ConflictManager, Software Manager, or Workbench, these reports no longer appear. Known issues The following are known issues for this release. Table 1-6 Issue Known issues for Wise Package Studio 8.0 MR1 Error occurs during execution of the universal transform from Wise Installer Editor. The installation of WIE is executed successfully but the registries and shortcuts are not added. The registries and the shortcuts that are specified while creating the transform are not added after installing the MSI with MST: Access the link below for the workaround for this issue. Enterprise Support The Add data source is not working on 64-bit computer. After you add a data source, it is not visible on a 64-bit computer. The workaround for this issue is to install the data source on the 64-bit computer and perform the following changes for the Data Source component: Go to the Setup Editor > Component tab, select the Component > Component details dialog box, click Mark 64-bit Component, and change the directory to Windows\System32. Error occurs during login to Wise Web capture. Automatic upgrade from WPS 8.0 to WPS 8.0 MR1 is not supported. Wise Web capture cannot be installed on a 64-bit Windows 2003 server; the checkbox for the Wise Web capture option is disabled during installation. You cannot upgrade to WPS 8.0 MR1 automatically. To upgrade to WPS 8.0 MR1, you need to manually uninstall the previous version of WPS and then install the 8.0 SP1 version.
14 Wise Package Studio 8.0 MR1 Release Notes Known issues Table 1-6 Issue Known issues for Wise Package Studio 8.0 MR1 (continued) Wisescript Check In - use File action does not return results on files in the Windows directory on Windows 7. Not able to create a WVP file if SVS is not installed. If you do not have write permission on a file then the Check In use File action is unable to determine if a file is in use. Now, Access Denied is returned as the value for the Check In use File action. Currently, the values "In-use", "Not-in-use" and "Non-existent" are present as the return values of this script action. Cannot create a WVP file using Setup Capture, if SVS is not installed on the computer. Software Manager throws an error message during import of the package. In Software Manager an error is displayed on importing a package: Work around for this issue is to restart the Software Manager and Workbench. Unable to upgrade SQL 2005 to Service Pack 4. Wise Package Studio does not support upgrade from base SQL 2005 (Enterprise Management Server) to SP4 on a computer that contains Wise Package Studio 6.x or later. If you want to upgrade your SQL 2005 installation to SP4, do one of the following: Upgrade to SQL SP4 before you install Wise Package Studio 6.x or later. If Wise Package Studio 6.x is already on the computer that you need to upgrade, go to Control Panel > Administrative Tools > Services, stop WiseSvc, install the SQL SP4 upgrade, and then return to the Control Panel and restart WiseSvc.
