2 The Keynote address entitled Theme, Principle and Status of the NGCM programme of GSI was delivered by Sh. D. J. Dasgupta, Director (Retd.). He deliberated in detail on the basic concepts in map elements, map scale and projections, sampling media scope and objective of the NGCM programme and threw light on its strengths and weaknesses. During the post lunch session Sh. R. S. Garkhal, Director, FTC, Zawar, deliberated in detail on the sample number scheme, sample numbering pattern, implement/equipments, sample collection, sample processing, field notes, radiometric surveys etc. to be followed in the NGCM programme. Both of these presentations were saw lively discussions on sampling scheme to be adopted. On 3 rd, Sh. Auditeya Bhattachrya, Director, deliberated in details about the NGCM data handling. This session was again attended by nearly forty three officers engaged in NGCM activities in GSI, WR. Sh. Bhattacharya studied in detail the Field Data Sheets submitted by the officers carrying out NGCM in Rajasthan and Gujarat. He was pleased to announce that the data sheets have been filled in the correct manner without any errors and congratulated the officers and their supervisors for this achievement. During the post lunch session the officers of WR gave presentations on various subjects related to geochemical mapping. Sh. P. N. Sharma, Director, Geochemical Division deliberated on the Techniques of Interpretation of NGCM data and suggested modifications. This was followed by five deliberations by different officers. On 5 th Sh. Sanjay Singh, Sr. Geologist introduced the trainees to modern concepts in statistics and its limitations, Exploratory Data Analysis (EDA), geographically linked compositional data and correlation. During the post lunch session the six different officers of WR gave presentations on various subjects related to geochemical mapping. On 6 th, Sh. Pawan Kumar, Geologist gave demonstration on the use of EXCEL and SURFER software and the trainees were given hands on practice on these softwares for univariant statistics and for producing contour maps respectively. Sh. Sanjay Singh, Sr. Geologist along with Sh. Pawan Kumar supervised the hand on practice sessions on 6 th afternoon and 7 th forenoon. In the afternoon of 7 th August 2013, Dr. N. R. Ramesh, Dy. D.G., GSITI and Head M-V, was the Chief Guest and chaired the valedictory session. Sh. P. Srivastava, Dy. D.G., SU: Rajasthan; Sh. R. G Verma, Dy. D.G. and RHM I, WR; Sh. Ashok Mathur, Dy.
