1 Acharya Dr. Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan Road, Bangalore IEEE AIT Student Branch Inauguration Function IEEE Student Branch of Acharya Institute of Technology was inaugurated on 29 th April IEEE AIT Student Branch was inaugurated by the chief guest Dr. T. Srinivas, Ph. D., Associate Professor, Department of ECE, Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore and also the EXECOM member of IEEE region 10, in the presence of Dr. H. D. Maheshappa, principal, AIT. Dr. Preetha Sharan, Professor, Department of ECE, Oxford College of Engineering, Bangalore and also the IEEE Student activity for region 10 was the guest of honour for the inaugural function. Dr. Navin Kumar from CMRIT, Bangalore delivered the guest lecture. The function began with the AIT invocation Song followed by a welcome speech by Mrs. Rajeswari, HOD, Deapartment of ECE, AIT. She welcomed The Principal, AIT; Chief guest, guest of honour, invited speaker, Dr. Bramham, quicai HOD s of various other, Department, AIT, the faculty members and the students to the occasion. Her speech showed her tremendous support and her keen interest in starting IEEE Student Branch at AIT.

Srinivas and other special invitees for the inaugural function lighted the lamp as a mark of new beginning and Dr. Srinivas released the banner that had the IEEE and AIT logo and officially declared the IEEE Student branch opening. In his inaugural address. Dr. Srinivas took pride in being associated with IEEE ever since he was a student and extended his support to IEEE Student Branch that was being brought into the campus of AIT with the promise of taking AIT to become as one of the leading institute in engineering and technology. He encouraged the chapter to conduct activities, workshops and contests that would reach out to the students and bring out the best in them. After the inaugural address Dr. Preeta Sharan was called upon to the dias to do the honours. She was extremely happy to have been called upon to the inauguration of the IEEE Student Branch at AIT. She about the significance and achievements of the IEEE in various engineering fields and its relevance to the student community in the modern times. She presented a short power point presentation about the history of the IEEE, different funding schemes available for the Students projects and also for conducting IEEE related event in future. She encouraged the female members to start IEEE Women s in Engineering (WIE) branch at AIT. Finally, she wished IEEE Student Branch at AIT, the very best in all its endeavors.

He promised his full support to IEEE Student Branch. He then went on to talk about need and how IEEE is changing the face of research and technology worldwide and how we can benefit from being a part of this group of technology leaders. His inspirational and thoughtful words were greeted by loud applauses from the assembled crowd. Memento s was presented to all the special invitees by the principal as a token of respect and gratitude by the whole student and faculty community of AIT. The inaugural session concluded with a vote of thanks by Prem Kumar, III year student, Department of ECE, AIT. Next, the gathering took a short tea-break. It was followed by the technical session. Dr. Navin Kumar, delivered the guest lecture in the topic of The Evolution of Cellular/Mobile Systems and Networks: 4G and Beyond. He started with introduction to mobile Systems. Then he examined the necessity of wireless mobile communication in modern day. He briefed about various generations of wireless communication systems available now and their pros and cons. He explained the different aspects of 4G system. He then talked on the challenges that still exist in 4G systems and offered solutions to some of them. The whole audience was impressed with the talk by Dr. Navin Kumar.

4 A 2-Day Workshop on Product Design & Innovation 21 st & 22 nd February 2014 A 2-Day Workshop on Product Design & Innovation was held at Acharya Institute of Technology (AIT) on 21 st & 22 nd February The workshop was conducted by Electronics and Communication Engineering Department, AIT in association with IEEE students Branch, AIT. The workshop s inaugural ceremony was held on 21 st February 2014 at MBA Seminar Hall, AIT. The objective of this workshop is to provide a platform for the students to upgrade their knowledge and skills in the area of product design. Thought provoking technical sessions was presented by eminent resource persons from IISc, CDAC, NID, Tektronics, I2R Designs and Wizardry Designs. The technical sessions made the students to get an insight of the product design cycle, that will enable them to convert their projects to products. Question & Answer session followed the talks allowing the attendees a chance to inquire and gain additional information about career opportunities available in the field of product design. The entire workshop was designed to gain and updated their knowledge in the following topics. 1. New Paradigm - Design and Innovation 2. Embedded Mindset to Flexible Thinking 3. Product Design an overview 4. Product Expression and Emotional design 5. Digital Design/Interactive design methods 6. Prototyping Digital design 7. Concepts Prototyping and Evaluation 8. Product development as a part of corporate strategy Agile concepts 9. Product Design - Creating a Competitive strength 10. Design for the Real world Case studies 11. Product design Case studies Distributed Sensor Networks 12. Product design Case studies Industrial Automation The workshop was inaugurated by the chief guest Prof. P. Achutha Rao, Former Centre head, NID R&D Campus, Bangalore, in the presence of Dr. H. D. Maheshappa, principal, AIT. Prof. Achutha Rao delivered the keynote lecture.. Maheshappa. He congratulated the faculties and the staff members of ECE department and IEEE student branch for their initiative in conducting the product design workshop. His inspirational and thoughtful words were greeted by loud applauses from the assembled crowd. Next, the keynote address was delivered by Prof. Achutha Rao in the topic of New Paradigm - Design and Innovation. The whole audience was impressed with the talk and gathering took a short tea-break. It was followed by the technical session II and continued with the other Technical session for the day. The complete program Schedule for the entire two days containing the name of the speaker and their respective topics is attached separately along with this report. Over 120 students attended the workshop with great zeal. The workshop was conducted and coordinated by Prof. S. Sevugarajan and Prof. H. S. Arvind. Asst. Prof. Bhargav and Asst. Prof. Siddesh organized the workshop. At the end of the workshop Prof. Bhargav delivered the vote of thanks. He thanked all the faculty members and other supporting staff for their help rendered in conducting the workshop. In a nutshell, the workshop was a huge success with large number of participants and hard work of Dept. of ECE, AIT IEEE, Students branch, AIT team paid off.
