1 Introduction Kaiser Baas Wi-Fi Network Media Player User Manual Congratulations on the purchase of your Kaiser Baas Wi-Fi Network Media Player. This user guide will explain how you connect the Media Player to your TV and stereo system, how to connect to your wired or wireless network and the various other options available for playing your music collection and displaying your photo files as a slideshow. Features The Kaiser Baas Wi-Fi Network Media Player is a compact standalone media player that can play video, music and photo files from removable storage devices such as portable hard drives and USB memory sticks. You can also stream your various media files from your PC or media server over a wired or wireless network with the included wireless network USB adaptor. Play back your DVD movies with full menu navigation in either.ifo or.iso format. Create a virtual DVD library on your portable hard drive, PC or media server for instant access to your DVD collection. Using the latest multimedia processor, the Kaiser Baas Wireless Media Player supports the latest video formats such as MKV, H.264, AVCHD, VC-1, WMVHD, as well as MPEG-4, MPEG-2 and WMV. Both high definition and standard definition formats are supported (see page X for full playback specifications). The Kaiser Baas Network Media Player provides a HDMI connection for the best quality output possible and an optical output for crystal clear surround sound. Safety Notice Do not try and disassemble or remodel the Kaiser Baas Wireless Network Media Player. Doing so may cause the unit to malfunction and may void the warranty. Place all magnetised devices such as speakers away from the Kaiser Baas Wireless Network Media Player as it may erase or cause damage to data stored on your portable hard drive. Do not place the Kaiser Baas Wireless Network Media Player in places that are exposed to oil, water or dust. Keep your Kaiser Baas Wireless Network Media Player away from heated sources such as sunlight and heaters. Place it in a well ventilated located and ensure that you have enough airflow. Do not touch the power plug with wet hands or use defective power cables as it may cause electric shocks or fire. Do not drop the Kaiser Baas Wireless Network Media Player as it may cause serious damage and may void the warranty.

4 Connections (rear of unit) 1. Power This is where the power adaptor is connected to 2. Composite and Components outputs Connects to the analogue inputs of your TV 3. SPDIF output Connects to your amplifier for digital audio output 4. HDMI output Connects to the HDMI input of your TV 5. Network port For connection to a home network (LAN) 6. USB ports Supports connection of removable storage devices and the provided Wi-Fi USB dongle Remote Control 1. Home Select this to go back to the home screen

Info Select this when playing a media file, it will display the technical information such as video codec, resolution & time duration on video files and the resolution, ISO, camera model and time and date on photo files 3. Power Turns unit on and off 4. Number 0-9 Use these keys to type in your network IP address, you can also use these keys to navigate between the various chapters available when playing a DVD or Blu-ray 5. Audio When playing a DVD or Blu-ray this key allows you to select the different audio tracks that may be available 6. Subtitle This key allows you to enable subtitles when watching a DVD or Blu-ray 7. Setup This key allows you to enter setup to alter the various options available These are the directional keys which allow you to navigate the media player 13. Output This key will scroll through the various output resolutions available 14. Mute This key will mute the audio 15. Back This key will go back to the previous menu that you are currently on 16. A-B This key allows you to select a start and end point to replay when playing a video file 17. Repeat This key allows you to repeat playing one or all video tracks and for audio allows you to repeat one track, all tracks and shuffle Increase or decrease volume 20. Pause Pause a video, music or slideshow 21. Play Play your various media files 22. Stop Stop playing a file 23. Previous This key allows to play a previous video or picture file or the previous chapter when playing a DVD or Blu-ray 24. Next This key allows you to play the next video or picture file or the next chapter when playing a DVD or Blu-ray 25. Rewind This key allows you to rewind a video or audio file 26. Forward This key allows you to forward a video or audio file 27. Photo This key will display photo files on your selected source drive or folder
6 27. Video This key will display video files on your selected source drive or folder 28. Music This key will display audio files on your selected source drive or folder 29. File Copy This key will go to the File Copy mode 30. DVD Menu This key allows you to select the DVD menu when watching a DVD 31. Zoom This key allows you to zoom into a video or picture file 32. Angle This key allows you to change angles on supported DVDs 33. Slide Show This key allows you to play a slideshow when browsing your picture files 34. Quick Back This key allows you to jump back in 10% increments when watching a video file 35. Quick Forward This key allows you to jump forward in 10% increments when watching a video file 36. PG DN This key allows you to scroll through the pages when browsing your selected source drive or folder 37. PG UP - This key allows you to scroll through the pages when browsing your selected source drive or folder Connection to your TV and A/V system There are several ways that you can connect the Kaiser Baas Wi-Fi Media Player to your TV and A/V system. If your TV has HDMI input, this is the best connection to use for full 1080P support. (Please note you will need to purchase a separate HDMI cable). If you have an older TV system that has component input, then use this connection (Please note that you will need to purchase a separate component cable). For older TVs that only have composite input, we have provided an A/V composite cable inside the box. The Kaiser Baas Wi-Fi Media Player has an optical audio output if you want utilise a pass thru of Dolby Digital and DTS sound tracks to your surround sound system or if you want to play audio through your stereo system. (Please note that you will need to purchase a separate optical cable).
7 Connection of Wi-Fi USB dongle Connect the provided Wi-Fi USB dongle to one of the USB host ports located at the rear of the media player. The setup of the Wi-Fi USB dongle will be covered on page (to be determined) Setup Wizard When the Kaiser Baas Wi-Fpresented with the following setup screen Network Media Player is first turned on you will be Select the relevant menu language then press Enter. Set the time and date by selecting Manual
8 Use the directional buttons to adjust the time and date. Press Enter to continue and select Confirm to confirm. Next you will be asked to setup your wired network connection. Select Cancel as we ll setup this feature later You will now see the main screen Select Setup to make adjustments for your TV screen, A/V setup and network connections. You will now see the following screen
9 AUDIO Night Mode When this option is turned on, the audio output volume will be decreased Digital Output Choose between HDMI LPCM, HDMI LPCM MULT, HDMI RAW, SPDIF LPCM, SPDIF RAW *In RAW mode, Dolby Digital, DTS or MPEG audio tracks can be bypassed to the TV or stereo amplifier to process *Please note that this option does not affect analogue audio output
10 VIDEO Aspect Radio Choose between Pan Scan 4:3, Letter Box 4:3, 16:9 and 16:10. Brightness Adjust the brightness level. Contrast Adjust the contrast level. Hue Adjust the hue level. Saturation Adjust the saturation level. Noise Reduction Enable noise reduction. Video System Adjust the video output resolution for your TV system. 1080P 24Hz Enable this for smoother playback of Blu-ray video on TV systems that support 24Hz playback
11 NETWORK Wired LAN Setup Select this option if you are going to connect the Kaiser Baas Wi-Fi Media Player to your wired network. You will have the option of selecting DHCP IP which your router will automatically assign an IP number to the Media Player - Or a Fixed IP so you can assign a manual IP number using the number keys on the remote control
12 *Please note that you are not required to connect the Wi-Fi USB dongle to the Media Player if you are connected to a wired network. Wireless Setup Select this option to setup the provided Wi-Fi USB dongle. Press the Enter button to select a profile selection Select Connection1 and press Enter.
13 Select Infrastructure (AP) and press Enter. The Wi-Fi USB dongle will scan for wireless access points within your vicinity and then display them on screen Select your wireless access point and press Enter. You will be prompted for your security key
14 Once you have input your security key the connection will be tested and the network information will be displayed Your wireless router will assign an IP address, Subnet Mask and Default Gateway to the Media Player and this information will be displayed. Press Enter to continue.
15 SYSTEM Menu Language Select to choose a different on-screen language Text Encoding Select to set a different encoding option for displaying subtitles BT and Samba This enables the Bit Torrent and Samba networking. Enable this to use the Bit Torrent downloading option and to enable Samba so you can use the NAS function for your portable hard drive System Info This displays the current version of the firmware System Update Select this option to update when new firmware files become available Time Select this option to change the time and date R/RW Auto-Play This option allows you to enable auto-play if you have an external USB DVD-Rom attached Angle Mark This option allows you to enable or disable the angle feature when playing a DVD Restore Default Select this option to restore the default values
16 MISC Resume Play Select this bookmarking feature Slide Show Timing Select to set the interval time for your photoo slide shows Transition Effect Select to set the transition effect for your photo slide shows Ken Burns Select to apply pan & scan effects for your photo slide shows Background Music Select this if you would like to enable music playback when playing a photo slide show Screen Saver Enable or disable the screen saver Movie Preview Select to video files MOVIE, MUSIC & PHOTOO PLAYBACK option if you would like to enable the auto enable or disable movie preview when browsing your The browser menu allows you to play media files that are stored on your portable USB hard drive, USB memory stick or home network. To enter use the navigation buttons to select Movie, Music or Photo and then press the Enter button
17 You will have a number of sources to choose from USB Portable hard drives or memory sticks DVD-Rom - providing you port NET Computers or media servers attached to your network UPNP Devices that support the UPNP protocol have an external USB DVD-Rom connected to a USB When you have selected your source, for example, a portable hard drive, it will display the files and folders that are located on the drive Using the navigation keys, you can select the file that you want to play. If you have Movie Preview turned on, a preview of the video file selected will start to play
18 Using the left and right navigational buttons you can filter the type of files that you want to appear for video, music and photo files or you can press the corresponding buttons on the remote control. When you select to play a DVD or Blu-ray, the media player will prompt you to play or browse the folder. Playing the folder will start the DVD or Blu-ray just like a DVD or Blu-ray player *Please note that menus are not available when playing a Blu-ray For music playback, the ID3 tag data will be displayed in the preview screen
19 While playing music, you can press the Photo button on the remote control, navigate to your photo files and then press the Play button to start playing a slide show Alternatively if you have music files in the same folder as your photo files, the music files will play automatically when playing a slideshow. When browsing files over the network, the Media Player will request that you save the location as a shortcut
20 Select OK & Save to MyShortcuts. This will save the location in My Shortcuts for faster location of your network drives To stream from your PC you will need to make sure that you have enabled data sharing on your hard drives. To enable sharing in Windows XP go to My Computer, right click the drive that you would like to share, click Properties then click the Sharing tab
21 Enable Share this folder on the network and Allow network users to change my files. To enable sharing in Vista and Windows 7, it is recommended to create a new user account which you can use for media streaming purposes. Go to Control Panel then click on User Accounts and Family Safety Click Add or remove user accounts then click Create a new account
22 Select a user name, select Administrator then click Create Account. Select the account that you have just created then click Create a password - Type in a password, confirm the pass then click Create password. Now you need to enable sharing on the hard drive that you would like to stream your media files from. Go to Computer, right click the drive that you would like to share, click Properties then click the Sharing tab
23 Click the Advanced Sharing button Enable Share this folder then click Permissions
24 Click the Add button to include the new user account that has been created Type in the username and click Check Names Windows will then verify that you have entered the correct user name. Click OK to continue.
25 You will need to enable Full Control and Change Click Apply and OK to exit. When you select to play your media files, the media player will request the user name and password of the new account that you created Once you have done this click OK & Save to MyShortcuts and a short cut will created in the My Shortcuts folder. The Kaiser Baas Wi-Fi Media Player is compatible with UPNP compatible software such as Windows Media Player 11 & 12, XBMC Media Centre and Media Tomb as well as DLNA certified media servers. We ll have a list of software and hardware that we have tested on our support website.
26 *Please note that network streaming performance is dependent on the type of network hardware installed and the amount of network traffic used. FILE COPY The Kaiser Baas Wi-Fi Media Player has the ability to copy and delete files to and from USB devices and over the network. To access File Copy select File Copy at the home screen or press the File Copy button if you are in the browse menu The following buttons are used UP / DOWN Move the cursor to select the source and destination LEFT / RIGHT Go to the next screen or previous screen PLAY Select a file or files to copy or delete Once you have selected your source files you can select to copy or move them
27 VIRTUAL DVD & BLU-RAY The Kaiser Baas Wi-Fi Media Player can play a virtual DVD or Blu-ray image that you have copied to your PC or portable USB hard drive. You can play virtual DVDs as if playing the DVD on a DVD player. All DVD menus and content are fully intact. This is a great way of preventing damage to your original discs or to watch a TV series without the need of swapping multiple discs. Blu-ray disc images can also be played (menus are not supported). To create a virtual DVD or Blu-ray image you will need to download what they call a ripping tool from the internet. We recommend using a program called DVD Fab. A free evaluation version can be downloaded from This program will create a virtual DVD or Blu-ray image (requires a Blu-ray drive on your PC) of the original disc onto your hard drive. FIRMWARE UPGRADE The Kaiser Baas Wi-Fi Media Player has the ability to update the firmware which will add new features when they become available and bug fixes if they arise. 1. Copy the firmware file to the root drive of a USB memory stick 2. Plug the USB memory stick into a spare USB host port 3. Select Setup at the home screen 4. Go to System and select System Upgrade 5. The Media Player will reset and the latest firmware will be uploaded 6. When the firmware has finished uploading the Media Player will reset and the home screen will then appear on-screen BIT TORRENT & NAS FUNCTION The Kaiser Baas Wi-Fi Media Player has the ability to down Bit Torrent files directly to your portable USB hard drive without having your PC turned on to complete the download. The will conserve energy by not having your PC turned on during the day while the Bit Torrent is downloading to your portable USB hard drive. To access this feature, open your internet browser and type in the IP address of the Media Player, for example You will now see the following screen
28 If you have a portable USB hard drive attached to the Media Player, it will be detected and the amount of free space available will be displayed. Click the Bit Torrent Download tab to commence the download Once you have downloaded the Bit Torrent seed to your PC, click the Add new torrent button
29 Press the Browse button, select the Bit Torrent seed file and click Open. Click the Yes button to confirm the download The Bit Torrent seed that you want to download will be displayed. Multiple seed files can be loaded and the download priority can also be set. The Media Player will continue to download the Bit Torrent files until they are finished. The PC is not required for this task. When the files have completed downloading, they will be located in the BT folder. You can move them to different folders if you require. The Kaiser Baas Wi-Fi Media Player can also convert your portable USB hard drive into a network attached device (NAS), which can be accessed from any PC on the network. To access the hard drive go to the networking section in Windows and click on View network computers and devices. The Media Player will be displayed as VENUS
30 Double clicking the VENUS network icon will display the hard drive that is attached to the Media Player. You can copy, move and delete files just like any drive on your PC or network. TROUBLESHOOTING Q. I am getting vision but no audio. A. The audio cable may not be inserted correctly or you have not selected the correct audio settings during setup. If you are connecting via HDMI or using the optical audio output, you need to select the correct settings in setup. Q. My files have disappeared in the browser menu. A. Make sure that you are browsing your media files in the correct browsing window which means correct filtered views such as Movie, Music and Photo. Q. When I select different video output resolutions, the display is unwatchable or not displayed. A. Please check to see if your TV display supports the resolution that you have selected. If you have selected a resolution that your TV display does not support, it will display a screen that is unwatchable or not display at all. Pressing the Output button on the remote control will cycle through the various resolutions that are available. Q. When I scan for available wireless networks I get a Can t display any SSID message.
31 A. When the USB wireless dongle is attached to the Media Player it will take a moment to initialise. Refreshing the SSID list will then display your wireless router. Q. I cannot see files that are shared on my PC attached to my network. A. Make sure that the Media Player is connected and communicating with your network. Check that your firewall is not blocking access to your PC. Make sure that you have created a new user account as described in the user manual. Check that your drives are shared and that you have enabled full access. Q. I have a wireless 11n router but the access to my network is very slow. A. If you are using the WEP encryption, this will slow the network access to 54Mbps. Using the more recent WPA encryption will increase the network speed up to 300Mbps. Q. Which hard drive file systems are supported? A. The Kaiser Baas Wi-Fi Media Player supports FAT, FAT32, NTFS and EXT3 file systems Q. Can I play a file while downloading a Bit Torrent file? A. Yes you can Q. Can I use the wireless USB dongle on my PC? A. Yes, you can use the wireless USB dongle as a wireless network connection on your PC.
