1 BAS: Medical Laboratory Scientist AY AY2016 Program Assessment Plan Person completing Assessment Plan: Heidi Schneiter M. Ed., MT (ASCP), Program Director Program Mission Statement: The mission of the Medical Laboratory Scientist Program is to provide learning experiences that allow students to acquire theory and skills necessary to perform and interpret complex medical laboratory procedures, and to operate successfully as a laboratory professional. Current Program Outcomes Graduates of this will be able to: 1. Demonstrate comprehension of concepts and techniques in all major clinical laboratory disciplines. 2. Demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to perform and interpret complex laboratory 3. Perform and interpret associated quality assurance 4. Develop skills in leadership, resource management, research and teaching. 5. Demonstrate entry-level competencies necessary to secure employment as a medical laboratory scientist. Proposed Changes to Program Outcomes Graduates of this will be able to: 1. Assess and correlate clinical and/or laboratory data through the application of theory and principles. 2. Select appropriate of action in accordance with established laboratory 3. Evaluate and perform full range of clinical laboratory procedures, including quality assurance and quality control 4. Differentiate and resolve technical, instrument, and/or physiologic causes of unexpected or abnormal data. Direct Measure of Learning Clinical Practicum rotations and a culminating project in CLS 497 will be used to assess outcomes. A rubric based on student learning outcomes will be used to rate student success. Data will be reported in the annual report. The rubric includes average ratings, by discipline (i.e., Clinical Chemistry, Immunology, Immunohematology, Clinical Microbiology, and Hematology), and an average rating per outcome. The rating system is 0-3 with 3=Exceeds Standard; 2 = Above Standard; 1 = Meets Standard; 0 = Does not meet standard as determined by the direct measures of learning. Data will be used in the annual report. Indirect Measure of Learning Indirect measures of learning will be tracked by the as required by the National Accrediting Agency for Clinical Laboratory Sciences. The indirect measures of learning will include, but may not be limited to, graduation rates; performance on national certification examinations and job placement. Data will be reported in the annual report.
