1 Articulation Agreement Bachelor of Arts and Bachelor of Science in Biology The University of Texas at Dallas School of Natural Sciences and Mathematics and Richland College School of Mathematics, Science and Health Professions

2 UT Dallas/Richland College Articulation Agreement for Biology Whereas, The University of Texas at Dallas (UT Dallas) and Richland College of the Dallas County Community College District have a long history of cooperation and mutual interest in serving the citizens of Dallas County; Whereas, Dallas County and the State of Texas are experiencing a shortage of college graduates in Biology related disciplines, as stated in the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board s Closing the Gaps Initiative; Whereas, Richland College is accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools (SACS) and desires to ensure that its curriculum meets or exceeds the quality and standards established by the UT Dallas School of Natural Sciences and Mathematics; now, therefore, be it resolved: The University of Texas at Dallas School of Natural Sciences and Mathematics and the Richland College School of Mathematics, Science and Health Professions have agreed to enhance the transfer process for Richland students pursuing an Associate of Science degree emphasizing Biology on the following terms and conditions: 1. The School of Natural Sciences and Mathematics (NSM) at UT Dallas will support Richland College in its desire to maintain lower division Biology courses comparable to those taken by UT Dallas students during their freshman and sophomore years. This will include sharing course syllabi, related program educational objectives and outcomes assessment material. 2. Richland College will maintain laboratories/equipment to ensure that Biology lab courses are generally comparable in subject matter and objectives to those taken by students at UT Dallas. The intention to make substantive changes in laboratory instruction at either institution will be communicated to the other in a timely manner. 3. UT Dallas will continue its commitment to the terms and conditions of the October 24, 2006 general Institutional Articulation Agreement with Dallas County Community College District campuses, including Richland College. 4. Both institutions understand that this new articulation agreement is specific to the School of Natural Sciences and Mathematics at UT Dallas and students pursuing the Associate of Science degree emphasizing Biology at Richland College. It contains the following specific provisions, which will be updated as needed through the transfer guides: a. Students seeking the B.A. or B.S. in Biology at The University of Texas at Dallas must earn at least 51 upper division hours to graduate.

3 b. Students who successfully complete Richland College s Associate of Science degree emphasizing Biology, including completion of eight semester hours of General Biology for Science majors and eight additional credit hours of more advanced Biology, with a GPA of at least 2.5 and no grade below a C in Biology courses will be able to transfer 63 credit hours as a block to UT Dallas. These courses will satisfy UT Dallas core curriculum requirements as well as the identified undergraduate courses in the B.A. and B.S. in Biology degree plan matrices. c. The two institutions will work together to provide transfer guides for Richland students and advisors utilizing the Texas Common Course Numbering System to identify the courses to be completed at Richland College. Courses in the Biology major at UT Dallas, along with their UT Dallas course numbers, will also be identified on the transfer guide. d. Richland College faculty, staff and advisors will ensure that students in the Associate of Science emphasizing Biology, and all students declaring an intent to earn the B.A. or B.S. in Biology from UT Dallas, are advised regarding which courses taken at Richland College will transfer for degree program credit in UT Dallas s B.A. and B.S. degrees in Biology and courses that will not count toward the major. 5. Richland College students who meet The University of Texas at Dallas student transfer admissions requirements and complete the degree of Associate of Science emphasizing Biology will receive automatic admission to The University of Texas at Dallas. a. Richland College and UT Dallas must agree on the design of any marketing materials publicizing this agreement and to be distributed to current or potential students or the community at large. b. The reverse transfer program allows Richland College students, who transfer to UT Dallas prior to the completion of their associate degrees, to transfer UT Dallas credit hours to Richland College for the completion of the associate degree. The faculty and administrators from both institutions will be responsible for informing transferring/transferred students about the Richland College/UT Dallas reverse transfer program. c. The faculty and administrators from both institutions will meet annually to assess and develop program offerings, schedule student/faculty class and lab visits and to discuss the potential opportunities for faculty/facilities sharing. The faculty and administrators will also explore potential joint grant funding. This agreement shall become effective April 2, 2012 and shall remain in effect until terminated by either party. Termination can be by either The University of Texas at Dallas or Richland College by giving written notice to the other institution two years prior to the requested date of termination.
