4 Automotive Industry in Colombia Characterization of Auto parts industry Manufacturing of only some parts of the Vehicles Producing and exporting parts of low integration and low complexity (e.g. tires and breaks) Being a net importer of high-tech and advanced integration systems. There are no companies in the segment of electronics applied to automotives There is no manufacturing of products with higher added value and integration belonging to level number one of auto parts suppliers (eg. Engines, Transmissions, fuel systems, audio and entertainment systems) Replacement market: subsegments of breaks, wheels and rims, glass, electrical systems (electrical batteries) have a large replacement market due to the high level of wearing of these parts during normal operation of vehicles.

Reliability assessment lab) Set up the standard procedure for tests. 23 OBJECTIVE OF PROJECT v Objective of Cooperation project - KATECH cooperate to establish TECNNA as R&D Institution for the Auto parts in Colombia to support domestic technology development and reliability of products - Requirement to establish R&D institute 1 Infra structure - Building & Equipment [large scale of government support requires] 2 Human resources - Well trained engineers and technician to perform testing & R&D 3 Business model - To sustain and expand institute to larger scale, it needs to have good business model such as homologation service for auto part in Colombia - KATECH & TECNNA will try to train human resources in Colombia through R&D project Establishing TECNNA As R&D Institution For Auto Parts Training Program Universities Auto Industries TECNNA Supporting R&D for local Cluster Ø It is necessary to train engineers and technician in parallel of establishing R&D center Ø To transfer and train technology faster, it is best way to learn by participating practical R&D project with KATECH(No more master plan)

26 CONCEPT OF R&D PROJECT v Below Figure explain typical design process for automotive parts development - RLDA Data will provide actual load from driving on a certain country. - These data could be used in testing process & CAE simulation for improving parts design before making prototype of product. RLDA data is very good resource for supporting auto SME to develop parts in design - However, in this project, KATECH would like to focus on CAE training & development of real product with Colombia,. 27 DETAILS OF CAE [COMPUTER AIDED ENGINEERING] ANALYSIS v What is CAE & How can it help in design? - Most of SME in Colombia auto industry need to improve their auto part design. (Reliability of parts, Failure analysis and improving design). - Actual part test is very expensive, but CAE with RLDA data could improve design with less cost. That is why most of vehicle manufacturer use CAE tools widely for improving part design in vehicle. - Since KATECH has RLDA data for Europe, China, Korea, it is very realistic to apply to test and simulate Colombia auto part or vehicle in the real road condition at this first stage of R&D cooperation. If TECNNA engineers can support Colombia s SME to design their parts with CAE for improving quality, it will be a big help for SMEs in Colombia as a first step. C B A Actual Lower control Arm

28 DETAILS OF 2 nd stage of PROJECT (RLDA Project) v What is RLDA (Road Load Data Acquisition]? - Every city & country has different types of road condition and environment such as many up & downhill, unpaved road surface, etc - WFT(Wheel Force Transducer) will be installed in the wheels of vehicle and collect the load from road surface while driving. - It is very fundamental database to test durability of parts and improve design, especially in chassis components to be durable during the service period (300,000Km) - Those data also could be used in CAE to optimize the design of auto parts after post processing procedure Once we set up the equipment in vehicle, We need a garage space for storing a vehicle and instruments (Maybe University in Bogota?) Wheel Force Transducer [WFT]

29 DETAILS OF PROJECT (RLDA Project) v What is RLDA (Road Load Data Acquisition] system configuration? RLDA system configuration KATECH will bring this equipment to Colombia for the RLDA test for 3 months

30 OVERALL PROCESS OF project RLDA Test Laboratory Test CAE Analysis Multi Body Dynamic ADAMS NASTRAN 2 nd stage of R&D cooperation - This part will be done in Colombia for 3 months - (3 KATECH researchers will be dispatched to Bogota) - 2 Colombia engineers from TECNNA or University can participate and learn the testing Know-How 1 st stage of R&D cooperation - These parts will be done at KATECH in Korea - (3 TECNNA engineers can be dispatched to KATECH) - 3 Colombia engineers from TECNNA can participate and learn the Know-How through hand-on experience in testing or CAE area in KATECH, Korea

32 REQUIREMENT FOR 1 st stage of PROJECT v PROJECT TITLE : DEVELOPING THE STANDARD OF DRIVING LOAD IN COLOMBIA PRE-REQUIREMENT 1 HUMAN RESOURCE : NEED TOTAL 5 ENGINEERS FROM COLOMBIA - 2 for RLDA testing engineers - 2 for CAE analysis engineers Ø Qualification of engineer in this project : 1. Graduated 4years college in mechanical engineering degree. 2. Major in Dynamics or Machine design or FEM Structural Analysis with CAE 3. At least over 2 years of automotive engineering related job experience or studying Master degree or Ph.D in Mechanical engineering at University - 1 for Homologation researcher Ø Qualification of researcher : 1. Graduated 4years college in engineering degree. 2. Experience on Colombia standard and homologation procedure 3. Someone know automotive certification scheme for Inmetro(Brazil) or other international certification procedure such as E-mark or SAE

33 REQUIREMENT FOR PROJECT [Colombia Side] 2 Monthly Salary for Colombia engineers - KATECH will train engineers, and pay for travel cost, training cost, but doesn t have enough fund to pay their salary. - Need Colombia government funding to support their salary if they need. - When those come to KATECH, KATECH may offer a dormitory or living place for the dispatched Colombia engineers.

34 REQUIREMENT FOR 2 nd stage of PROJECT v Equipment Storing Space (For 2 nd stage of R&D coopeation) - location : In Bogota Colombia (University?), good security require. - Size of space : Mid size Vehicle with equipment and workspace 1 small office to work for 3 KATECH engineer, and they can work with Colombia engineers.
