The project examines the impact of two key childhood obesity prevention policies in Texas: the Safe Routes to School (SRTS) program and an important rule revision to the federal food allocation package administered by the Texas WIC program (PIs: Deanna Hoelscher, University of Texas School of Public Health, Austin Regional Campus and Marcia Ory, Texas A&M Health Science Center School of Rural Public Health). The goal of SWAAP was to test a culturally tailored childhood obesity intervention targeting rural minority parents of schoolage children. Prepared manuscripts for peer-reviewed journal articles using data from the project, including those initiated by team members as well as myself.
