1 How to Create a VCD SlideShow CD 1. First to launch Nero StartSmart: Go to Start->All Programs->Burn a CD or Data DVD->Nero StartSmart. Or you can just go to Start->Nero StartSmart

2 2. This will bring up the Nero StartSmart main window. Select the Photo and Video icon and click on the Make Video CD option. 3. This brings up the Nero Express My Video CD (VCD) window. To add Images such as JPEG, TIF, BMP, etc to be written to CD, click on the Add button or drag and drop the pictures into the window.

3 4. This will bring up the Select Files and Folders window. Here you must select the video file or files you wish to add to this burn operation. Highlight the file(s) you wish to add, and then click on Add. (Note: You can select more than one file at a time by clicking on one file, hold down the SHIFT key and then click on the last file you wish to add, as seen below.) 5. Click on the Finished button once you have added all the pictures you intend to burn to CD.

4 6. This will bring you back to the My Video CD (VCD) window. You can see how much space you will use with this write operation. Click on Next to move on to the next step. (Note: You have more advanced feature options in this window too, as defined below.) 1) Remove This button allows you to remove the selected picture. 2) Play This button allows you to view the selected picture. 3) Properties This button will allow you to edit the picture using special filters such as Emboss, Sharpen, Soften, etc; rename the picture; or set how many seconds to view the picture before moving on to the next picture. (Note: Default setting is 5 seconds to view the picture before it moves on to the next picture.) 4) Enable VCD Menu Displays a menu of the video tracks in sequential order. You get 6 pictures/thumbnails per Menu by default with a limit of 99 menus total, but you can increase this to 15 thumbnails in the next steps Layout option. (Important Note: If you have more pictures than can fit onto 99 menus, even with the Layout set to 12 thumbnails per menu, you must disable this Menu option to allow them all to fit onto the CD without using Menus to allow you to select where you wish to begin the viewing process. When you do not have any menu s it will start from the first picture and go through to the end when you play it on your DVD player.)

5 7. The My Video CD (VCD) Menu window opens. You can change the look of the menu. After you have made your changes, click on Next to move on to the final step.. Layout button Enabling you to change the menu thumbnail count and add or remove Footer & Header text from the menu. Background button This will allow you to change the background color or add a background picture. Text button This will allow you to edit menu text information. Show full screen menu Provides preview of Menu Window Set as Default Sets the current configuration for Layout, Background, and Text as default for all future creations.

6 8. This brings you to the Final Burn Settings window. Here you must: 1) Select the Recording device 2) Provide the Disc you are about to create with a name 3) Set your Write Speed 4) Select number of copies Click on More, after you have made your selections. Or click Burn to Write to CD.

7 9. If you selected Burn, go to the next step. If you selected the More option, you will get a drop down for more added control of the write method used. 1) Write Method You should use Disc-At-Once for optimal performance 2) Create for US TV standard Enable this for compatibility for US DVD Players 3) Determine maximum speed The speed test determines how quickly the compiled files can be accessed. If the access speed is slower than the burning speed, the burning speed is reduced so as to avoid a buffer underrun. 4) Simulation - The simulation runs all the steps involved in burning a medium apart from activating the laser beam, so that you can assume that if the simulation is successful, the burning process will also be successful. 5) Write - This checkbox enables the actual physical burning process. 10. If you selected the Burn button, it brings up the below window, requesting a blank CD-R or CD-RW media to be inserted in Recorder. Insert a blank disc and Nero will detect it and begin burning automatically.

8 11. Nero Express then begins the burn process. Note: This is an indicator of your temporary buffer level on your Hard Drive, being used by Nero during the burn. When the write has been completed successfully, you will see the below window. Click the OK button to continue.

9 13. This brings up the Burning Process window. Click on Next to continue. 14. And this brings us to the completion of the Video CD Slideshow write process. Here you can choose too Burn the same project again ; start a New project ; launch the Nero Cover Designer to create a label; or Exit the Nero Express program.
