3 The International Master's Program in Patent Law at the University of Haifa is a one year academic degree program for scientists and engineers pursuing careers as Patent Agents. This one year executive program is offered at the Haifa Center for Law and Technology (HCLT), a renowned research institute located at the Law Faculty. The University of Haifa in collaboration with the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) Academy provides excellent academic training in IP and business law combined with high-level practical experience in patent drafting, patent application and technology transactions. This unique comprehensive training provides the necessary background for practicing patent law in a global environment. In addition, an optional thesis track allows graduates to pursue an academic career in the field of Intellectual Property. Graduates of the program will be trained as Patent Attorneys, IP Analysts and IP Managers. INSTITUTION The University of Haifa Law School has been a pioneer in the area of law and technology in Israel. The Haifa Center for Law and Technology, located at the law school, is the only center in Israel which combines academic research and academic training in the area of intellectual property and law and technology. With four fulltime faculty members who focus on these areas and numerous research fellows, HCLT offers a wide selection of courses and seminars in intellectual property and information law at the graduate and post graduate level, including a joint degree in Law and Computer Science, LL.B with major in Law and Technology, and LL.M in Law and Technology. The main areas of research and teaching include: Patent Law, Copyright and Information Law. The WIPO Academy, founded in March 1998, is a division of the WIPO in Geneva mandated by its 184 Member States to provide intellectual property education and training for human resource development. Since 1998, more than 100,000 students have participated in its five programs namely, Professional Development, Academic Institutions, Distance Learning, Executive Program and WIPO Summer School.

4 ACADEMIC PROGRAM The program combines excellent academic training in intellectual property and business law with high level practical experience in patent drafting, patent application and technology transactions. This unique comprehensive training provides the necessary background for practicing patent law in a global environment. Graduates of the program will be trained (subject to satisfaction of local patent bar requirements) to practice as IP Analysts and IP Managers in large industrial companies, government agencies and patent law firms. The optional thesis track allows graduates to pursue an academic career in the area of intellectual property. The program runs for 1 calendar year (from January 2012 to January 2013). DEGREE The program grants a Master degree in Law (M.A.), with specialization in Patent Law. ENTRY REQUIREMENTS Candidates will be expected to possess a Bachelor Degree in natural sciences, computer science, pharmacy or any field of engineering. Candidates with a Bachelor Degree in Law (LLB) will also be considered. TIMING Application for the grants can be submitted from June 20 to August 5, Classes will take place from January 6, 2012 until January 25, (Classes for students with a previous law degree will start in March 2012). TRAINING PROGRAM: PATENTS LAW AND PRACTICE Rationale The master program in patents offers a comprehensive training in patent law and practice. It is designed to provide graduates of science and engineering with an introduction to law, intellectual property law, and patent law. It is also intended to provide lawyers who wish to work as IP managers or specialize in intellectual property law and patent law with the necessary expertise. Accomplished students would further be able to engage in cutting edge research in patent law and pursue a master thesis or a PhD. Language of teaching is English.
