3 Lying at approximately 480 m, the land is divided into a number of fenced enclosures that have in the past been ideal to support a flock of some 4,000 Welsh Mountain sheep. The area is well-known for its rich habitat and diverse bird population. The area is particularly famous as a home of the Red Kite. Adjoining land is notified as part of the Cwmdoethie/Myndd Mallaen Site of Special Scientific Interest and is also part of an Internationally Important Special Protection Area (SPA) and a Special Area of Conservation (SAC). The land has been entered into both the Glastir Entry Scheme and the Glastir Advanced Scheme. The combined Scheme generates income in the region of 62,000 in This important scheme rewards farmers for removing the sheep flocks from the hills to reduce stocking and therefore encourage heather regeneration on the areas of improved and unimproved grassland. The scheme will also reward the owner financially for caring for the environmental, historical and cultural features on the land; in particular there is archaeological interest within the holding including some designated schedule ancient monuments. The key environmental objectives of the Scheme are to maintain existing habitats, establish heathland vegetation on unimproved and improved grassland by removing sheep to maintain traditional field boundaries and to maintain ancient monuments and historical sites. The farm generates additional revenue from Single Farm Payments and stock sales.

5 DIRECTIONS MINES AND MINERALS AUTHORITIES From the M4 continue in a westward direction to Camarthen, thereafter head north on the A 485 through Lampeter to Tregaron, or alternatively, head north from Newport, via Abergavenny, Brecon and Llandovery to Lampeter via the A482 and thereafter the A485 to Tregaron. Continue into the village of Llanddewi Brefi from Tregaron along the B4343. In the centre of the village turn off by the sharp bend signed Farmers Mountain Road. There are heather and bilberry habitats and black grouse are seen. There is potential to re-generate the heather moorland to re-establish red grouse.
