Students will study Science Content Standards, focusing on the natural environment. All curriculum meets California s Common Core State Standards and 21st century life skills. 5 day field trip: March 14-18, 2016

6 Academic Hikes Day time Academic Hikes Students hike on established trails led by staff and teachers. The focus of these hikes to hands on science education. ECOLOGY GEOLOGY WILDLIFE BIOLOGY

8 Evening Activities Astronomy Learn about planets, stars and earth s place in the universe. Interactive games and activities to re-enforce their understanding of astronomical concepts. Unspoiled view of the night sky. View planets and nebulas through our 8 and 12 Newtonian telescopes. Night Hike Students go out into the forest for an instructor-led hike. Students put all of their senses to the test through games and activities. The goal is to see what it is like to be a nocturnal animal. Sometimes they might hear an owl or see a flying squirrel.

11 Staff ECOS Institute Staff are carefully interviewed, referenced and fingerprinted. Staff are certified in first aid and CPR. They receive ongoing training and evaluation. They enjoy working with children. The act as teachers, supervisors and supporting adult for your child while attending ECOS. Loading...

12 Accomodations Students stay in cabins with central heating, electricity and bathrooms with running water. They sleep on bunk beds and shower daily. Students clean their cabins daily. Boys and girls live in separate cabins. Instructors live in the cabins with the students.

13 Food Meals are prepared on site by food service professionals. Meals meet USDA guidelines for the National School Lunch and Breakfast Program. Seconds are available for most items. A salad bar and fresh fruit are available. A vegetarian option is available upon request. Students, teachers and staff enjoy their meals together. Table manners and polite conversation are emphasized.

14 Most students who become homesick overcome it and have a successful week. If your child becomes homesick, the staff will encourage him/her to work through it. If he/she continues to have trouble adjusting, you will be contacted.

15 Health Care A nurse is in charge of all health care related issues, including administering medications, if needed. Minor illnesses or injuries will be treated on site. If your child has something more serious, such as a fever, you will be contacted and may be asked to pick up your child.

16 Health Care (Cont.) In case of a medical emergency, you will be contacted and your child s transport to a nearby medical facility will be arranged. Due to distance and possible severe weather, transport to a medical facility could take over an hour. If your child wets the bed, please note it on the Student Registration form (confidential) and send extra bedding. If this occurs, it is handled discreetly.

17 Prescription Medication Prescription Medications Must have written doctor s orders and parent s written request. Must not be EXPIRED Must be in original Rx container Label must match written orders EXACTLY Send only the amount needed + 3 doses in case of emergency Over-the-Counter Medications on a Schedule (Same rules as for Prescription Meds)

18 Students love to receive mail! Mail will be distributed daily at camp. Turn in cards or letters for your child to the school office the week before camp. There will be a manila envelope for each day the students are at camp (Mon,Tues, Wed, Thurs, Fri). Write your child s name & teacher s name on the front of the envelope. Put your letter in the appropriate manila envelope (in the school office) to be given to your child. This will ensure that your child will receive mail and you can save on stamps. A reminder notice will be posted on the Green Sheet.

19 ~ $400 depending on the number of students attending This includes science camp fees, transportation and staff stipends (Golden teachers attending). A payment plan is available for families who wish to break up the cost over time.

20 Letter of Intent due Friday, October 16, 2015 Deposit - $100 by Friday, October 30, nd Payment - $100 by Friday, Nov. 19, rd Payment - $100 by Friday, January 22, 2016 Final Payment - $100 by Friday, February 19, 2016 (full amount needs to be paid by this time) Letter of Intent and Information Letter with payment information will be posted on the Golden website in the Forms section Reminders will be provided in both the Green Sheet and on Golden s Facebook page (search and LIKE Golden Elementary Placentia)

23 Memory Book Pizza Party held after the students return from Outdoor Science camp 6th grade bowling/game party at CSUF Titan Bowl & Billiards 6th grade vs. teachers softball game Pancake breakfast Movie day Promotion ceremony

24 The Memory Book is a special section of the yearbook dedicated to 6th grade students. We need these items for ALL 6th graders: Baby photo Kindergarten photo Pictures of your child & friends through the years (class parties, field trips, school events, etc.) Student questionnaire (Favorite book, movie, teacher, etc.) Family dedications Reminders will be placed on the Green Sheet. Forms to be completed will be posted on the website under Forms section Make sure your child is not left out!

25 Jog-a-thon will be our one and only fundraiser this year! We encourage all families to participate and donate as much as possible. A portion of your donation will help fund 6th grade end-of-year activities. A voluntary donation of $20 per child will be collected separately for end-of-year activities. This donation will cover the following additional expenses- pizza party, softball game, pancake breakfast, CSUF party and Promotion Ceremony.

26 Help your 6th graders have a great end of the year & promotion celebration. We need volunteers for: Memory Book Assistants work with Memory Book Coordinator to collect photos and memories Pizza Party - picks up pizza, ice, and volunteers the day of the event. Pancake Breakfast- volunteers the day of the event. Bowling/Game Party prep, transportation and volunteers for the day of the event. Sign up tonight!
