Name of the activity Dairy Farming, Fodder Development Place Alekhpur Name of the farmer Sri Bhabakrishna Muduli Process: What is activity (Species, numbers etc.) Dairy Farming (BHUBAN DAIRY) with 65 Cows with fodder production facilities. Why it has been initiated? Sri Bhabakrishna Muduli after completing his Executive MBA from IIM Calcutta worked as a as Senior Technical Architect in a major IT Firm in Delhi. While serving their and due to his enthusiastic nature he wanted to make an initiative to become a very successful dairy entrepreneur by producing quality milk and maintaining a farm with all the modern amenities. Further he wanted to provide earning opportunity to his younger brother in helping him maintaining his farm.

2 How it has been initiated? Started Buhuban Dairy with one cow with a daily production of 8 litres of milk. When it got started? It started Bhuban Dairy as early as 2008 when he wanted to start his own enterprise in dairy and produce mlik in a farm having all the modern amenities. Where it is existing? At the farm premises situated in his ancestral village Alekhpur of Athmallik Block. Support got in the shape of Technical He got his primary knowledge on dairying from different sources by discussing with different block level and district level Animal Husbandry staffs, attending different training programs at various level, visiting different successful farmers and gaining knowledge by virtue of studying success stories in dairying as well as from internet. Financial Initial investment was entirely from his family members and his own savings Family He gives credit of his current status to his family. His family has supported him in all respect including moral, financial and physical help. Marketing Initially supplying milk to OMFED but currently he is marketing Chenna produced from his milk to local market and hotels in nearby area of Athmallik and Boinda. Conclusion: Currently he is selling about 40 to 50 Kgs of Chenna in addition to Milk and getting a profit of about Rs 5000/- to Rs 5500/- daily by making Chenna and selling at local market and hotels.

3 Fodder cultivation activity: Berseem : 1.5 Acre Oat : 1.0 Acre Hybrid Napier : 1.5 Acre Azolla : 4 Tanks Is there any scope to expand? Yes, there is a scope and he is also interested to do so. He aims at enhancing to 100 cows within next few months. He has adopted fodder cultivation activities inside his farm premises by taking Oat and Berseem seeds and cultivated Hybrid Napier in order to decrease his production cost. He has also adopted Azolla cultivation in his premises and has therefore decreased the cost of milk production to a greater extent. Future plans: Targeted production capacity : 400 Cows 2500 liter milk /day 25KW Biomass power plant 160 MT Vermi- compost UNIT 2 Acre Organic farming with Green House Is there any scope to replicate or promote the success in other areas? Yes, definitely. It s a good project and a viable one also. Further he himself has aimed to create a milk hub trying to promote such activities in his own area taking other farmers and motivating them to make such initiatives. What other support is needed for sustainability? Exposure visit and training to places both inside and outside India regarding dairy keeping, Dairy processing, fodder cultivation, preparation of balanced and cheap feed. He further wanted to be trained regarding processing of milk and value addition of milk in order to get the maximum profit for his produce. He has further wanted to expand his activities in Dairy processing and wanted to establish a processing unit of his own as soon as his production level is reached to a desirable level. 4 He wanted to be provided with some financial assistance under KSK and has applied for the same in order to enhance his income and capability to many folds. Is there any social & economical change in the farmer after taking up the activity? Yes, the change is very remarkable. Now he has added substantially to his family income by producing about 40 to 50 Kg of Chhenna out of his milk. He has installed milking machine in his farm in order to produce clean milk. He is directly providing employment to 8-10 locals by engaging them in his farm with different activities. As a whole he believes that the income he is generating from sale proceeding of milk as well as Chenna is helping him to maintain a good social life as well as adding few

5 savings for future. Further he believes that he can be a role model for the young entrepreneurs and can make them understand the true meaning of entrepreneurship.
