2 HAND IN HAND INDIA VILLAGE UPLIFTMENT PROGRAMME Please find enclosed the six month report on the Village Upliftment Programme for Amainthakarunai panchayat, made possible through a grant supported by Intrum Justitia. Implementation for the project began in January 2013 and the activities conducted January 2013 to June 2013 are detailed in the report below. Achievements List of activities during the last six months is given below Village Development Committee Formed Two meetings conducted to involve the community in planning the activities to be implemented under VUP Self Help Groups and Microfinance 14 women Self Help Groups are functioning with 184 members 156 Self Help Group members were given basic capacity building training One veterinary camp conducted with 1010 animals treated Child Labour Elimination Project Fifteen children enrolled into school Health One free medical camp(pediatric) conducted in which 53 children benefitting Environment Three awareness programs conducted on Environment and vermi compost Two mass cleaning programs conducted 2

3 Social Mapping and Survey Hand in Hand India has carried out a survey to identify existing welfare services, problems and issues in the Panchayat. Through this exercise, Hand in Hand India was able to map the physical and population demographics of the community and chalked out a plan for addressing the underlined issues most effectively. The process began with a Door to Door survey and Participatory Rural Appraisal (PRA).
