3 Our Power Systems department is a specialized business unit of the company that designs control systems for various applications. The focus is on workingboats, like hopperdredgers, cutterdredgers. Some applications are winches, cutters, pumps and propulsion installations. Marine Installations These are being controlled by frequency converters that are especially designed for the system. Also we upgrade old installations by replacing old drives with new state of the art drives. 3

4 Frequency converters come in different shapes and sizes. These converters are used to control the speed and torque of the electrical motor. We can supply frequency converters of all the common brands, either air or liquid cooled. Also we design, build and install these drives into your system. The frequency converter can also be used as a static converter for the supply of 400/230V systems. Frequency Converters 4 CUTTER, PUMP AND WINCH DRIVES For full and seamless control of motors we can supply a complete range of frequencydrives. If needed the drives can be cooled by Van der Leun Hex-type water coolers.

5 Heat exchanger Liquid cooled frequency converters can be cooled by a heat exchanger. Van der Leun heat exchangers are specially designed to guarantee a consistent cooling water temperature. Steady cooling water temperatures avoid condensation and pollution of the frequency converter. Depending on the application, these heat exchangers can be provided in various executions, with a single - or a redundant pump. Because the efficiency of an electric propulsion is normally higher than a conventional propulsion, it can be a good idea to invest in an electrical system instead of a conventional diesel propulsion. 8 DC Drives DC (Direct Current) Drives convert a fixed 3 phase supply voltage into a variable DC voltage. Before the introduction of the frequency converters, these drives were used for a lot of applications, like winches, pumps and cutter installations. Nowadays digital DC drives are used to replace the old analog drives in order to upgrade the systems. A special application is the Ward Leonard system where digital DC Drives are used to control the field of the generator and motor. Regulating the speed of the connected DC motor. 8

9 WINCH MOTORS Winch motors with a foot- or flange housing, equipped with encoders and integrated brakes. Electric Motors can be delivered in a variety of types. First the application is investigated to select the right motor. Criteria taken into account are the mounting of the motor, the environmental conditions to determine the cooling and protection degree and the specific requirments of the application.
