1 Enrichment w i d e n i n g y o u r l e a r n i n g e x p e r i e n c e progr amme This is a guide to all of the activities Norton College Enrichment Programme has to offer. Page 1

2 Rationale Norton College s enrichment programme is designed to support students in developing academic, social and personal skills in line with their studies and to enable students to engage with areas of interest outside of their academic studies. Enrichment allows students to add breadth and depth to their learning experience whilst in the Sixth Form. It supports personal statements and CVs and helps students become well rounded individuals. We expect students to undertake enrichment for two hours a week. Our Programme Our enrichment programme is divided into Core and Personal Enrichment. The core sessions allows us to support and deliver sessions which advise and guide students. Students have opportunities to learn about areas such as finance, careers, sexual health, opportunities available and much more. The personal sessions allow the individual to choose activities that they feel they will enjoy whilst widening their learning and supporting their CV and personal statements.. Page 2

3 CORE ENRICHMENT PROGRAMME Careers You will have the opportunity to attend a variety of advice and guidance sessions on your choosing your future career. We will ensure you are making decisions that suit your future aspirations. Sessions will be led by professionals from UCAS, apprenticeships schemes and work based learning providers. Sexual Health and Relationships This aspect of the programme provides lifelong learning about physical, moral and emotional development. Topics include understanding the importance of marriage for family life, stable and loving relationships, respect, love and care, as well as sex, sexuality, and sexual health. Road Safety As our 6th form students are learning to drive, we have a responsibility to ensure that our students have been educated in the importance of road safety. With presentations and videos, we hope to make sure our students are able to make good decisions and choices when out on the road. Politics and Voting We will provide sessions for students to learn about local, general and European elections. We will inform them of the process they could go through when they are allowed to vote. Local MPs will visit the school and inform students of the importance of their vote and how it affects them as individuals. Students will be encouraged to carry out research into the MPs and government parties to explore the choices they will make when voting is applicable to them. We will hold a mock election so students can see the voting in action. Drugs and Alcohol These sessions will inform students of the implications of drugs and alcohol and we will guide them to ensure they make the right choices and decisions for themselves. Sessions will make students aware of some of the dangers that may occur. First Aid and CPR training All students will complete the course. You will need to sign up to one of the 3 X 6 week sessions throughout the year. See page 12 for full details Page 3
