AJL provides employers and job seekers with easy-to-use tools that support a wide range of activities. As a service of the public workforce system, AJL is completely free for you to use. You only need access to a computer and an internet connection to do the following: Create and post a resume Determine whether you are eligible for state- or federally funded programs Research labor market information Search for the ideal job Search for the ideal training provider And much more! Because AJL is web based, you can access AJL at any time, from anywhere you can access the internet. You can establish a self-service account to manage your job search, or receive assistance from a workforce development professional at your local one-stop workforce center. 8 America's JobLink 12.3 America's JobLink Home The AJL home page is your point of entry to the AJL website. From the home page you can: Browse the AJL website by clicking the commands on the AJL main menu at the left of your screen, or activate the submenus by pointing to the commands on the main menu. Learn more about AJL services for job seekers, conduct a Quick Job Search, or create a job seeker account by pointing to Find a Job on the main menu. Access job seeker resources, training provider information, and labor market information by pointing to Resources on the main menu. (Resources links may vary by state.) Access state-specific information by clicking the commands on the Quick Links menu. Log into your job seeker account. Finding the AJL Home Page Each subscribing state has its own AJL website. You may find it helpful to view your state's website while using this guide. To do so, find your state in the table below and click the link. You can then follow the instructions under the "Finding" headings in this guide to view the specific web page being discussed. The Contact page provides links to the Feedback/Ask a Question Form and to your state's unemployment services website. It also provides a list of the one-stop workforce centers in your state and their phone numbers. Click on the name of a workforce center to see additional contact information, such as address, website, and hours of operation. Finding the Contact Page On the AJL main menu, click Contact. FAQ and Help The FAQ/Help page lists frequently asked questions and answers. It is divided into two sections: Job Seeker Questions and Employer Questions. If your question is not on the FAQ/Help page, submit a Feedback/Ask a Question form and a state workforce representative will contact you with the answer. Finding the FAQ/Help Page On the AJL main menu, click FAQ/Help. Feedback Ask a Question Form Use the Feedback/Ask a Question form to submit feedback or questions. To submit a Feedback/Ask a Question Form, follow the instructions in the table below and click Submit. First Name Last Name Phone Address Enter your first name. Enter your last name. Enter your ten-digit phone number. If applicable, type the phone extension in the Ext. field. Your phone number will only be used to respond to this inquiry. Enter your address. Your address will only be used to respond to this inquiry. Confirm Address To confirm your address, re-type it. I Am Select whether you are A Job Seeker, An Employer, or Just Visiting

If none of the topics listed closely matches the topic of your feedback/question, select Other. Enter your question or comment. To check your spelling, click Check spelling. Select how you prefer to be contacted. If you do not want to be contacted, select Please do not contact me. Finding the Feedback/Ask a Question Form On the Contact page, click send us your feedback or Use our Feedback/Ask a Question Form, or On the FAQ/Help page, click Feedback/Ask a Question. Languages AJL uses Microsoft Translator to provide online translation services supporting 34 languages. To access the translation tool, click Languages at the bottom of the AJL home page. Browser Help The Browser Help page provides instructions and recommendations for optimizing your AJL experience. For example, did you know you can navigate AJL using a mouse or a keyboard, and that you can customize the page display by zooming in or out for easier viewing? The Browser Help page also provides links for downloading the most current version of Google Chrome, Internet Explorer, Mozilla Firefox, and Opera. Finding the Browser Help Page At the bottom of the AJL home page, click Browser Help. Privacy and Protect Yourself AJL takes the security of your personal information very seriously. To learn more about how the information you provide is used and protected, read the Privacy Statement. While AJL follows strict industry standards to protect your privacy, it is also important for you to be proactive in protecting yourself while browsing the AJL website and the - 4 -

Finding the Privacy and Protect Yourself Pages At the bottom of the AJL home page, click Privacy or Protect Yourself. Veterans' Priority AJL and its partners are committed to providing priority of service to qualified veterans and their spouses in accordance with the Veterans' Priority Provisions of the Jobs for Veterans Act (PL ). The Jobs for Veterans Act mandates that covered persons (qualified veterans and their spouses) take precedence over non-covered persons for the receipt of re-employment and training resources or services. Precedence can mean either of the following: The covered person receives access to the resource or service more quickly than the non-covered person. If the service or resource is limited, the covered person receives access instead of the non-covered person. The Veterans' Priority page displays the Veterans' Priority Statement. To improve your chances of finding the ideal job, take advantage of AJL's job-matching and labor market information resources. All of AJL's tools are free for you to use, but some require a username and password to access. We understand that you may want to learn more about what AJL has to offer before deciding whether to create an account, so the topics in this section explain how to use the AJL tools that do not require a username and password. 13 Job Seeker's Self-Service User Guide Self-Service vs. Staff-Assisted AJL gives you the choice among managing your own job search activities (selfdirected), seeking assistance from a professional at your local one-stop workforce center (staff-assisted), or a combination of both. Even if you choose to begin by creating a self-service account, you can contact your local one-stop workforce center for assistance at any time. The workforce professionals there are trained to guide you through exploring your career interests, creating a resume, registering for job training, contacting a potential employer, and more. To locate the workforce center nearest you, click Contact on the AJL main menu. Quick Job Search The AJL database contains thousands of job openings. Using the Quick Job Search, you can search for and preview current job openings by keyword and location, without creating or logging into an account. NOTE: To view job details and use the full range of AJL job search methods, you must create a job seeker account. To conduct a Quick Job Search, complete the desired fields by following the instructions in the table below and click Search. For information about the options on the search results page, see Viewing Your Job Search Results. Enter one or more keywords Enter location as city and state (Boston, MA) or enter the five-digit ZIP Search radius around above location JobLink plus jobs from other sites JobLink jobs only Enter the desired key word(s). Use job titles, such as mechanic or teacher. To produce more specific results, add descriptors, such as auto mechanic or preschool teacher. Enter the city and state or five-digit ZIP code that is the target of your search. To look up a ZIP code by city and state, click Find ZIP Code. To search an entire state, enter the state name or abbreviation (for example, Vermont or VT). If you leave this field blank, your search will be nationwide. If you entered a location in the location field, you must select a search radius, unless the location you entered is a state name or abbreviation. Select a search radius (in miles) around the city and state or ZIP code you entered in the location field. Select to include other job matching and company websites in your search. NOTE: AJL cannot be held accountable for the accuracy or legitimacy of job postings from other websites. Select to include only jobs posted on AJL in your search. Finding the Quick Job Search Page - 7 -

14 America's JobLink 12.3 On the AJL main menu, point to Find a Job and click Quick Job Search. Labor Market Information The Labor Market Information page provides a link to AJL's real-time labor market information (LMI) reports. Depending on the state, the Labor Market Information page may also include links to state-specific labor market information (for example, to the website of the state agency responsible for collecting labor market information), and/or to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) website. Finding the Labor Market Information Page On the AJL main menu, point to Resources and click Labor Market Information. AJL Real-Time LMI AJL offers ten labor market information reports. The reports are compiled in real-time using employer and job seeker data from the AJL system. Simply click a report on the AJL Real-Time LMI page and enter your criteria to view the most current data on that topic. Click the links on the left for instructions on how to generate each type of report. Labor Surplus and Shortages Salary Trends Employer Characteristics Job Opening Average Wage Hiring Trends Job Seeker Characteristics Current Labor Availability AJL Statistics View information on labor supply and demand. View minimum and maximum hourly salaries for the 25 occupations most frequently listed on AJL, or view the average preferred hourly salary taken from resumes representing the 25 occupations most frequently posted on AJL. View selected characteristics of the 25 employers who most frequently post job openings on AJL. View a count of job openings received and filled in the last 30 days, including the average wage. View the number of job openings filled by occupation. View selected characteristics of active job seekers by the 25 most frequently posted occupations. View the number of resumes versus the number of job openings by occupation, including average wage. View historical and current statistics on job seeker and employer utilization of AJL. High Growth Jobs View information about which jobs and industries are the most high growth and economically viable in your state or area

Finding the AJL Real-Time LMI Page On the AJL main menu, point to Resources, then point to Labor Market Information and click Reports. Generating a Labor Surplus and Shortage Report To generate a Labor Surplus and Shortage report, complete the fields by following the instructions in the table below and click Continue. Choose Report Reporting Area County Starting Month Ending Month Select Labor Surplus or Labor Shortage. Select County or State. If you selected County for Reporting Area, select the desired county. If you selected State for Reporting area, this field does not display. Select a starting month and year for the date range. Select an ending month and year for the date range. Finding the Labor Surplus and Shortage Report On the AJL main menu, point to Resources, then point to Labor Market Information and click Reports. On the AJL Real-Time LMI page, click Labor Surplus and Shortage. Generating a Salary Trends Report To generate a Salary Trends report, complete the fields by following the instructions in the table below and click Continue. Choose Report Select the desired report type. To view minimum and maximum hourly salaries for the 25 occupations most frequently posted on AJL, select Job Orders. To view the average preferred hourly salary taken from resumes representing the 25 occupations most frequently posted on AJL, - 9 -

Finding the Salary Trends Report On the AJL main menu, point to Resources, then point to Labor Market Information and click Reports. On the AJL Real-Time LMI page, click Salary Trends. Generating an Employer Characteristics Report To generate an Employer Characteristics report, complete the fields by following the instructions in the table below and click Continue. Choose Report Reporting Area County, Region, or WIB Select the desired type of report. To view the 25 employers that most frequently post job openings on AJL, as well as the occupational titles for the jobs posted, select Employer. To view the educational requirements for the 25 occupations most frequently posted on AJL, select Education Level. To view the experience level requirements for the 25 occupations most frequently posted on AJL, select Experience Level. To view the employment type (full time or part time, regular or temporary) for the 25 occupations most frequently posted on AJL, select Employment Type. To view the company ownership type (Federal Gvt, State Gvt, Local Gvt, International, Private Sector, or Private Party) for the 25 occupations most frequently posted on AJL, select Ownership Type. Select County, Region, WIB (Workforce Investment Board; WIBs are the same as Local Workforce Investment Areas [LWIAs]), or State. Select the desired county, region, or WIB (depending on which option you selected for Reporting Area). If you selected State for Reporting Area, this field does not display

Generating a Job Opening Average Wage Report To generate a Job Orders Received by Area/Wage or Job Orders Filled by Area/Wage report, click the desired report (Job Orders Received by Area/Wage, or Job Orders Filled by Area/Wage), then complete the fields by following the instructions in the table below and click Submit. Field Name Area Select the desired area. To view the number of job orders received/filled by average wage statewide, select Statewide. To view the number of job orders received/filled by average wage and the county in which they were processed, select County. To view the number of job orders received/filled by average wage and the one-stop workforce center at which they were processed, select Office. Finding the Job Opening Average Wage Report On the AJL main menu, point to Resources, then point to Labor Market Information and click Reports. On the AJL Real-Time LMI page, click Job Opening Average Wage. Generating a Hiring Trends Report To generate a Hiring Trends report, complete the fields by following the instructions in the table below and click Continue. Reporting Area Select the desired reporting area. To view the number of job orders filled by occupation and the

18 America's JobLink 12.3 County, Region, or WIB Starting Month county in which they were processed, select County. To view the number of job orders filled by occupation and the region in which they were processed, select Region. To view job orders filled by occupation and the Workforce Investment Board area (WIB) in which they were processed, select WIB. WIBs are the same as Local Workforce Investment Areas (LWIAs). To view job orders filled by occupation statewide, select State. Select the desired county, region, or WIB (depending on which option you selected for Reporting Area). If you selected State for Reporting Area, this field does not display. Select a starting month and year for the date range. Ending Month Select an ending month and year for the date range. Finding the Hiring Trends Report On the AJL main menu, point to Resources, then point to Labor Market Information and click Reports. On the AJL Real-Time LMI page, click Hiring Trends. Generating a Job Seeker Characteristics Report To generate a Job Seeker Characteristics report, complete the fields by following the instructions in the table below and click Continue. Choose Report Select the desired type of report. To view job seeker education levels by occupation, select Education Level. To view job seeker experience levels (in years) by occupation, select Experience Level. To view job seeker gender, race, and ethnicity by occupation, select Gender/Race and Ethnicity Report. To view job seeker employment status (Unemployed, Employed, Non-Claimant, Unemployment Claimant) by occupation, select Employment Status. To view job seeker veteran status (Non-Veteran, Veteran, Recently Separated Veteran) by occupation, select Veteran Status. To view job seeker interstate/dislocated worker status (Dislocated, Live in <State> desire work in <State>; Live in <State> desire work in Other State; Live in Other State desire work in <State>; Live in

Finding the Job Seeker Characteristics Report On the AJL main menu, point to Resources, then point to Labor Market Information and click Reports. On the AJL Real-Time LMI page, click Job Seeker Characteristics. Generating a Current Labor Availability Report To generate a Current Labor Availability Report: 1. On the AJL main menu, point to Labor Market Information and click Reports. On the AJL Real-Time LMI page, click Current Labor Availability. 2. From the Area drop-down list, select Statewide, or the desired area or county. 3. Click Submit. This directs you to the O*NET Lookup page where you can search for an occupation using one of four search methods. For instructions on using each search method, click the links below. o Keyword o Most Common o Job Family o Military Occupational Specialty 4. Once you have found the occupation you are looking for, click Career Info next to the occupation to view the report. Searching for an Occupation by Keyword To search for an occupation by keyword: 1. On the O*NET Lookup page, in the Keyword Match field, select Any, All, or Exact. o To search for occupations that include any of the keywords you enter, select Any

20 America's JobLink 12.3 o To search for occupations that match all of the keywords you enter, select All. o To search for occupations that match the exact keywords you enter, select Exact. 2. Enter the desired keyword(s) in the Keywords field and click Search. 3. Review the search results. NOTE: You may have more than one page of search results. To view additional pages, click the page numbers at the bottom of the screen. o If the search results include occupational titles that mapped to more than one occupational code, click View to narrow your search. A list of related occupations displays. o If your search results include unique matches (occupational titles that mapped to only one occupational code), click Description to view the O*NET job description associated with the occupation, a list of related occupations, and occupational tasks and activities. o If the occupation you are looking for is not listed, click New Search at the bottom of the screen and return to Step 1 or choose a different search method from the list of Related Links. 4. Once you have found the occupation you are looking for, click Career Info next to the occupation to view the Current Labor Availability report. Searching for an Occupation by Most Common Using the Most Common method, you can select an occupation from a list of the occupations most commonly posted on jobs and resumes in AJL. To search for an occupation by Most Common: 1. On the O*NET Lookup page, click Most Common in the list of Related Links. 2. Review the list of occupations. o To view the O*NET job description associated with an occupation, a list of related occupations, and occupational tasks and activities, click Description next to the occupation. o If the occupation you are looking for is not listed, click Return at the bottom of the screen and choose a different search method from the list of Related Links. 3. Once you have found the occupation you are looking for, click Career Info next to the occupation to view the Current Labor Availability report. Searching for an Occupation by Job Family Job Family is a list of O*NET occupational titles by O*NET occupational category. The top level categories or families are broad, and become more specific as you narrow your search. To search for an occupation by Job Family:

21 Job Seeker's Self-Service User Guide 1. On the O*NET Lookup page, click Job Family in the list of Related Links. 2. Click a job family in the list of Top Level Job Families to search for an occupation within that job family. 3. Review the search results. o To view the O*NET job description associated with the occupation, a list of related occupations, and occupational tasks and activities, click Description next to the job title. o If the occupation you are looking for is not listed: Click Up a Level to return to the previous page of results, or Click New Search at the bottom of the screen and choose a different search method from the list of Related Links. 4. Once you have found the occupation you are looking for, click Career Info next to the occupation to view the Current Labor Availability report. Searching for an Occupation by Military Occupational Specialty The Military Occupational Specialty (MOS) code search is designed to assist uniformed service members, DOD civilian employees, and veterans in identifying O*NET occupational codes that are similar to their military/dod occupations. To search for an occupation by MOS: 1. On the O*NET Lookup page, click Military in the list of Related Links. 2. In the Keyword Match field, select Any, All, or Exact. o To search for occupations that match any of the MOSs or keywords you enter, select Any. o To search for occupations that match all of the MOSs or keywords you enter, select All. o To search for occupations that match the exact MOS(s) or keyword(s) you enter, select Exact. 3. Enter the desired MOS(s) or keyword(s) in the MOS Code or Keyword field and click Search. 4. Review the search results. NOTE: You may have more than one page of search results. To view additional pages, click the page numbers at the bottom of the screen. o To view the O*NET job description associated with the occupation, a list of related occupations, and occupational tasks and activities, click Description next to the job title. o If the occupation you are looking for is not listed, click New Search at the bottom of the screen and return to Step 1 or choose a different search method from the list of Related Links. 5. Once you have found the occupation you are looking for, click Career Info next to the occupation to view the Current Labor Availability report

22 America's JobLink 12.3 Generating an AJL Statistics Report To generate an AJL Statistics report, follow the instructions in the table below and click View Report. Type of Area Type of Time Period County, Labor Market Area, Metropolitan Statistical Area, or Workforce Investment Area Week Starting, Quarter Select the desired type of area. To view the amount of AJL employer and job seeker activity by county, select County. To view the amount of AJL employer and job seeker activity by labor market area, select Labor Market Area. Labor Market Areas are Micropolitan Statistical Areas: areas with a city at their core, with a population greater than 10,000 but less than 50,000, and close economic ties to adjacent counties. To view the amount of AJL employer and job seeker activity by metropolitan statistical area (MSA), select Metropolitan Statistical Area. AJL gives job seekers the choice between two types of user accounts: BASIC and PLUS. Both accounts are a service of the public workforce system and are free for you to use. The Job Seeker Overview page describes the benefits associated with each type of account so that you can choose which account will meet your needs. Enter your Social Security Number (SSN), or select I decline the entry of my Social Security Number. Providing your SSN is optional. If you do not provide your SSN, AJL will generate a pseudo SSN for you. The pseudo SSN can be replaced with your real SSN later. Click Continue. 3. If you chose to provide your SSN, re-enter it and click Continue. If you chose not to provide your SSN, click Confirm. 4. Complete all of the required fields on the New Account Creation for Job Seeker page. Required fields are indicated throughout AJL by a blue asterisk. If desired, also complete the optional fields. 5. Click Submit. o If you are not a veteran or the spouse of a veteran, your BASIC Account is complete. The BASIC Account Completion page offers the following options: To visit your personal home page, click Visit Your Home Page. To build or upload a resume, click BUILD A RESUME. To create a PLUS Account, click CREATE A PLUS ACCOUNT.
