Task: Investigation of different mass concentrations of particulate exhaust components on the ESA and determination of their contents (heavy metals). 4.1 Preliminary remarks: The interlaboratory test is intended to quantify the concentrations of particulate matter and of some heavy metals (Cd, Co, Cu, Ni, Pb and Cr) being components of such dust. The Guidelines VDI 2066, Sheet 1, November 2006, and/or DIN EN of April 2002 are to be observed. A complete, appropriate set of equipment for recording and determining small amounts of particulate matter content using plane filter head equipment is necessary, incl. the equipment for investigate the standard emission conditions. This equipment has to be property of the institution which takes place in this interlaboratory 4.2 Operational state of the ESA during the interlaboratory test The facility is operated using ambient air mode which is cleaned by a particle filter EU 7 before use; this gas won t be warmed up. The ESA will operate in the medium performance range (between 3000 and 6500 m 3 /h). 4.3 Measuring level of the ESA and position of the measuring site The measuring levels are on the 3rd floor of the office building of the HLUG (room 371), approx m above ground level and at the end of a 14 m long vertical upstream flow track. To carry out the interlaboratory test 4 sampling openings (M2, M3, M9, M10) with an internal thread G3 (R3 ) will be used. 5. Measuring 5.1 Determination of the general conditions Before starting the interlaboratory test the following general conditions should be determined: choice of measurement points (are prescribed) investigation of the velocity profile in the cross section using two measuring axes; number of measurement points (two points per axis) air pressure at the height of the measurement level temperature in the measurement channel water vapour concentration (moisture in the measuring channel)

3 Page 3 of 5 calculation of the volume flow The measurement results for the general gas conditions are to be handed in by the participants of the interlaboratory test as part of the total information to be reported. 5.2 Sampling: Every participant must carry out the investigation of the particulate matter concentrations by isokinetic extraction of a dust-containing sampling volume in accordance with Guideline VDI 2066, Sheet 1 November 2006 "Particulate matter measurement. Dust measurement in flowing gases. Gravimetric determination of dust" and/or DIN EN April 2002 "Stationary source emissions - Determination of low range mass concentration of dust Part 1". All components of the testing equipment have to conform to the specifications of the VDI Guideline 2066 Sheet 1 November 2006 and/or DIN EN April Every individual measurement (sampling) takes exact half an hour. 10 individual measurements (including an introductory measurement) are to be carried out. The sampling is done simultaneously by all participants. Concentrations within the following specified areas are being offered: Phase 1 1 to 4 mg/m 3 Phase 2 4 to 7 mg/m 3 Phase 3 7 to 12 mg/m 3 (The specifications are to be understood only as indications) 5.3 Allocation of measurement openings The allocation of the measurement openings is set by the staff of the HLUG on site. 6. Treatment of the filters allocated 6.1 Gravimetric determination The gravimetric determination of the dust having been sampled is done according to standards in the laboratory of the measuring sites involved. 6.2 Fine particles contents The analytical investigation of the heavy metals content within the dust is done in the laboratory of the measuring sites involved with the relevant equipment (AAS, ICP etc.) in accordance with DIN EN May 2004 and VDI 2268 Sheets 1-4. Concentrations of the following elements (per sample) are to be determined: Cadmium Cobalt Copper

4 Page 4 of 5 Nickel Lead Chromium 7. Publication of results During the final interlaboratory test day every participant receives a specific participant number (PIN-Code). Using this ID code and going via the following Website results are to be electronically transferred to the HLUG. Also, the results shall be sent to the HLUG as a paper (e.g. printout of the filled input mask on the computer of the participant). The handover has to be done not later than 6 weeks after the final day of the interlaboratory At the latest, six weeks after the transfer of the results by the participant, he/she will receive the participation results from the HLUG, together with an invoice for the interlaboratory testing. Timeline of the interlaboratory test 1st interlaboratory test day (Tuesday) It is recommended to arrive on the day before (monday) 09:30 o clock 1 Welcome and introduction to interlaboratory testing. 10:00 till 12:00 o clock Assembly and testing of the measuring equipment.
