2 History of Illinois Energy Conservation Code 2001 Chicago s first-ever Energy Code (2001 IECC) 2003 Illinois law requires Energy Code for State Buildings 2004 Public Act requires Energy Code for all Commercial Buildings 2006 Legislation requires Energy Code to be Most current version IECC 2009 Legislation adds Residential Energy Code Provisions (2009 IECC) 2012 Amended implementation of 2012 IECC to January 1, Likely implementation date for 2015 IECC, November 30, 2015 Destination Energy Savings 2015 Business Symposium

26 Case Study: WBGL Radio Station Renovation & Expansion [Champaign, IL] Concept 1 MAX SITE DENSITY: Results in largest envelope area of any concept. This concept has the most energy consumption. Even with the increased surface areas, a large portion of the building cannot use daylight harvesting without the addition of skylight design. Concept 2 MEDIUM DENSITY & ATRIA: Results in an increased density with reduced envelope area and associated thermal loads. With the two atrium spaces and clerestory glazing, daylight harvesting potential is substantially greater than Concept 1. Concept 3 MAX DENSITY & ATRIUM: Results in a reduction of envelope area to 50% of Concept 1. This also leads to the least energy consumption of all concepts. However, initial daylight studies estimate a slight loss of potential for daylight harvesting than in Concept 2.
