PRE-DELIVERY INSPECTION (PDI) CHECK LIST The checklist below may help you at the time of your PDI inspection before leaving the dealers lot with your new RV. A FEW THINGS TO CONSIDER: Don't catch the dealer in a position where they are thinking that he can do his usual quick once-over check-off list. Let the dealer know during your negotiations for the camper that you have a PDI list that you will be using with the dealers technician before you take delivery, in other words give the dealer a little pre-warning. Also arrange for plenty of time with the dealer for the pickup, loading and walkthrough. Tell the dealer that you've been coached by the Eagle Cap Owners Group. You may want to bring a bag of popcorn to test the microwave and a wand type lighter to light and test the oven operation. Spend your first night or two in a nearby campground with and without hookups. Note any problems that arise, these can be corrected by returning to the dealer after one or two days. This Pre-delivery Inspection List was compiled with information gathered from the members of the Eagle Cap Owners Group. This list is to be used as a general guide only and may not cover all options or models built. It is the Buyers responsibility to insure that everything meets his or her satisfaction before they take delivery of the camper unit. Before you start the PDI close the door and take a seat by yourself in your new camper, this is a good time to take few moments and look at the overall fit and finish and see if there is anything obviously missing or that needs to be fixed. INTERIOR ITEMS FRESH WATER SYSTEM: Have the water tank filled and check the basement for any leaks. If possible the truck and camper should be pointed slightly up hill for this and all water tests. Test the fresh water system; see that it holds pressure without the pump cycling on and off. Fill the water heater and see that it fires up and makes hot water and shuts down. Have the dealer show you where the water heater by-pass valve is located and how it is operated for cold weather camping. Run water into all sinks (about half full) with the stopper in the drain in the closed position, check under the sink for leaks where the drain connects to the bottom of the sink, drain the sinks and check the P traps, drain lines and the basement for any leaks after this test. Kitchen sink covers installed if equipped. Check all the faucets for correct operation, no dripping when turned off, check the shower(s) inside shower and outside shower if equipped, for correct operation. If equipped with a kitchen sink water filter, check operation. Run water down the shower drain check for leaks and any water in the basement below the shower. Check the toilet, partially fill and then flush. Check that the toilet is tightly mounted to the floor.
HEATING AND AIR CONDITIONING: Run the heater. Check that all the vents blow hot and have about equal amounts of air volume discharge. Unequal volumes may indicate a loose or missing heater duct hose. Let the heater warm the camper a few degrees then turn the thermostat to off. The blower should remain running for a short time and then shut down. Run the AC, make sure the AC blows cold. Test both fan speed settings. Let the unit run and cool the camper down a few degrees before shutting the AC down. APPLIANCES: Turn on the stove and check to see that all 3 burners will light. Range hood top installed? Check the indicator lights at this time for the battery on the range hood do they light up? Range hood fan operation and range hood light working correctly? Turn on oven and light the pilot and see if it will stay lit. Turn the ovens main burner on and check for a blue flame. If equipped; check the microwave for correct operation a (a bag of microwave popcorn works great). Run the range hood fan. Does it open the vent flap on the outside of the camper? Turn the refrigerator on in the propane mode on and see if it starts to cool down. You can feel it cool down the rear of the freezer after about 15 minutes. Also run the refrigerator in the 120 volt and the 12 volt settings if equipped, for about 5 minutes each the Check light should not come on at any time during this test. Have the dealer show you the different settings and powering options for the refrigerator ( 3- way 120 volt, propane, 12 volt or 2-way 120 volt, propane). HOLDING TANKS: Ask the Dealer about which sink drains into which holding tank, most bathrooms sinks drain into the black tank. Kitchen and shower into the gray tank. Do all of the sensors for the tanks work? They should all read empty at this point. CABINETS, DRAWERS & BATHROOM DOOR: Check to see that all cabinet doors and draw faces have a good finish coat on them Check that all the drawers do not slide straight out but need to be lifted slightly to be opened. All cabinet doors should close easily and be flush with the cabinets. Locks should be adjusted so the doors remain locked while underway. Check the bathroom door for correct operation. It should slide both directions easily. Does the bathroom door latch work correctly?
INTERIOR LIGHTS & ELECTRICAL: Check all the interior lights for correct function, including the range hood. Does light over the dinette have two switches for turning it on? One at the inside the back door one on the light. If you have a radio, turn it on and make sure it works. If the speakers have beads of foam behind them, it will sound like very small rocks in the speakers. Check to make sure that you have a new deep cycle battery installed in the camper, you paid for it. Test the battery kill switch. Locate the switch for the basement air circulation fan. To check the operation of the fan to heat the basement you should feel a small amount of air coming out of the register by the bathroom. If TV ready, check the antenna (satellite or over the air) for function, run it up and down; while the antenna is up swivel it and check for binding. Check to see if it has stowed correctly after your test. Use a night light to test for power to all of the 110 volt outlets. Is there a ground fault circuit interrupter or GFCI in the receptacle behind the kitchen sink? FLOORING: Check all the floor coverings for any rips or stains. Check for any missing floor moldings. WINDOWS & VENTS: Check all the windows by opening and closing them. Screens on all windows except; the escape window in the cab over. Check that all the vents open close and seal, if equipped with a fantastic fan vent check for correct operation. SAFETY ITEMS: Check the smoke alarm LPG detector and CO detector for correct operation. Locate and check date on fire extinguisher inside camper.
CAMPER ROOF AREA: EXTERIOR ITEMS Check the roof and make sure that there are no holes in the rubber roof. Look at all the calking around anything that comes thru the roof. Are all the vent caps on all of the vent stacks? AC cover secured tightly to the unit, AC unit tightly attached to the top of the camper. Solar Power panel inspect the panel for cracks. If the panel works the battery light will show a charge without any other power applied to the camper. CAMPER SIDES, FRONT & REAR AREAS: Check all of the exterior calking for gaps and missing areas of calking. Look at all the exterior trim to make sure that all the screws are in all the holes. If anything looks loose it is! Check all exterior lights for correct operation, cracked or missing lenses. Make sure that the turn signals operate correctly. Open and close all of the outside doors and check for correct operation and fit, are all the screws in place that hold the outside door trim rings to the camper. Is the box for the shore power cord firmly fastened to the camper from the inside? Reach in and see if it can easily be pushed away from the outside of the camper. If you have a slide model check to see that the slide is square with the camper and retracts smoothly and squarely. Slide gasket not torn or ripped. If equipped do the rear and or slide awnings work correctly. Check the camper for any signs of delaminating gel-coat, check for any cracks in the gel-coat. Check jack operation, if electric do you have the remote. Does it operate the jacks correctly? CAMPER BOTTOM AREA: Moldings and trim in place and correctly fastened and caulked to the camper. Are all of the bottom panels flush with one another, sagging, bowing out or gaps that may indicate a problem. Is the umbilical cord plug solidly secured to the underside of the camper in the front left side under the wing. PROPANE GENERATOR: There should be a clamp on the generator exhaust pipe extension. Check that it is tight. Have the dealer open the generator compartment and perform a general visual inspection. Look for cracks in the housing or signs of mishandling during installation. Start the generator using the camper battery without the exterior AC attached. The generator should not come on-line immediately. There is a time delay circuit and the generator should come on line in about 45 seconds. Allow the generator two minutes warm up time before using. When the generator is warmed up, turn on the Air Conditioner (or microwave, but not both at the same time). Two minutes operational time should be sufficient. Turn off electrical appliances. Allow the generator to run for two minutes to cool down after use.
CAMPER GENERAL: Make sure that all of your options are there and you know how to use them. Use EC's build list to verify you have all of the options shown for your new camper. If the dealer has installed tie downs or air bags on your truck make sure that the bolts are tight and that you know how to use these new items. Check that the manual crank for the slide is there. Check that the manual crack for the Happijac s has been included. Request that the dealer show you how to operate both the slide out and the Happijac s manually. If this is your first camper, ask the dealer to show you the correct procedure for loading and unloading the camper. Has the camper been cleaned up, look in the basement and any other place that you can peek into to see if there are any debris left over from the assembly line work. Wood chips, pieces of wiring and so on. Are there any stains on the walls or the roof that may indicate any water that may have leaked into the camper at any time in the past. Open the propane bay door, do you have the correct size and amount of tanks that your unit was designed to carry? You may smell a very slight propane odor when you open the door, this is normal. COMMENTS OR NOTES ABOUT NEEDED REPAIRS OR MISSING ITEMS: Dealers Signature: Date: Owner Signature: Date: Once you have a punch list of things to fix, ask the dealer to sign off on it, a good dealer should be happy to sign it and give you a WE OWE YOU receipt that he owes you missing items and or repairs. A FEW WORDS ON CAMPER MAINTENANCE YOUR PART: Remember that you need to be proactive in keeping everything functioning properly. Periodically check all water and other fittings, keep battery maintained, check for early signs of leaks, re-torque screws and bolts as needed, look for delaminating signs on shell and inspect as much as you can before each trip out. Always do a walk around before starting your travels each day, look for anything that may be loose check the tie downs at least every day more often when on rough roads or in high winds.
