Detailed You will need NovaBACKUP installed on a supported operating system. The machine that you install NovaBACKUP on to needs to have connectivity to either the vsphere server or the ESX(i) server. NovaBACKUP can be installed on the vsphere server itself if you want. NovaBACKUP can be installed on a Virtual Machine also. Version 4.1 and 5.0 of ESX(i) and vsphere licensed with the vstorage APIs are the currently supported versions of software that the VMware plug-in for NovaBACKUP will communicate with. In order to do incremental or differential backups the communication must go through vsphere. The machine that has NovaBACKUP installed on it also has to have enough local disk space to temporarily hold all the Virtual Machines that you want to backup in one backup job. Note: You cannot Install Program under Limited User Account IMPORTANT TECHNICAL INFORMATION NOTE: Version 12.x Disaster Recovery backups are not restorable with version 13.0 of the software. Notable resolved issues and usability enhancements:

Local backup Append needs to add date/time suffix even to the very first "media name" output dataset produced, and not only to the second and subsequent datasets produced Local backup improve Import logic so that it includes the true media/session name. If.sig file is incorrect in plugins, then backup cant complete properly and has lots of errors Install fails if the computer username contains an ampersand ( & ) character New log files and status not being sent from agent service to CMC until agent service is restarted. Replying NO to "missed backup job" popup reschedules ALL JOBS UI can take a long time to load and show the splash screen if logs of logs, indexes, cache files, other files in the ProgramData directory. Local backup when append is specified put the complete NBD dataset name including the date/time suffix into the LOG instead of what appears today. Local backups fix to avoid verify errors if/when file selection list gets out of sync with storage Avoid duplicate info/warn/error line logging when using the xsp device Backups that have a corrected error (such as a dropped connection or file resend) should not be marked as a failed backup. Add start/stop button to Management Server tab in the client default service. XML/APF parsing when doing backups since large amounts of files in the XML file slow down backup processing. Plug-in signatures are not being saved because of path length issues. Can't create a cache for Exchange 2010 plugin due to windows file patch character limitation. Change encryption type on local backup to 128bit AES encryption. Nsservice crashes when backing up to Storage Server and the connection drops and the client reconnects. Unable to save a backup job on certain machines. Wizards with a right side roll-down help/tip window show it getting cut short/chopped Changing the Temporary Files Directory in version 13.0 does not work. Scheduled Diaster Recovery backup should have an option to not overwrite the previous DR backup Limit configuration of xsp device to 1 device. Known Issues: When backing up from a vsphere server VM's contained in a Vapp container will not be able to be selected. Amazon S3 has a single file size limit of 5GB. Spanning of Tapes and CD/DVD/BD media is not supported from a scheduled backup. Silent installation of the client software will only install as an evaluation. 4 Technical Information: NovaBACKUP default installation: C:\Program Files\NovaStor\NovaStor NovaBACKUP Location for Profiles and Logs on Windows Vista, Windows 7, and Windows 2008: C:\ProgramData\NovaStor\NovaStor NovaBACKUP Location for Profiles and Logs on Windows XP, Windows 2003: C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\NovaStor\NovaStor NovaBACKUP TECHNICAL INFORMATION FOR CD/DVD BACKUPS To ensure compatibility with the widest range of hardware and OS platforms, backup with verify operations may cause the media to be ejected and reloaded (auto tray load on drives that support it) between the backup and verify operations. This is being done to make Windows recognize the newly written media. Please be aware of this condition and do not disturb or interfere with the media/drive during the eject as the tray may close immediately. Due to the nature of DVD-R, burning to this type of media often takes a long time to complete and may show a status of "Closing Session" for quite some time. This is normal. For this release, there must be a minimum amount of disk space available of 1.5 GB or more. Please remember that DVD media refers to a gigabyte of data as a pure 1 billion bytes, not the actual value which is 1,073,741,824 bytes. Therefore, the maximum amount of data that will fit on most current DVD media is about 4.4Gb. For Blu-Ray this number is roughly 25 GB, and for Dual Layer it is about 50 GB. Integral backup file splitting is automatically done by NovaBACKUP, therefore, no issues should be encountered regarding any file size limitations based on file system type. Backups which span more than one piece of media will require the entire set of media to be available during restore. This may change in future revisions to only require the necessary media for the files being restored. It is recommended that you turn off Auto-insert notification for CD-R/W and DVD devices when performing backups. With "Auto-insert" notification enabled while other software is writing, the operating system continuously tries to read the contents of the disc being recorded to determine the appropriate action to take.
