Purpose = to show to DWT members and funders where we have been working and what we have been doing. To track work locations and to identify gaps in the locations of conservation works. Also potentially to place on the website. GIS map of conservation action sites and landowner visits G2 Wild Places Habitat map digitising Creating a digital GIS map of the Phase 1 urban site habitat mapping which was produced by the Wild Places project Digitised data within GIS David Peace G3 Setting up a long term volunteer digitising project Researching and investigating a suitable method for a long term volunteer project (e.g. over 1yr) to create a Phase 1 habitat map of Co Durham using only GIS information and aerial photographs. a full coverage map showing the field by field habitats present in the county. Steps include how to digitise over aerial photographs, date of photographs, keeping track of areas of the county that have been covered. Purpose = to provide an estimate of how long the project might take to complete and to provide a step by step instruction booklet students to use Method for project Step by step instructions. Estimate of how long it takes per 1km square to do the survey G4 Compiling list of available free GIS data suitable for nature conservation use Compiling a check list of all currently free and available GIS data under research or noncommercial license or available to wildlife trusts and charities. List under heading types - e.g. social / environmental / pollution / population etc. Purpose = to ensure that DWT uses all available GIS data. To highlight to other Wildlife Trusts the range of data currently available for use in conservation projects. Table of data in word format G5 Landscape + membership services Where to see wildlife in County Durham Produce 1 composite map of the best locations to see wildlife in county Durham colour coded or labelled by either species or season. Also 4 individual maps, 1 for each season showing locations to see wildlife. GIS map of wildlife watching location

Purpose = to promote to the public and DWT members ways of achieving conservation and to be able to direct members of the public who phone us up to our website for further detailed information. Purpose = to ensure that DWT is aware of other ongoing conservation project to learn from them, to be aware of up to date methods and to be aware of all funding organisations Opportunity mapping Listing current biodiversity opportunity mapping projects Wildlife Trusts, Natural England and Environment Agency to categorise and discuss the methods used Purpose = to provide a resource for DWT when we undertaken biodiversity opportunity mapping so that we can choose and select available methods and learn from other previous projects Durham Wildlife Trust conservation Calculating our land area of reserves and species as proportion of the total in Durham (GIS + ) Where to watch wildlife in County Durham Project to compile a list of the best location to see particular wildlife in county Durham - need to draw up a list of species, species groups, and habitats. Research and investigate the locations where each occurs, list who owns site, highlight those owned by DWT, is there visitor facilities?, car park? etc, when is best time to visit to see each feature. Consult local experts / and GIS records then - List all in a table ready to produce a map. Michael Rogers?

Sources material and copies of any references and websites / Julie V2 General Funding development volunteer research To complete on line applications and adverts to research the relative need / desire for different types of volunteer activity potentially carried out by the trust e.g. bring in to compile level of interest statistics for use in future funding bids. V3 General Member and visitor surveys and research Research methods to find why members of the public are interested in the work of the trust, the best methods to communicate our work to them via leaflets, locations etc, etc, - marketing and publicity style and how to get them more involved in our work. Potentially design a questionnaire or articles to be sent to members / public to request ides initiatives / projects or schemes or particular locations with the County to benefit from conservation. V4 Project planning V5 Funding / project partners V6 Ecologist / planning applications Project planning volunteer To meet with members of staff to discuss potential future conservation project ideas (to be initiated in 2 + yrs time). To research similar projects in other Wildlife Trusts and Local Authorities around the country, contact other Trusts for advice / methods and documents and to then put together a project plan outlining how the project could be delivered e.g. timescale / costs etc. Research / investigate novel project partners and funders Consider the range of potential future projects at the Trust (see V4) then research current work conducted by other Wildlife Trusts. Review all potential new / novel project partners and funding sources that have not yet been explored by Durham Wildlife Trust. Eg health / European / etc. Volunteer ecologist / planning application officer conjunction with the Landscape Co-ordinator devise a procedure to assess and reply to priority planning applications that may have wildlife implications in the local authority areas covered by the Trust.
