4 Founder s Day Since its establishment by the Board of Regents in 1974, Atlanta Metropolitan College has served an important college access mission in the University System of Georgia, serving the people of Atlanta and south Atlanta. Those who helped to establish this institution 35 years ago certainly should take great pride in what has been accomplished. But more importantly, all of us should be motivated by what Atlanta Metropolitan is accomplishing today and is poised to achieve in the future. Under its current leadership, starting with President Gary McGaha and extending throughout the college, Atlanta Metropolitan has been reenergized. The College has new programs, a new spirit and is drawing an excited new generation of students into its classrooms. To the founders of Atlanta Metropolitan, I say well done. To all those involved in guiding the College today, I say, on behalf of the Board of Regents and the entire University System, congratulations and thanks. The seeds planted in our early years have produced a bounty of excellence that has become beneficial to Atlanta and all mankind. The 35th Anniversary is clearly a time to reflect on the successes of the past, the activities of the present and the unabashed goals of the future.
