1 School s finished... Where will you go? Free Scholarship available - see inside for details Professional, Practical, Proven
2 What is the Accounting Technician qualification? Accounting Technicians are highly skilled accounting staff who work in a wide range of finance roles from entry positions right up to senior management level. They play an important part in variety of sectors from manufacturing companies to local and central government, financial services companies and accountancy practices. To become a qualified Accounting Technician you need to complete: 2 years study (passing a total of 8 exams) 2 years relevant work experience You can study full-time, part time, or by distance learning and there are over 80 colleges around Ireland you can choose from. Who can do the qualification? The entry requirements to become an Accounting Technician are considerably less than a lot of third level courses. You just need to have one of the following: Republic of Ireland: Leaving Certificate with 5 passes in Ordinary Level subjects (including English and Maths or Accounting) Northern Ireland: 1 A Level or 2 AS Levels with grades in English and at least one subject from Mathematics or Accountancy not lower than grade C at GCSE level. Applied Leaving Certificate students should contact the Registrar (register@accountingtechniciansireland.ie) directly for advice on eligibility. You apply directly to us which means no CAO and no worrying about points! It s also not necessary to have previously studied Accounting or other business-related subjects at school. Why should I do it? The Accounting Technicians Ireland qualification is a flexible, highly recognised qualification that opens up endless opportunities for you. There are fantastic job opportunities! From major international companies, to small local businesses, every organisation needs accounting staff. Indeed, almost 95% of our members are employed. It s not all work either though. Many of our colleges organise social events for students and our district societies have regular events for our members.
3 What happens when I finish the course? In addition to passing our exams, you will also need two years relevant work experience to complete the qualification. Some students study part-time while they complete their work experience so you can become fully qualified in just two years! Lots of students go on to do further study and become professional accountants after they finish. When you ve passed your exams you can register to study with other accountancy bodies such as Chartered Accountants Ireland, ACCA, CIMA, or CPA. These all offer significant exemptions to our graduates from their exams. Once you re qualified the sky is the limit. Our members work in a huge range of industries, in locations across the world. What do I pay? As a student you will pay for: Registration and exam fees Course manuals Tuition (paid directly to the college you choose to study with)* It s possible to study for the Accounting Technician qualification for just 1,300 per year including all professional fees to Accounting Technicians Ireland and college tuition*. (A stepped payment plan is available from Accounting Technicians Ireland which allows you to pay your professional fees in 4 installments). That's almost 1,000 less than the cost of the current third level registration charges for 2012/2013 and only a quarter of what you pay per year for a degree course in some private colleges. *Tuition fees vary from college to college How do I apply? Registration for the Accounting Technicians Ireland course will open in July Step 1: Register directly with Accounting Technicians Ireland. This can be done online through our website or by posting in an application form. Step 2: Register with the college you want to study with. There are colleges all over Ireland so have a look on our website to see where your nearest college is. If you have any questions, please contact us and we d be happy to help you.
