7 Marshall of Cambridge One of the largest family owned companies in the country established over 100 years ago turnover in excess of 1.1bn. Profit 12.1m. Over 4,500 employees worldwide and 2,200 employees in Cambridge. In Cambridge, Marshall creates a further approximate 9,000 jobs in the service industry. The net worth to the Cambridge Community through the jobs of Marshall is worth about 150million per year. Marshall train 20% of all apprentices in the Aerospace Industry in the UK and take on 25 graduate trainees each year. Five employees awards for 60 years of service, 30 for 50 years, 231 for 40 years and 679 for 30 years of service awarded in total. Sponsor four Cambridge schools, a visiting Professor of Sustainable Architecture, purchased valuable rainforest in Borneo to help protect endangered species and participate in a wide range of community projects and charitable donations of over 100,000 per annum.

17 MAY 2013 THE FIRST QUALITY PANEL Assessed against the four Cs: Community, Connectivity, Character and Climate Conclusion: The Panel highly commended the current strategy and proposals for the Wing development. In particular praising; the iterative process and community engagement work that has been undertaken so far to reach this stage of design, the approach to the long-term management of the scheme, proposed relationship with the existing communities, setting up of art steering group, and early delivery of key social and community infrastructure.

20 AUGUST 2013 THE SECOND QUALITY PANEL The Panel commended the current strategy and proposals for the Wing development. In particular they praised the changes that had been made and analysis undertaken which took into account issues raised by the Panel in the May review. The Panel made the following specific recommendations: Develop a strategic delivery vehicle. Communicate Marshalls approach, agenda and aims for fostering a sense of community. Test Marshalls aspirations against the emerging physical framework. Undertake a social gap analysis for the Fison Road estate Thought should be given to the sports pitches being recognised as a destination better integrated into the development. Seek to integrate the allotments into the development. Consider moving the retail uses to capture passing trade on Newmarket Road. Develop links or greenways to enhance the various and different quality green spaces, Reconsider Beta Square in relation to the design and functioning of car dealerships, the local neighbourhood centre and open space provision Be rigorous in the development of streets as places, not roads dominated by cars.
