As a result of more than a decade of work on real problems, many models have been developed, implemented using C, C++ and Java, and deployed in the following industries: military, semi-private jets, railroads, tracking companies, and package delivery companies. Mastered the state of the art Operations Research techniques like Linear Programming, Non-Linear Programming, Integer Programming, Dynamic Programming, Approximate Dynamic programming, Column Generation, Lagrangian Relaxation, and Tabu Search and know how to use them to solve large scale problems. Worked on helping our sponsors to analyze problems, recommended the right solution approach using Operations Research techniques, and estimated the resources required to accomplish the project. 1
2 Belgacem Bouzaïene-Ayari 2 Know how to deal with data collection problems, how to interpret the results suggested by OR models, and how to successfully lead projects through the different phases until user acceptance. Developed visualization tools using C++ and Java that are used to analyze and debug the results of dynamic OR models. Worked on forecasting tools to estimate stochastic supplies and/or demands that may be used as input to optimization models. Have a deep knowledge of key optimization software like ILOG CPLEX. 05/ /1997 Research Position, CIRANO Centre de Recherche sur les Transports and Centre Interuniversitaire de Recherche en Analyse des Organisations (CIRANO), Montréal, Canada Worked on developing an Intelligent Market Project for the Ministry of Forestry of Québec. 12/ /1996 Post-Doctoral Position Centre de Recherche sur les Transports, Montréal, Canada Parallel implementation of a dynamic traffic assignment model in C++ and PVM on several Sun Sparc stations running under Unix. Supervisor: Professor Michel Gendreau Development, implementation and testing of solution algorithm for the transit assignment problem in large scale networks. A real case has been solved. 3 Belgacem Bouzaïene-Ayari 3 Samba, L A TEX, L A TEX 2ε, AMS-L A TEX DEVELOPED APPLICATIONS: LRM Version 2: An updated version of LRM V.1 written in Java and used by the Norfolk Southern railroad. This system has been developed to help the company plan its fleet of locomotives at the strategic, tactical and real-time levels. DRMS Version 2: An updated version of DRMS V.1 written in Java. This version takes advantage of the Java multithreading comp abilities and uses state of the art memory management techniques allowing the writing of CPU and memory efficient scalable applications. Flight Simulator: AMC: DRMS Version 1: DCS: CDM: Pilot View Version 5: An optimizing flight simulator developed the help NetJets, the largest operator in the fractional jet business, answer strategic business questions by doing what-if studies using the simulator. The simulator models the movements of the following three resource layers: crews, aircrafts and customers. An Air Mobility Command software written in Java and using the DRMS library. This software models the Air Mobility Command problem in the military field, where a fleet of aircrafts is used to cover a set of tasks at different airfields, as a dynamic programming problem and solved it using approximate techniques. Several of these techniques have been developed in order to allow solving large scale problems without compromising the solution quality. A Dynamic Resource Management System developed in Java. This system implements the state of the art techniques that have been developed in the approximate dynamic programming field. The system is a Java library that can be used to model any resource management problem as a dynamic system and code it using the DRMS library with minimum effort. Distributed Computing System software written in Java. This system uses the Remote Method Invocation (RMI) in the Java programming language to help build distributed computing programs that can run on a number of independent machines possibly running different operating systems. A Car Distribution Model (CDM) software written in Java and used as a tool by a major rail road company in the US (Norfolk Southern) to help manage their fleet of empty box cars. The software stretches approximate dynamic programming techniques to solve a large scale dynamic programming problem which consists of assigning a fleet of more than 4000 empty cars to customers located in over 400 locations over a predetermined planning horizon of several weeks. In most cases, the solution produced by the model is near optimal (99% of optimality). The company is running the software on a daily basis and the solution produced by the model is used in the car fleet management process. This software is an upgrade of Pilot View Version 4. The software has been written in Java with a number of new functionalities and new features. The graphics capabilities have also been considerably improved.
4 Belgacem Bouzaïene-Ayari 4 Pilot View Version 4: LRM: DLP: Generic GUI software that can used to visualize, analyze and debug solutions produced by optimization models for transportation systems. The software has three modules: Pilot Flow (animates the movement of flows in the system), Pilot Tour (displays resource types and decisions of resource allocation sub-problems) and Pilot Graph (displays the evolution of flows over time at selected locations). An adaptive dynamic programming system for real-time locomotive management for rail freight transportation. A Dynamic Load Planning system developed for Yellow Freight Corporation. The software simulates the trailer loading and dispatching system used by the corporation. HONORS: Nomination for the INFORMS Best Thesis Prize. Prize of the Association Québécoise du Transport et des Routes (AQTR), Tunisian Government Fellowship: (undergraduate studies). Tunisian Government Fellowship: (M.Sc.A. studies).
