1 CU77 - Bachelor of Onwards To satisfy the requirements of the award, students must complete 30 courses/192 units of credit. Made up of 24 unit points of level 1 psychology courses, 72 unit points of level 2 and level 3 psychology courses, 48 unit points of level 4 psychology courses and 48 unit points of elective courses. PSYC12048 and PSYC12047 are compulsory courses. In addition to these two courses, a minimum of three courses must be chosen from the following list. If you choose to do 5 Level 2 courses, you will need to do an additional elective to make up the 8 courses for the year. Doing an additional elective in Year 2 means that you will have one less elective to complete in Year 3. In total, there are 8 elective courses in the program. If a student takes only the minimum 5 psychology courses at Level 2, they must take 7 courses at Level 3 in order to make the full load of 12 psychology courses at Levels 2 and 3. 3 Entry into 4 th Year After completing three year full-time studies or equivalent within the program, students whose Grade Point Average (GPA) for all Level 2 and Level 3 psychology courses is less than 5 will exit the B of program with a BSc (Psych) degree, provided all the requirements for BSc (Psych) are met. Please refer to the program details for BSc (Psych) for the requirements: Students who have satisfied the above criteria for the first three levels (including the required electives) and have a GPA of 5 and above for Level 2 and Level 3 psychology courses will have the option to either proceed to the fourth year studies of B of or to exit with a BSc (Psych). For the purposes of entry into 4 th year, calculation of GPA will be based on the best 12 courses at Level 2 and Level 3 (adhering to the requirements outlined above regarding number at 2nd and 3rd year and compulsory courses). Those students who take the exit award and later decide they wish to take the Honours year will need to apply for a competitive place in one of our stand-alone 4 th year psychology programs. 4 Electives The Bachelor of (CU77) requires you to take (and pass) eight elective courses (or 48 units of credit). These courses can be at any level (i.e., 8 at first year level or a mix of first, second and third year level courses), if you are considering developing a solid foundation in a discipline/subject outside of (e.g., Sociology or Social Work) you will want to take a mix of first, second and third year courses in that discipline. Always check to see what pre-requisites are listed for second and third year courses first as many require successful completion of a specific first year course, this is a good way to help decide in which order to take electives. There are no rules about what electives you should take to complement your studies. Some students take electives that will help them in their chosen area of (e.g., Sports and Exercise Science or Nutrition topics for those wanting to be an Exercise Psychologist, Education courses for those wanting to be School Psychologists, Human Resource Management courses for those interested in HR or Organisational ), others take electives based on their interests (e.g., Accident Investigation, History, Biology). It is up to you to choose, and with eight electives in your degree you have plenty of scope to try out different subjects. At this stage (your first year of study) it is not a bad idea to keep your options open so go ahead try out a subject, if it turns out to be not quite your cup of tea next year (or Term) choose a different subject area! Keep in mind that you may wish to pick up the optional courses that are outside of the core, compulsory, courses. The course PSYC11010 Fundamentals of, which was originally developed for non- majors, has been approved as an elective for CU77 students while this course will contain a certain amount of overlap with PSYC11008 and PSYC11009 it will approach the subject matter from a different, more applied perspective. PSYC courses that are outside of the core, accredited, sequence count as electives (NB: the third year PSYC courses will be counted within your GPA for entry to 4 th year). As a general rule course codes with a 11XXX code (e.g., PSYC11008, SOCL11055) are first year, 12XXXX (e.g., PSYC12010) are second year and 13XXX (e.g., PSYC13015) are third year level. Please check the handbook entry for each course and carefully note mode of offering and whether a residential school and/or on-campus tutorials or labs are required before enrolling in the course.
