1 Nordland meets Nordkap (Via Arctica) circa 2200 km in 7 days Day 2 : Your first day takes you from ICEHOTEL via one of Scandinavia s most beautiful roads. Along the Torne Träsk lake you travel past Lapporten, one of Swedish Lapland s best known panoramas. At the border you leave Sweden and enter into Norway. The nature constantly changes between mountains and fjords. Along the Ofotfjord you arrive in Tromsö, the worlds northernmost university, a vibrant and rich city far north of the Polar Circle. Day 3 : From Tromsö your journey takes you north on a very varied part of the E6 road. The glacier Okstind is just one of many natural landmarks along the way. Today s goal is Alta at the Atlantic coast. Day 4 : Along Norway s third largest fjord, the Porsangerfjord, you continue straight to the Nordkap. The chanses of fog-free view is best during the day. After this highlight you travel to the world s northernmost city, Hammerfest, which is the best place to see the midnight sun (if you haven t already seen it during your trip). Day 5 : After the endless expanses of the Finnmark, the landscape shifts again, and there are more woods and lakes. End goal is Ivalo, the main town of Finnish Lapland. Day 6 : From Ivalo you go through the Sami s biggest grazing land for their reindeers, so the chances are good to see these animals. This is a good opportunity to make a stop at one of the many lakes along the road to make a picnic. Today s goal is Muonio. Day 7 : From Muonio you go back to Kiruna. Along they way you travel along the Lainio, Torne and Kalix river. Back in Kiruna the church, city hall, and of course the world s biggest iron ore mine, are worth a visit. 2 Lapland and Lofoten circa 1620 km in 7 days Day 2 : From Jukkasjärvi you go south on the E45, through Swedish Lap- lands endless forests and expanses. On todays trip you also come through Jokkmokk, which invites you to stay for a while with its many art and handicraft stores. Todays goal is Arvidsjaur. Day 3 : From Arvidsjaur, a charming town deep in the woods of Swedish Lapland, you continue on towards Arjeplog. Here the landscape changes, och the woods switch place with the treeless mountains. You cross the polar circle, and continue on towards Norway and the Atlantic coast. Day 4 : At the ferries leave from Bodö (if a different departure time is wanted, you can rebook this on the evening before. Other departures are at and 15.00). You travel over the wide Vestfjord to Moskenes which is part of the Lofoten island group (arrival ca ). You travel via Leknes and Kabelvåg to Svolvaer. A visit to the village Henningsvaer is recommended. From Fiskebol you travel with ferry to Vesterålen. This ferry cannot be booked in advance, and has to be payed at location (125 NOK for one car with 2 passengers). From Melbu (25 min travel time) you only have a couple more kilometers to the cradle of the Hurtigruten, Stokmarknes. Here you can visit the Hurtigruten Museum. Day 5 : From Stokmarknes your trip continues on to Sund in Sortland. From here you can go directly to Harstad, but a detour to the island of Andöya is highly recommended. The west coast with the beautiful fishing village Bleik is a gem among the many fascinating nature experiences that can be found on Lofoten/Vesterålen. From Andenes you travel to the biggest of the islands, Hinnöya. Todays goal is Harstad, the cultural and scientific centrum of the region. Day 6 : From Harstad the trip takes you to the Ofotfjord, and from there into the mountains. Swedens most beautiful pa- noramic road goes via Torne Träsk and Europes oldest national park, Abisko, to Kiruna and ICEHOTEL in Jukkasjärvi. Day 7 : Attractions in Kiruna include the beautiful church, the city hall with its exhibition about the future relocation of the city center, and of course the worlds biggest iron ore mine. 3 Lapland - The land of the midnight sun circa 2760 km in 13 days Day 2 : The trip begins and ends in Jukkasjärvi. The first day of the trip takes you through Europe s largest municipality, and you get a sense of the endless expanses of Swedish Lapland. The trip takes you all the way to the Muonio river, at the border to Finland. In Finish Muonio the Harriniva Hotel resort in located. Day 3 : The Muonio River flows into the Torne River. The rivers in this region are some of the last unregulated rivers in Europe and they all have drinkable water. The tour of the day also takes you through Pallastunturi National Park, before you reach the North Finnish tundra at Ivalo. Steppe and heathland with numerous lakes and forests characterize this region. Day 4 : Today you switch from Finnish Lapland to the Norwegian Finnmark, which is named after the original Finnish population that lived here. The Finnish landscape with its many lakes is exchanged for a mountainous, elongated Norwegian fjord country. Norway s third largest fjord is the goal of today. At Lakselv you reach Porsanger Fjord. Between the fjord and the village Walsund Skaidi, which is an ideal base for excursions to the North Cape and Hammerfest. Day 5 : Visit Nordkap, the northernmost point of Europe, reachable by car. Here at 71 latitude you have a fantastic view from the 304 meter high cliff. Day 6 : Hammerfest is the worlds northernmost town. The barren landscape, which makes one think of Lord of the Rings, is fascinating. Through the large amount of natural gas exploration in the Arctic Ocean, this is an steadily growing city on the edge of Europe. From the panorama café Turistua you can look out over the sea, and follow the midnight sun, which can still be seen at the beginning of August. And even after that, the night will remain bright for many hours. Day 7 : Through the gracing land of the reindeers, the trip for the day takes you to the Arctic coast at Alta. Here, a visit to the rock carvings at Alta Fjord, which since 1985 can be found on the UNESCO World Heritage list, is recommended. The coast road impresses with its dramatic views and after two fjord crossings you will reach the university city of Tromso, a metropolis north of the Arctic Circle. Day 8 : The journey along Bålsfjorden offers amazing views, and takes you to the Atlantic coast s islands. You will reach Sørrolnæs, where the fjord ferry will take you directly to the areas main town, Harstad, located on Norway s largest island, Hinnøya. Day 9 : From Harstad the trip goes to Vesterålen islands. Andøya island is worth visiting. Andenes is known for its abundance of sperm whales that can be found off the coast. 4 Lapland - The land of the midnight sun Day 10 : Again, the landscape is changing. The nature around the island Andøya feels alomst unreal. Clear water with white sand beaches provide a sense of the South Sea. This is in stark contrast to the bare mountain landscape. On the west side sits the small town Bleik, with a beautiful coastline. Day 11 : A fjord ferry takes you to the Lofoten islands. Svolvær is the archipelago s largest city. Here one encounters tourists from all over the world. Continuing along the south coast you come to Henningsvær, a small artists village. Here you can enjoy the special atmosphere of a small artist café. The tour takes you all the way to Sortland, and back to Stokmarknes. In Andenes the local museum is worth a visit. Day 12 : Yet again the nature is changing. Drom the Norweigan islands and fjords the trip takes you into the Swedish mountain landscape, along Sweden s most beautiful road. Lapporten marks the beginning of Europe s oldest national park. Overnight stay in Abisko. Day 13 : Along Torne Träsk you travel back to Kiruna. The round trip ends at ICEHOTEL in Jukkasjärvi. A visit to the mine is recommended. Overnight stay at ICEHOTEL. 5 Lapland & Hurtigruten circa 1800 km in 7 days Day 1 : The roundtrips first leg takes you from ICEHOTEL along one of Scandinavia s most beautiful roads. Along the lake Torne träsk you pass Lapporten, one of the best known landmarks in Lapland. Overnight stay at Hotell Fjället in Björkliden. Day 2 : This day s leg can be done in multiple ways. One alternative is the direct route along E10 to Stamsund. Another is going over Narvik along E6, and instead take some fjord-ferries. Today s goal is Stamsund, where the Hurtigruten ferry leaves the harbour at 7.30pm. Day 3 : Arrival in Tromsø 3.30pm. From Tromsø the tour goes northwards along a very varied part oft E6. The glacier Okstind is just one oft he many scenic attractions along the way. Todays goal ist he glacial sea town Alta. Day 4 : Driving along Norway s third biggest fjort, the Porsangerfjord, you go directly to Nordkap. The chance to have a great view of the cliff is best during the day. After this highlight you ll continue on to Honningsvåg, on the northern tip of Norway, one of the many harbours the Hurtigruten ferry stops in. The ferry leaves the harbour at 3.15pm. Day 5 : Arrival in Vadsø at 8.00am. The main town in the norwegian Finnmark, where the many finnish immigrants have had a strong influence in the town s history. On E6 you drive southwards along the border to Finland. Today s goal is Kautokeino, the cultural capital for the Sámi that live in this area. Day 6 : On the trip s last day you go back to Sweden, and from there to ICEHOTEL in Jukkasjärvi.
