3 1 Introduction 1.1 This document This document describes how to install iprotect and the required Linux distribution (ipuntu) on a Virtual Machine. There are many virtualization products, but iprotect is supported on VMware and Hyper-V, the 2 most common virtualisation products in professional environments. 1.2 System requirements iprotect needs a virtual machine with at least: 1 CPU, 2000 MHz (64-bit) 8 GB memory 1 Network adapter 100 GB Disk Note! Note! Note! When video must be stored on the local (virtual) server 100gb might be not enough disk size. The disk size for storage of video depends on several items, like the amount of camera s, storage time, quality and frame rate. Please contact our customer support for more information. The MAC address of the network adapter should be fixed. In Hyper-V only use ONE virtual processor. 1.3 Distribution The ipuntu distribution is Linux based 64 Bit. 3

4 2 Installation 2.1 VMware In VMWare a new virtual machine must be created with the New Virtual Machine Wizard. Choose the Typical installation and give the virtual machine a meaning full name. 4

5 Choose a datastore for the virtual hard disk of the iprotect server. Choose Linux as the Guest Operating System and select an Ubuntu Linux 64-bit version, press Next. 5

6 Select the number of virtual CPU s. The minimum is 1, but preferably select 2 here. Select 8192 MB as the amount of memory allocated to the machine. 6

7 Add 1 network interface of type E1000 that should be connected on at power on. Finally review the settings for this virtual machine and press finish. 7

8 The virtual machine is now created. Before powering up the new virtual machine: Open the settings again for this virtual machine. Go the the tab Options Select boot options. Select the option so that the virtual machine will boot in the BIOS setup screen. Press OK Power on the virtual machine. 8

9 9 Open the console for this virtual machine

10 Go to the Boot menu Move the CD-ROM drive to the top of the boot order. Connect the ipuntu 64-bit iso, or the ipuntu 32-bit iso to the CD-ROM drive. In the BIOS console press F10 Confirm the changes. The virtual machine will now boot from the ISO. Please continue with chapter

11 2.2 Hyper-V In Hyper-V a new virtual machine must be created with the New Virtual Machine Wizard. Give the virtual machine a meaningful name Select a location for the virtual hard disk of the iprotect server. Allocate the proper amount of memory to this virtual machine. 11

12 Connect to the correct virtual network. Allocate a virtual disk with at least 100 GB of disk space: 12

13 Choose do not install an operating system. We will do that later. Finally review the settings for this virtual machine and press finish. The virtual machine is now created, before powering up the new virtual machine: Open the settings for this virtual machine. Add a Legacy Network adapter. 13

15 15 Make sure that the network adapter has a static MAC address in the range Minimum Mac Address = d Maximum Mac Address = d-01-8F-FF

16 16 Remove the existing Network adapter by pressing the remove button.

17 Make sure that de CD is the first boot device. Make sure that the DVD/CD player is linked to the correct ISO file. 17 Press OK and start the virtual machine.

18 The virtual machine will now boot from the ISO. Please, continue with chapter ipuntu installation andconfiguration When the machine boots from the ipuntu it will show the following screen: Choose English as the language and on the screen with Install ipuntu press enter again. The installation of the Linux OS will now begin. This might take some time. 18

19 After the installation of the Linux operating system, the network settings of the virtual machine should be configured correctly. The default IP-address of the virtual machine will be Probably, this IP-address can not be reached from the physical network, so the correct IPaddress should be configured from the command line. In the console of the virtual machine, log in as the user atlas. Give the following command: ifconf77 eth0 xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx mmm.mmm.mmm.mmm yyy.yyy.yyy.yyy where: xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx = the new IP-address of the iprotect server mmm.mmm.mmm.mmm = the network mask yyy.yyy.yyy.yyy = the new netnumber of the subnet to which the iprotect server is connected. Also the default router should be configured. Give the command: defrouter77 xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx eth0 where: xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx = the IP-address of the default gateway Now the ServerBox of the iprotect server can be opened in the web browser and the iprotect software can be installed. 19
