2 About the Department The Department of Automobile Engineering was started in the academic year with an annual intake of 60 students. The Department follows the syllabus as per Anna University regulations. It has excellent infrastructural facilities with well experienced and dedicated team of faculty members. The objective of the Department of Automobile Engineering is to provide quality education in terms of inspiring teachers, state of the art facilities, and facilitate students to interact with experts from the academics and the industry The department has active SAEINDIA collegiate club and arranges guest lectures by eminent personalities from major automotive industries and reputed educational institutions. It has regular interactions with various automotive companies of our country. The Department is working on Bio-Diesel Research Project in collaboration with Innovative project Cell of the Institution. The department has successfully conducted a National Conference on Advances in Automotive Technology in July 2009 with more than 40 participants from all over India. About the SDP Knowledge in material is very essential for engineers as the materials have a bearing on the cost and strength of the products. The object of this programme is to provide relevant information on the important aspects of the recent advances in various engineering materials to the faculty members. The programme will cover the fundamentals and recent developments in the following materials: 1. Nano Materials 2. Composite Materials 3. Smart Materials 4. Bio Materials 5. Magnetic Materials 6. Ceramic Materials 7. Superconducting Materials 8. Automotive Materials 9. Thermal Engineering Materials 10 Fracture of materials 11 Material testing After the completion of the above staff development programme, the participants will get first knowledge on the various engineering materials and the recent advances in them. This will help them to carry out the research in the area of materials and also develop new materials for the industrial products. Attending this programme also will help them to teach the PG subjects.
