Rehearsals are usually Mondays through Thursdays from 7:00 p.m. to 10:00 or 11:00 p.m. with some weekend rehearsals scheduled as needed. 5 Terrance McNally s SHOW TBA AUDITION INFORMATION SHEET Welcome, and thank you for auditioning. Please do the following: relax, smile, breathe, ask questions, and most of all have fun auditioning. This show is a musical and will be directed by Dawn Troupe-Masi. No roles are pre-cast or doublecast. You must be available for all performances. Stage 1 and Ohlone College Theatres are non-profit organizations. We exist due to the many hours and efforts of our wonderful volunteer base and Board of Directors. Because of this, the cast of this show will be asked to work on the mandatory set strike on Sunday, July 24th. You may also be asked to provide your own make-up, shoes and special personal costume pieces. Auditions: Friday, April 8 from 7 10 pm - Newark Memorial Theatre Saturday, April 9 from 10 3 pm - Newark Memorial Theatre Sunday, April 10 from 12 4 pm - Newark Memorial Theatre Callbacks: Monday, April 18 th from 6 10pm Ohlone College Theatre, Mission Blvd Fremont, CA You will be notified by /phone before Tuesday 4/12 if you are required to attend callbacks. Please write clearly your home or cell phone number(s) and address on the Audition Form of where we can reach you in person or leave a message. Those who are cast will be contacted within one week of callbacks. 6 Character Breakdown Booker T. Washington - Incredibly intelligent social activist. He is an eloquent and articulate gentleman with no patience for Black Americans leading less than exemplary lives. Gender: male Age: 45 to 55 Vocal range top: Eb4 Vocal range bottom: D3 Coalhouse Walker Jr. - A proud and talented pianist. He is sophisticated, with a romantic demeanor and gentle heart though an intimidating build. African-American. Gender: male Age: 25 to 35 Vocal range top: A4 Vocal range bottom: G2 Emma Goldman - Social activist. With an unapologetically demanding presence, she is a leader and powerful woman. Russian- American. Gender: female Age: 35 to 45 Vocal range top: D5 Vocal range bottom: B3 Evelyn Nesbit - Beautiful vaudeville performer. Thrust into the limelight after the high profile murder of her lover, the entire world is her stage. Gender: female Age: 18 to 21 Vocal range top: D5 Vocal range bottom: B3 Father - Mother's professionally successful husband. Fancying himself an amateur explorer, he is commanding and attractive. Enjoys being the family breadwinner. Gender: male Age: 30 to 45 Vocal range top: F4 Vocal range bottom: A2 Grandfather - Mother's very conservative father. He is a retired professor and easily irritated by nearly everything. Gender: male Age Harry Houdini - The famous magician. With dark features and notable physical ability, he stands as a symbol of the 'American Dream.' Hungarian-American. Gender: male Age: 25 to 35 Vocal range top: G4 Vocal range bottom: E3 Little Boy - Mother and Father's son. He is open-hearted and curious with inexplicable clairvoyance. Never passes judgement on others. Gender: male Age: 8 to 12 Vocal range top: D5 Vocal range bottom: E4 Little Girl - Tateh's daughter. A confused and vulnerable child in a brand-new home, she is guarded and shy. Loves her father very much. Latvian-American. Gender: female Age: 7 to 10 Vocal range top: Bb4 Vocal range bottom: C4 Mother - The consummate wife and mother. A kind woman with incredible moral fiber. Refined, intelligent, and graceful. She is accepting of others. Gender: female Age: 30 to 40 Vocal range top: F#5 Vocal range bottom: G3 Sarah - Washwoman. Sarah is beautiful and filled with a strong will to live fueled by an innocent spirit. Falls deeply in love with Coalhouse after much resistance. African-American. Gender: female Age: 20 to 25 Vocal range top: F#5 Vocal range bottom: G#3 Tateh - The haggard artist and father. He wears the trials and tribulations of his past on his sleeve, but remains optimistic. Full of genuine drive and heart. Latvian-American. Gender: male Age: 35 to 45 Vocal range top: F#4 Vocal range bottom: Bb2 Younger Brother - Mother's younger brother. With his wiry frame and obsessive personality, he is an erratic soul. Influenced greatly by Goldman's teachings. Gender: male Age: 20 to 25 Vocal range top: F#4 Vocal range bottom: B2 Large Ensemble - Baseball Fans; Coalhouse Supporters; Firemen; Harlem Citizens, Immigrants To America; New Rochelle Citizens; Reporters; Vacationers
