1 LESSON 1 EQUIPMENT: 1 Handball per grup 4 cnes fr each grup f fur students. LESSON OUTCOME (S): Demnstrate dribbling skills. Apply passing and catching skills in a mdified game. Defend against a passed ball. BEFORE CLASS SET UP: Set Handballs in Hps arund perimeter f activity area Grids set-up fr grups f 6 ACTIVITY (Time) HEALTH RELATED PHYSICAL ACTIVITY: Dribble Tag (10 Minutes) LESSON CONTENT Play space is a handball (basketball) curt (add a secnd curt if t crwded). Designate 4 students as taggers; taggers wear pinnies. Each student (including taggers) has a handball and is dribbling. On yur signal taggers attempt t tag as many students as pssible withut lsing cntrl f their handballs. If a tagger tags withut cntrl f the handball the tag desn t cunt. If a dribbler is tagged student must dribble arund the utside f the curt ne time. Cntinue fr 2 minutes then change taggers. Add taggers if the students are nt active enugh. ROLE OF ASSISTANT Assist with equipment. Clarify rules. Offer psitive feedback. Transitin Students return cnes t the perimeter. Students frm int grups f 6 These grups f 6 then frm 2 grups f 3 with ne ball each. ACTIVITY #1 Students frm grups f 6 and then divide int tw grups f 3. Each grup f 6 is assigned a grid and needs 2 handballs. Set Up grids fr next activity Direct students and explain activity as needed.

2 LESSON 1 2 n 1 Keep Away Designate ne persn t be in the middle (interceptr). On yur signal, the 2 utside students pass the handball t each ther withut the interceptr intercepting it r kncking it dwn. The interceptr stays in the middle until yu blw the whistle (after 1 minute) t rtate. All passes must be arund the interceptr and nt ver his r her head. Interceptr must guard nly the thrwer and be 3 feet away frm thrwer. Thrwer can pivt but cannt mve. Receiver practices making sharp cuts t get pen. Challenge: Interceptr scres a pint whenever a pass is nt cmpleted r when a pass is thrwn ver his r her head. Keep track f defensive pints nly. Prvide psitive feedback. Cngratulate imprvement. Activity #2 3 v. 3 3 Pass with Dribble Students need t return ne ball and play 3 v. 3 in the same grids. Object f the game is t cmplete 3 passes t 3 members f yur wn team. Rules: Student with the ball can nly dribble 3 times befre passing. N mre than 3 steps befre a dribble r pass is made. One pint fr each 3 cnsecutive catches. After third cmpleted pass, ball is placed dwn fr the ther team t begin. If the ball is incmplete in any way, it is awarded t ther team. Quickly discuss the negatives f fatty fds. Then 2-4 students are given a ndles; these students are the French Fries. Once tagged student sit r kneel dwn. Tw students practice making 3 passes and then ne shts n gal using the fllwing: Dribble, step and sht. Shter may nt step ver the restraining line int galie crease. Retriever stands behind target (cne) and cllects the ball. Shter and retriever exchange places. Repeat drill with 3 passes and a sht. Student scres ne pint each when he r she hits the cne. ACTIVITY (Time) ORGANIZATION / MANAGEMENT / SAFETY ROLE OF ASSISTANT HEALTH RELATED PHYSICAL ACTIVITY: Olympic Cuntries Tag (10 Minutes) Students spread ut between cnes. Select 2-3 students t be taggers. Taggers begin game by standing in middle f gym hlding a ndle. If a student is tagged he r she must name a cuntry within a 3 alligatr cunt, cunted by the tagger. If a cuntry cannt be named then that student becmes a tagger. Add additinal taggers if needed t make game mre challenging. Set up 20 x 20 grids using cnes. Explain directins. Free Thrw: A free pass frm ne ffensive player t a teammate which cannt be intercepted r blcked by a defender. It must be taken within 3 scnds f being awarded t the player. Rules: Out f bunds ball is put in play at the spt by the ppsing team with a thrw-in. Intrduce penalty thrw: A penalty thrw is taken by an ffensive player against the galie frm utside the gal crease restraining line. The player taking the free thrw must keep ne ft statinary and must the sht within 3 secnds. All ther players must stay utside the free thrw line except fr the galie wh defends against the sht. Rules fr Awarding Free Thrw: The fllwing infractins result in a free thrw frm the spt f the infractin. Hlding the ball fr lnger than 3 secnds. Running mre than 3 steps with the ball.
