4 Invest in Torino Piemonte An attractive place With France on its western border and Switzerland on its northern one, Piemonte is naturally endowed with a strategic position in Europe and the Mediterranean area, right at the crossroads of the main routes between the north and south, east and west. Thanks to its 1,000 km of motorways, 2,000 km of railways, its closeness to the Ligurian Sea and two international airports, Piemonte is an easily accessible place, ready to face up to the European market. Over 650 local units of foreign companies have already set up operations here, where the quality of life is a key factor. Piemonte offers a first class environment for living as well as doing business. There s plenty to suit everyone. Opportunities for leisure activities are plentiful and varied, with a rich choice of scenery and cultural attractions. Finally, Piemonte Agency supports and aids foreign companies in all stages of their investment project. The strength of the Euroregion Piemonte is part of the the Alps- Mediterranean Euroregion, an area with 17 million inhabitants, over E 490 billion GDP and exports equal to E 110 billion. As part of the European Union, companies located in Piemonte can take advantage of access to the world s richest consumer market of 497 million people, of which 330 adopt a single currency. Driving force in Europe With over 4 million inhabitants, a per capita income that is 14% above the European average and a solid economic structure, Piemonte produces 8% of Italy s national wealth and is one of Europe s driving forces. The strong industrial vocation of the region remains the rich soil from which innovation keeps springing up and growing.

In recent decades, Piemonte, traditionally the Italian centre of the automotive industry, has diversified its own economic structure, directing itself more and more toward sectors tied to the economy of knowledge. It focuses on R&D activities and invests in strategic sectors such as renewable energy, sustainable mobility, ICT, life sciences, logistics etc. New technologies are developed with the backing of major companies, as well as SMEs. Piemonte is the Italian region with the highest share of private R&D expenditure, and also leads in terms of patents registered at the European Patent Office. Top-ranking R&D centres Over 200 private and public R&D centres offer a network of top-quality skills and facilities. 6 The Regional Investment Contract: timing and funding Piemonte is the first and only region in Italy to have created and implemented an innovative financial tool, the Regional Investment Contract, to foster the internationalisation of the region through the attraction of investments. This is a negotiation tool exclusive to the Region, managed by Piemonte Agency, to assist the location of foreign companies and ones from other Italian regions: a form of aid to companies, that is implemented through the joint action of the institutions, public bodies and private companies that participate in the location process. Recipients small, medium-sized and large companies with foreign shareholders or ones from other Italian regions, which intend to locate an operational unit in Piemonte; local bodies, universities and research centres, science and technology parks and innovation hubs located in Piemonte, that contribute directly to new investments. Sectors all sectors according to EU regulations. Eligible initiatives creation of new locations for production or service activities, company headquarters, restructuring or reconversion of existing plants or re-activation of inactive plants, the creation of R&D centres, competency and design centres, laboratories; development of research projects.
7 Incentives and grants Guarantees rapidity and certainty of timing for administrative procedures; investment support with grants; commitment of the local authorities, universities and research centres involved, creation of infrastructures, R&D activities in collaboration with the company; assistance in all phases of the project. For further information on the Regional Investment Contract, contact: Piemonte Agency Commissioned by the Region, Piemonte Agency manages the Regional Investment Contract, which is stipulated between the Region and the company, provides its drafting and implementation and accompanies the foreign company through the entire negotiation phase: preliminary analysis of eligibility requirements verification of adherence to the strategic indications given by the regional government accompaniment in the negotiation stages, in the relations with public bodies and local authorities, and in the identification of local partners for the development of the project assistance in all the phases of implementation of the project monitoring and control of the obligations envisaged by the Contract. Piemonte Agency is the one-stop shop for companies that have an investment project in Piemonte. It gives the investor guarantees in terms of financial support and time scheduling for the project. In addition to the Regional Investment Contract, resources are available according to: ROP (Regional Operational Plan) : over half the funds are dedicated to R&D and innovation (innovation hubs, technology platforms, R&D projects etc.) with special focus on renewable energy and ITS (Intelligent Transport Systems); ROP ESF (European Social Fund): support for vocational and specialist training, retraining of personnel; Regional Law number 4/2006: aimed to support SMEs R&D and innovation programmes (public-private partnerships, collaboration with universities, science and technology parks, innovation hubs etc.); Regional Law number 34/2004: aimed to support R&D and innovation especially for collaborative research, technology platforms and internationalisation in the renewable energy sector; tax credit for the hiring of personnel for R&D; tax credit for reinvested earnings.
