14 Services. Export promotion. With its consulting concept «Export Step-by-Step» Osec accompanies Swiss and Liechtenstein SMEs into new markets. Consultancy Information. Osec s information offer serves as an initial orientation basis. It provides information free-of-charge on a large number of export issues. The website bundles information from Osec s global Osec network, offers news and study results. The ExportHelp Team consists of qualified specialists with many years of export experience and in-depth knowledge and who can answer initial enquiries about export projects. Enquiries that can be responded to immediately or need up to an hour s research time are free of charge. An initial response is guaranteed within 24 hours. Consultancy. Osec s consulting services encompass an examination of the concrete export plans with the SMEs. In individual free-of-charge consultations, export advisors and specialists from the target markets discuss the prospects of the export idea with the SMEs. Osec evaluates the potential target markets and their market structures, purchasing behaviour, legal framework conditions, regulations, customs, taxes etc. For the 14
15 actual realisation of export projects, Osec arranges contacts with partners locally who, for example, seek distributors for the SMEs, open offices or recruit personnel. Contacts. Osec s dense global network ensures that the right contacts are established swiftly and without fuss. Osec allows SMEs to talk with Swiss companies already successfully operating in the target market about their experiences; arranges valuable contacts with reliable business partners and persons familiar with the country and the sector; creates access to key decision makers at governments and authorities. Location promotion. Osec s measures to promote Switzerland as a business location contribute towards supporting the settlement of foreign companies in Switzerland. Central government and the cantons are responsible for coordinating the settlement of these companies. The task of Osec and the Swiss Business Hubs within this framework is to ensure a uniform appearance abroad, provide information on Switzerland, coordinate marketing activities and ensure smooth cooperation with the cantons. Import promotion. With the Swiss Import Promotion Programme (SIPPO) Osec supports SMEs from selected programme countries in accessing the Swiss and European markets and promotes production competitiveness in these countries. The main focus here is on conveying (market) information to importers in Europe and exporters in these countries, establishing and arranging trade relations between exporters and importers and offering market and product advice. This range of services includes supporting SMEs intending and able to export in so-called «matchmaking» at international trade fairs and on buying and selling missions. 15
16 Swiss Business Hubs The Swiss Business Hubs take over the central role of the Osec outposts. Located at the Trade and Economic Services of Swiss representations abroad or at the Swiss Chambers of Foreign Trade, they are a key component of the Osec services. Because of their official status Swiss Business Hubs can open doors to new markets for Swiss companies. After an initial consultation in Switzerland, Swiss Business Hubs are the next contact point for Osec in the relevant export country and represent business interests in Switzerland s growth and key markets. They are also responsible for overseas activities to promote Switzerland as a prime location for investment. 16

19 Membership. Osec advises, informs and creates networks. In 2011 Osec boasted 1,840 members export-focused SMEs, industry associations, chambers of industry and commerce and organisations promoting business locations. The targeted annual membership growth of 10% reflects the increased need for consulting services in a difficult market environment. In recent years, Osec has recorded an average membership growth of 15%. The event series «Osec-Member-Get-Together» offers members the opportunity for a mutual exchange of views and information on various export themes. Experts specialised in fields such as patent law, licensing, choice of business partner and cost savings in logistics are available for advice. Members profit from exclusive offers and attractive discounts for events and consulting services (as much as 25%) as well as for events and trade fairs. The member community offers an opportunity to forge contacts, share experiences and broaden each member s own network. Sector reports prepared by specialists are available to members free of charge and contain information on market trends and trading as well as opportunities and risks in the particular target market.
