2 BACKGROUND Learn to Coach the Spanish Way The RPT was founded and developed in Spain and has now trained more than 50,000 coaches worldwide in the past 20 years. The success of Spanish Tennis over this period of time is unparalleled and it is on this success that the teaching methods and systems of the RPT are based. Spain has not just produced a world-class player "every so often" but consistently over the years and this can only be done if there is a solid coaching programme throughout the country and a system that allows these coaches to develop their own players. The RPT is integral to this system in Spain, in fact all the private Tennis Academies in Spain use RPT coaches including Sanchez-Casal Academy and the Ferrero Academy, 19 of Spain s top 20 players are trained by RPT coaches including Tony Nadal, coach to Rafael Nadal, Antonio Cascales coach to Juan Carlos Ferrero and Davis Cup Captain Emilio Sanchez- Vicario. With this background and this success it is not surprising that the RPT is the fastest growing coaching organization in the world today. 3 Coaching Advanced Players Tennis continues to reach new levels of performance and as such the teaching of tennis must not only keep in touch but stay ahead of the game. The Academy Coaching course will ensure that coaches are shown the latest techniques and developments taking place in the tennis world with specific reference and detailed information from the leading Spanish and America Academies. The course is designed for coaches who are currently working with or aiming to work with advanced players. It also provides coaches a unique opportunity to gain European certification through the RPT, American qualification through the USPTA and be able to apply for Spanish Coaching Licence The course is very practical and gives the basis for a development framework and planning of programmes and sessions for training at this level. As well as a global and specific idea of the philosophy and pedagogy of training. Furthermore it can serve as a basis to incorporate a programme for advanced players into your own tennis school. 4 Academy Course The Academy training programme has been designed and developed to provide a wide range of training materials to provide the coach with a broad yet detailed knowledge of coaching at this level. This new concept in integral coaching consists of the 4 pillars of learning which have been united, intertwined and interconnected so that any individual can achieve their Ideal Performance State Programme Outline PHYSICAL The programme will show a range of footwork drills and patterns to help establish the a sound fundamental understanding of the physical base required to building the foundations for a strong technical development TECHNICAL It is essential that all players develop a sound technique from an early age. We will look at the technical requirements and how to teach sound technique for 20 different strokes from the basic groundstrokes and volleys to drop shots and topspin lobs. TACTICAL Here we will help coaches understand how and when to develop the tactical abilities of their players. It will help coaches develop matchplay simulation programmes and help train their players to compete. MENTAL The mental element of the coaching methods is the final pillar which helps theplayer achieve their Ideal Performance State. The course will cover a set of rituals, routines and set programmes for controlling and effectively managing their mental state.

5 The assessment for the RPT European Professional Qualification is an optional extra for coaches following the 3 day training course. An additional day for assessments will organised for those coaches wishing to take the certification test at this level. Any coach currently holding the RPT European Professional or above or the LTA CCA or above or an ITF equivalent would not be required to complete the certification test. Coaches with these qualification would automatically receive RPT European Professional equivalency certification. COACHING: You will need to show that you can plan and conduct a range of coaching session in a group or individual situation. SKILLS: You will be required to show your ability at demonstrating the skills required to be able to effectively teach at this level. The assessment will consider both technical ability and overall control in deadball and rally phases. You will also be required to show your feeding skills. Assessments will be carried out throughout the course. PORTFOLIO: You are required to create a portfolio to demonstrate your understanding of the training programme. This will include lesson plans, coaching log, reviews, etc Your Awards QUALIFICATIONS On successful completion of the RPT certification test you will be awarded the relevant Professional Award from the RPT together with a European Union Certificate Supplement and the automatic equivalent qualification from the International Coaches Institute. Plus a coaching licence from the Spanish Coaches Association with the additional option of USPTA certification and membership ($150) You will be given a grade for each of the three individual parts of the test. Your overall grade will be based on the lowest of these three grades. The grades are as follows European Professional 65%+ NVQ QUALIFICATIONS You will receive your NVQ certifications on the successful completion of your assessments and your coaching portfolio. The NVQ assessment process will be ongoing throughout the course. Coaches will be advised and assisted in the assessment process and workbooks and guidelines will be produced to help coaches create and produce a record of their work in line with the standards required for the NVQ. 6 Declaration, Terms and conditions I understand and agree that: I must attend all the scheduled sessions during the course in the correct sequence and at the agreed venue, to qualify for assessment. I understand that I cannot miss parts of the course or move between venues unless my circumstances are exceptional (medical only, supported by a doctor s note); You must complete the course within a maximum of 6 months from the date of your enrolment. If I withdraw from the course I will forfeit the course fee, unless I give at least 21 working days written notice prior to the commencement of the course. If I give less than 21 working days written notice the fee will not be forfeited if the RPT is able to fill the vacancy; If I withdraw from the course once it has started, I will forfeit the fee; If I am unable to obtain an enhanced CRB disclosure prior to the start of the course I understand that I will not receive my qualification certificate until a satisfactory CRB is returned. If the CRB is returned after the commencement of the course and is unsatisfactory I will not receive the qualification certificate and I will not receive a refund on the course fee; The RPT is not liable for any damage or loss caused during this application process or for the duration of the course save where this is caused by the negligence of the RPT, its employees and directly affiliated bodies but any such liability shall be limited to the extent that such loss was reasonably foreseeable at the time the contract was entered into. For the avoidance of doubt this clause in no way excludes or limits the liability for personal injury or death caused as a result of the negligence of the RPT, its employees and affiliated bodies; If enrolment numbers are not sufficient, the RPT reserves the right to either change the venue of the course or cancel the course. If courses are cancelled you will receive a full refund. The RPT reserves the right to reject any applicant whom it considers to be an unsuitable person for involvement in tennis coaching. This right may also be exercised retrospectively if information is brought to the RPT s attention, which, if known at the time of application, would have rendered the candidate unsuitable. For the avoidance of doubt, the falsification of any information requested in this application form and/or the existence of any police record or caution relating to matters considered to be incompatible with certification, constitute circumstances where the RPT reserves the right to withdraw or suspend a candidate s qualification. I agree to complete the workbook and project within 45 days of the end of the course and understand that failure to do so may result in having to repeat the course and test and pay the relevant fees. By signing this form I agree to work to the best of my ability at all times, to uphold the European code of Sport Ethics and the European Charter for Sport. I also acknowledge that I have never been convicted of a criminal offence or been the subject of a Caution or of a Bound Over Order. I also promise to work within the guidelines for child protection laid down by the Governing Body in this country and within the parameters of the RPT child protection policy.
