4 FRONT: 1-2 Follow steps 1 and 2 as for back. 3. Armhole. Dec for armhole at both ends, as for back. Continue until armhole measures 3.3 ins (20 rows), with 85 sts remaining. 4. Divide for neck. Work both sides at the same time. Work 42 sts. With a second ball of yarn, cast off center 1 sts, and work remaining 42 sts. Continue armhole shaping until 28 rows worked from beginning of armhole. AT THE SAME TIME, 5. Shape neck. Dec 1 st at neck edge of next row, then every 2nd row 14 times, then every 3rd row twice, until 22 sts remain. 6. Work even until armhole measures 9.3 ins (56 rows). 7. Shoulder shaping. Cast off as for back. SLEEVES: 1. Cast on 40 sts on size 6 needles. Work in K1P1 ribbing for 2.3 ins. Inc 4 sts evenly across the row to 44 sts total. 2. Change to size 8 needles and Stocking Stitch. Knit 1 or 2 rows in main color and then begin a stripe pattern for the new style sweater. There are no sleeve stripes on the original sweater. 3. Inc 1 st at each end of every 5th row 5 times, then every 6th row 10 times to 74 sts (85 rows total, excluding hem). 4. Work even until sleeve measures 15.0 ins (90 rows), excluding hem. 5. Shape cap. Cast off 6 sts at beg of next two rows. Dec 1 st at each end of every 2nd row 10 times, then dec 1 st at each end of every 3rd row twice, then dec 1 st at each end of every 2nd row 9 times. Cast off remaining 20 sts loosely. SHOULDER SEAMS: 1. Sew fronts to back along shoulder seams. V FRONT NECK SINGLE BAND COLLAR: --- Knit on size 6 needles. Worked in 2 pieces. 1. With right side of work facing, pick up and work (starting at bottom of front neck) 35 sts from right front neck edge, 3 sts from right back neck edge and 15 sts from back neck holder to center. Total 53 sts. 2. Work 1.1 ins (8 rows) in K1P1 ribbing. For the original style, center a 1/1/1 row stripe on the neckband. 3. Cast off loosely. 4. Work the left side the same way as the right, picking up the back neck sts first. FINISHING: 1. Sew sleeve top to armhole, easing to fit. Sew side and sleeve seams using invisible seam. Sew any remaining seams. 2. Darn/weave/sew in all loose ends. AMOUNT OF YARN REQUIRED TO MAKE GARMENT:--- WARNING. THIS IS A ROUGH ESTIMATE ONLY. 5 Ladies 48 [2X] School V-Neck Sweater The School sweater is a regular length, straight pullover sweater with ribbing at bottom edge of sweater and sleeves. The set-in sleeves are full length with a moderate taper. The V-neck front and the back neck [with a shallow scoop for better fit] are edged with single ribbed band. Designed for someone with a 48 bust/chest measurement, the finished chest is 51". YARN: Wool Ease Worsted by Lion Brand; 80% acrylic-20% wool GAUGE: Gauge (Stocking Stitch over 4 in = 10 cm): 18.0 sts by 24.0 rows. Body knit on #8 US needles; Ribbing knit on #6 US needles FINISHED measurements in inches:... with Moderate fit. Total chest: 51.0 Total width at ribbed edge: 50.0 Body Length: 24.8 Ribbing depth: 2.5 Total armhole: 18.5 Top neck opening: 8.0 Point of V : 0.5 Sleeve width: 15.9 Sleeve width at cuff: 8.4 Sleeve ribbing depth: 2.3 Sleeve width above cuff: 9.3 Sleeve Length: 17.2 Front neck depth: 7.0 Back Neck Width: 6.8 Back shoulder width: 17.0 Back Neck Depth: 0.6 Ribbed neckband depth: 1.1 BACK: 1. Cast on 115 sts on size 6 needles. Work in K1P1 ribbing for 2.5 ins. Inc 2 sts evenly across the row to 117 sts total. 2. Change to size 8 needles and Stocking Stitch. Knit 1 or 2 rows in main color then begin a 1/2/1 row stripe pattern for the *new style* or a 2/2/2 stripe for the original style wizard sweater. Continue in main color and work even until piece measures 12.0 ins (72 rows), excluding hem. 3. Armhole shaping. Cast off 6 sts at beginning of next 2 rows. Dec 1 st at each end of every alternate row for 26 rows until 79 sts remaining. Continue until armhole measures 9.3 ins (56 rows), with 79 sts remaining. 4. Shoulder shaping. Cast off 7 sts at beginning of next 4 rows. Cast off 8 sts at beginning of following 2 rows. AT THE SAME TIME, when armhole measures 9.7 ins (58 rows), start neck shaping. 5. Shape neck. Slip the center 31 sts to a holder. Dec 1 st at neck edge every row twice.
