4 Background Complex cancer staging systems describe the anatomic spread of a particular malignancy. Staging provides prognostic information and is vital in guiding appropiate therapy. Tumor classification and staging, particularly for female pelvic malignancies, is complex and especially difficult to overlook for the unexperienced physician. 5 Imaging findings OR Procedure details We provide a free, comprehensive, web-based, on-the-fly solution which is easy to use and aids in accurate staging of common female pelvic cancers, based on imaging findings. The tumor classification information is based on the Collaborative Staging Network. On-the-fly staging is done by calculating and comparing the information provided by the user with the tumor classification database saved on the server. The staging tool can be used in several modes for the user's convenience. Output of information is also offered in several modes to increase flexibility and better integration into the reader's workflow. Staging process The user may select the specific cancer type from a menu. Three selection menus for the tumor extend, nodal involvment and metastatic status are displayed Additional valuable information and help is provided regarding the selection of the specific tumor descriptors. The user is offered several most common staging classifications for this particular malignancy and extensive information regarding diagnosis, treatment and prognosis of this particular stage. The provided information is conform with cancer society standards and offers TNM definitions, the most common classifications, treatment standards, references to abstracts and full text and external links to websites with more indepth information. 22 Conclusion The author presents a free and customized online tool to facilitate quick and accurate staging of common female pelvic cancers based on imaging findings.
