Located at the westen edge of the city, the appoximately eighteen ace estate contains fomal and infomal gadens, pools, outbuildings, and the two stoy house. Its focal point was a temple font facade composed of a pediment atop six Doic columns. A coss gable oof caps the stuctue. Wane estate is significant fo its association with a pominent membe of the entetainment industy, fo its exemplification of the lifestyle associated with majo membes of that industy, and fo its association with a pominent Southen Califonia achi tect. Building ecods indicate that the popety is substantially intact, theeby inceasing its potential significance. The estate was designed by Roland Coate, whose designs in the Spanish Colonial Revival and Monteey styles whee pized by membes of the film community and othe wealthy esidents of Bevely Hills, West Los Angeles and Pasadena. Coate was esponsible fo seveal outstanding esidential commissions in Bevely Hills including the estates of David 0. Selznick, Richad Fudge, and Osca Lawle. His client fo the ten ace estate on Angelo Dive, which was joined to the Haold Lloyd estate Geenaces by a pivate nine hole golf couse (Lloyd had the othe half on his popety) was Jack L. Wane, the most famous and visible of the fou Wane Bothes who founded one of Hollywood s majo film stu dios. 3 CONTINUATION SHEET: 1801 Angelo Dive 19. Significance: Studio in Thei poduction of the Jazz Singe in 1927 changed the industy and sounded the death knell of silent films. The success of the Jazz Singe was followed by a sting of gangste, adventue, and melodamas in the 1930s. Wane, the poduction chief of the studio, an it with a fim hand, often clashing with stas and diectos. He emained a head of the studio and the lagest stockholde in the company until 1967 when he sold his inteest to Seven Ats and became an independent poduce. He died in 1978, with cedits including ~ Fai Lady (1964) and Camelot (1967), which he pesonally poduced. The gentleman s estate included the golf couse and seveal outbuildings such as a summe house, swimming pool, eceation oom, and substantial sevants quates.
