13 Before and after AICON Spool (piece) metrology First of all. What on earth is a spool piece. And why do we need metrology. More and more oil and gas are produced using structures and pipes installed on the seabed. After the structure and pipe has been installed, there will be a short distance that has to be connected with a spool piece. The more accurate the distance can be surveyed, the less force has to be used connect the pipe and flange. If the error is too big, the spool piece will not fit and a lot of time and money are spent to correct it. 13

16 Before and after AICON Spool metrology - There has been a lot of requests for spool metrology since we started in The first years we did not dare to survey length over 10 to 15 meters sub sea - Normal spool metrology is 50+ meters - A increasing demand for accurate spool metrology led to a test sponsored by Statoil in The test: Acoustics versus photogrammetry - Parameters: Preparation, field work and reporting - Test for time and cost > can photogrammetry replace acoustic 16

18 Before and after AICON Spool metrology If the time and cost using photogrammetry was 30 to 50 percent compared to the acoustic system, we should be crowded with work after showing the numbers? Not so. Because of one minor detail - processing time. For a 50 meter spool metrology, typically 500 to 1000 images are acquired. We had to select the best images to process. Even if we used a subset of images the time to results was way beyond what our Clients could cope with. Results have to be presented within 24 to 48 hours. We did use a lot more. 18
