1 Spring Valley High School s UPDATE For Seniors and Parents April, 2013 CEREMONY JUNE 5th The graduation ceremony is Wednesday, June 5 at 11:30 am at the Carolina Coliseum. Enter the Elephant Room at approximately 10:30 am. No use of alcohol or drugs will be tolerated. Look for the posted signs indicating which line you should be in. Dress appropriately. Males - dress shoes, dress pants (no jeans or shorts), dress shirt with tie. Females - dress shoes, dress/skirt/pants suit (no jeans or shorts). NO PHONES, CAMERAS OR PURSES. Please allow ample travel time. IMPORTANT REMINDERS Please remind your friends and family members that this is a formal ceremony. The audience s behavior is as much a part of the ceremony as is that of the graduates. The ceremony is limited to one hour so the graduate s names are called in quick succession. When people insist on loud, prolonged clapping and cheering for one person, the name of the next student may not be heard. Please be mindful that large balloons may obstruct the view of those seated behind you. TICKET All seniors are allotted fifteen (15) tickets to graduation. Students may pick up their tickets in the Auxiliary Gym on Wednesday, 29 from 8:00-9:00 a.m. and during lunch. Students should make the necessary arrangements to pick up their tickets on this day. Remember, ALL DEBTS MUST BE PAID IN ORDER TO PICK UP YOUR TICKETS. ALL UNSERVED HOURS MUST BE COMPLETE! Note: No extra tickets will be available! DISTRIBUTION QUALIFICATIONS To participate in the graduation ceremony, a student must have passed 24 credits including all required credits by the end of 2nd semester of their senior year, passed all parts of the HSAP Exit Exam, may not have excessive absences, and must have paid all debts and fees. Students will not be allowed to participate in the graduation ceremony and make up lacking required credit in summer school.

2 SENIOR ASSEMBLY The Senior Asembly will be held on Friday, 31, 2013, at 9:00 am in the Gym. All seniors must arrive in the Commons by 7:45 am. If you wish to sit with your friends, you must arrive together and follow the process outlined below. Senior Advisors will distribute cards with your seat assignment. 1. Each row has 24 seats. When you enter the Commons, you should pick up a card with a row and a seat number. Each person can pick up only one number. 2. Once you have your number, you should report to your line and remain there. The administration reserves the right to shift people, if necessary, so the processional into the gym will be even. 3. Dress: Males - dress shoes with socks, dress pants, dress shirt and tie. Females - dress shoes or dress sandals, dress, skirt or pant suit (no spaghetti straps or midriffs). No shorts or jeans. Any students who are not appropriately dressed will not sit with the seniors.absolutely NO FLIP FLOPS. 4. Junior Marshals will head the lines. They know what they are doing, so follow their directions. 5. Behavior - any senior who misbehaves during the assembly (yelling/catcalls/boos) will be escorted from the gym and will be disciplined. 6. Seniors will not be allowed to sign out after the assembly ends. You must complete the Sign Out Permission Form in advance and return it to the Attendance Office. If you fail to do this, a parent will have to be present to sign you out. You will not be allowed call home. CAP AND GOWN AND TICKET DISTRIBUTION SENIOR BANQUET WHO: Class of 2013 WHAT: Senior Banquet WHERE: Lake Carolina Lakehouse WHEN: Tuesday, 28 at 6:00 pm COST: $2.00 Tickets to the Senior Banquet will be sold during the week of (Day TBD) in the Atrium at Lunch. All parents are invited to come enjoy food and senior traditions (senior awards, silly superlatives, reading of quotes, etc.). For more information, see Senior Class Advisor, Mrs. Kim Bouchey, in C-222. NO TICKETS WILL BE SOLD AT THE DOOR EXAM INFORMATION Exams will be held on 23 (English & Social Studies), 24 (Math & Science) and 28 (all others). Seniors may exempt exams if they have 90% or above in a class. Any senior who is eligible to exempt a final exam must pick up an exemption form from attendance. Seniors who exempt an exam are exempt only for the period when their non-exempting peers are taking the exam. Completed forms must be returned by Friday, 17. Graduation tickets will be distributed in the Auxiliary Gym on Wednesday, 29 from 8-9 a.m., and during lunch. Students should make the necessary arrangements to pick up their tickets on this day at the scheduled time. If you haven t ordered your cap and gown please contact Jostens directly at (803) NO cap and gowns will be issued at the coliseum! ANY SENIOR WHO HAS NOT CLEARED ALL SCHOOL DEBTS WILL NOT BE ALLOWED TO PICK UP TICKETS.

3 ATTENDANCE POLICY To participate in graduation, you must make up any excessive absences. Excessive absence lists will be posted outside the Attendance Office on 6, and will be updated weekly. It is your responsibility to check this list. Students who accumulate more than 10 absences in a semester course, or 20 absences in a year long course, will not receive credit for that class if the exceeding absences are undocumented (unlawful). Students who are passing a course and have not cut any classes may attend make up classes. Make-up days for seniors will be 11 and 18. Students selecting this option must attend during the scheduled times and pay $30 per class absence for 90 minutes of instruction or $15 per class absence for 45 minutes. DEBTS AND FEES Seniors will NOT be allowed to participate in the graduation ceremony or receive graduation tickets if all debts have not been cleared by 4:00 pm Tuesday, 28. The debt list is posted on the wall across from the Fees Window. The Fees Window is open before school, at lunch and after school. Please make arrangements to pay any outstanding charges immediately using cash, check, cashiers check, Visa or Mastercard. Contact Mrs. Satchellat , ext , if you have questions. It is your responsibility to clear debts. Please make sure all textbooks are turned in by the end of the semester. Failure to turn in books results in being charged at the replacement cost. Books turned in late result in late fines. Friends & Family Members: Please be courteous and allow those who have arrived early to have their choice of seats. Please do not hold seats for those who have not yet arrived. We thank you for your cooperation in this matter. GUIDAN ANCE CE NEWS Scholarships: We would like to include a list of all scholarships your graduating senior has been offered in our Graduation Program. The deadline for this information is Monday, 13, Please notify your child s counselor of the name of the scholarship, the granting institution, the amount and whether the scholarship is renewable over four years. Guidance also is required to submit a yearly report to the District Office on scholarships received by seniors. The deadline for including scholarships in this report is Friday, June 7, LIFE and HOPE Scholarships: The in-state college in which your son or daughter will enroll will automatically award these scholarships based upon final class rank and final cumulative GPA, based upon their final transcript. The Graduation Program will indicate projected scholarhip recipients. Final determination is based upon final GPA, class rank and SAT or ACT scores received by the college or university. SENIOR SLIDE SHOW Pictures for the Senior Slide Show can be submitted to Ms. Bouchey in C-222 from now through 22. The cost is $3.00 each or three for $5.00. Please include your name, phone number, and 3rd period teacher on the back of each photo. NO MORE THAN 3 PHOTOS PER PERSON. The Slide Show is limited to the first 250 photos received. You may submit pictures electronically. Please don t delay!
