13 NEW JERSEY STATE TRAPSHOOTING ASSOCIATION Greetings Fellow Trap Shooters, President s Message After a cold and blustery winter the 2015 shooting season has arrived! I envy those who were able to visit warmer climates during NJ s frigid temperatures. On behalf of the officers and directors of the New Jersey State Trapshooting Association it is my pleasure to invite all ATA shooters to attend and participate in our 2015 season. This year marks the 118th NJ State Shoot! Among the other shoots to be held are the 16th Garden State Grand, Northern and Southern Zone Shoots and our newest -The President s Handicap Shoot. First, I d like to express my utmost gratitude to my Vice Presidents Angelo D Alessio and Jeffrey Slimm for their endless work. To the Directors of the NJSTA- your commitment and contribution to making this year s shooting season a great success is deeply appreciated. I m sure you all know how devoted Rudy Torlini is to the Association. The hard work and long hours he devotes is simply unmeasurable! Since becoming your President, I ve had the opportunity to spend time with him discussing a multitude of matters. I do not believe everyone is aware of just how much he gives of himself on a daily basis (and has done so for many years). I d like to personally and publically say Thank you very much Rudy! This year we will be adding a 5th day to the New Jersey State Shoot. The 1st day being a preliminary day. New options are being added as well as changes to some of the existing ones. I am excited that we will be adding a gun giveaway as well! Look forward to new/updated trophies to be awarded. continued next page NEW JERSEY STATE TRAPSHOOTING ASSOCIATION President s Message Please note: We will be moving the Annual State Meeting to Friday, June 5th immediately following the handicap shoot off and the Shyda s Shotgun Shoot off. This change is being made in hopes of increasing attendance and allowing shoot management sufficient time prior to Sunday s shoot. Throughout the new season let s make sure to go out and support the many Trapshooting Clubs within our state. Make an effort to visit a club you ve never been to! If you are able to attend shoots in neighboring states, please do so. It is important that we extend our support to all. I had the opportunity to shoot at the Dixie Grand in Florida. I was happy to see others from New Jersey there too. If I may add.the weather was fabulous! As always, I encourage you to offer your knowledge and share your skills with others. Perhaps introduce the sport to someone new. Give pointers to a younger shooter just starting out. Invite someone to one of the many events that will be taking place throughout the year. The NJSTA extends an open invitation to fellow trap shooters from around the country. We look forward to seeing some old faces and hope to meet new ones at our 2015 State Shoot! Please be sure to refer to the State Program Book for all shoot information. May you all have a happy and healthy 2015 shooting season. Best Regards, Bobby Boehler President NJSTA 22 23

NORTHERN ZONE COUNTIES SOUTHERN ZONE COUNTIES Bergen Passaic Atlantic Gloucester Essex Somerset Burlington Mercer Hudson Sussex Camden Monmouth Hunderton Union Cape May Ocean Middlesex Warren Cumberland Salem Morris Shooters Please Note: Zone Shoot Changes The NJSTA has made the following changes to the Zone Programs, which we feel will be to the benefit of the shooters. The zone events will be telephonic and shooters may participate by shooting at either the North Jersey Clay Target Club or Pine Valley Gun Club for Events 4, 5, 6, for each Zone. PLEASE NOTE: During the 2016 Northern Zone Shoot, the following South Jersey clubs will be participating in telephonic shoot: Howell Trap Club, Pine Valley Gun Club, Ground Swipers. Zone residents MUST shoot at their respective zone locations to qualify for a Zone Trophy, otherwise they can only win an Open trophy. All ties for in zone trophies will be shot off. Ties for all open trophies will be determined by reverse run except scores of 100 or 200 which will have to be shot off. Management will not be responsible for errors on scores after the options have been figured and posted on the scoreboard. The Clubs reserve the right to reject any entry. Lunch may be obtained on the grounds. Anyone winning a trophy must pick it up, as no Trophies will be shipped. This shoot will be held regardless of the weather. A shooter may win only one trophy in any event. 25 practice targets $ TROPHY HIERARCHY FOR ALL SHOOTS ATA trophies are higher than N.J. or zone trophies. All open trophies are lesser. If a shooter qualifies for more than one trophy, that shooter must notify the Tournament Office within 15 minutes after that event s last scores have been posted as to which trophy he/she desires to take or shoot-off for. If the shooter fails in the championship trophy shoot off/carry over and has declared a Special Category, the shooter will fall back to their declared category. Any shooter who has declared a Special Category at classification and whose score qualified him/her for any trophy in his/her declared category will compete for the category trophy and not for place, class or yardage group. A category shooter whose score does not qualify him/her for his/her category may compete for place, class or yardage group. 23 2015 NEW JERSEY STATE TRAPSHOOTING PROGRAMS 2015 NEW JERSEY STATE TRAPSHOOTING PROGRAMS Craig, also a life member of Pine Belt Sportsmen s Club, became president of North Jersey Clay Target Club in 1996 till present. At the time the membership numbered approximately 250 and, under his leadership, the club s membership has grown to almost 500. He has been on one of the State Teams for 14 years, was a member of the 2013 Veterans All American Team, Vice President of the NJSTA and was president when he initiated, the now popular, telephonic zone shoots. ATA # Joe Sissano, as he is called by most, was born in Elizabeth, New Jersey in June of Joe spent his childhood and adolescent years there, attending Saint Mary s grammar and high school. He spent two years in college, and realized he would like to get into the work environment. He obtained a position with Exxon Research and Engineering as a Research Technician in That proved to be the job Joe would come to love. He spent the next thirty-six years there moving up the corporate ladder and retired in 2003 as a Research Chemist. In 1966 Joe got his first hunting license and began to hunt with his older brother, Frank. As they hunted Joe began to really like shooting, but hunting only provided a way to shoot a few shots each year. Wanting to shoot more, Joe went to the Union County Trap range in Kenilworth to shoot trap. In his first outing he broke thirteen targets out of twenty-five and was now hooked. He joined the ATA in 1968 and began shooting registered targets. In 1970 Joe moved to Lawrence Harbor, New Jersey and stopped shooting because he was focused on his career and needed to work a lot of overtime. During this period he moved to Cranford, New Jersey. In 1980 Joe was promoted to Research Technologist ending his overtime work, and began to shoot again. Joe s friend Al Potocco, suggested he go shooting with him at the Somerset Fish and Game Club, where Joe first met Ed Yanchok who was running the club, and renewed his membership in the ATA. In 1986 he married his charming wife, Mary Ann. This was truly a marriage made in heaven because they spent their honeymoon at a Pine Belt shoot that Joe wanted to attend. It was a good choice because Joe won the handicap event, earned a half yard punch bringing him to the 27 yard line for the first time. He also made the New Jersey State Team that year. In 1988 Joe shot a two hundred straight at the Northeastern Grand and tied with Frank Little for the singles championship. Joe lost the shoot off by one target and had to settle for the AA Class Trophy. Joe was asked to pose with Frank Little and the then ATA President, Randy Preston for a picture. That picture appeared on the cover of the December 1988 issue of Trap & Field. In 1994 he moved to Leonardo, New Jersey and still lives there with his wife. During his career, Joe shot 253,125 singles, 132,300 handicap and 53,450 doubles targets and from 1984 to 1994 Joe had a singles average on over 60,000 targets. Over the years he has won Class and Yardage trophies at the Dixie Grand, Southern Grand, Northeastern Grand, continued next page 42 JOSEPH SISSANO Eastern Zone and the Westy Hogans. He also won trophies over the years at the New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania, Maryland, Virginia, Delaware and Connecticut State Shoots and also at the Cavaliers and Atlantic Indians. In 2012 and 2013 he shot the most registered targets in New Jersey, 20,600 and 34,250 respectively and also made the New Jersey State Veteran Teams. Joe s record of service to New Jersey trap shooters is outstanding. In 1990 he became a New Jersey State Trapshooting Association Director; in 1993 Vice-President and from 1996 to 1999 the New Jersey State Trapshooting Association President. As President, Joe changed the size of the New Jersey State Shoot Program to its current size and initiated the selling of ads to fund its printing. In 2003 Joe became an ATA Life Member and was elected Alternate ATA Delegate for New Jersey. In 2007 he was elected New Jersey ATA Delegate and still holds that position. He is Chairman of the New Jersey State Shoot Rules Committee and is on the New Jersey Southern Zone Shoot Rules Committee and the New Jersey Northern Zone Shoot Classification Committee. Joe is a significant contributor to Trap & Field magazine, recognizing the clubs and shooters of New Jersey in his column each month. MARK T. WADE ATA # Mark was born in Newark, NJ in His mother owned a beauty salon and was a waitress, and his father owned and operated an automobile repair shop. The family moved to Kenilworth, NJ where he graduated high school. Mark earned an Economics Degree at Farleigh Dickinson University, and earned Certified Investment Management Analyst honors at The Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania. In 1987 he founded Echelon Wealth Strategies LLC. Mark also competes in skeet, sporting clays, and international trap. He joined the ATA in 1982 at Troy Meadows Trap Club and got started with some instructions from Kay Ohye. He continued shooting all of the other clay target sports and in 1991 he attended the Grand in Vandalia, OH and was 2nd in class C in the Class Championships. Mark returned in 1992 to win the Grand American Handicap event with the only 100 of the day, setting a record by besting the field by 2 targets, a feat never done previously, and a record that still stands today. Since then, Mark has won many other trophies at subsequent Grand American Competitions. He has also won many New Jersey State trophies including the Doubles Championship in 2009 and the Singles Championship in 2011 shooting 200 straight targets. In addition, he is currently named to the All American Team for Mark has also been a major benefactor to both the North Jersey Clay Target Club, as well as, the New Jersey State Trapshooting Association. He credits his success to his mentor Kay Ohye and also a lot of hard work. Mark currently has registered yd, handicap and double targets. 43

27 NEW JERSEY 118th STATE TOURNAMENT NEW JERSEY 118th STATE TOURNAMENT THE JERSEY DRAW All participants will be eligible for the following trophies this year via the Jersey Draw for Event No. 5. $500 in Gift Certificates ($300, $125, $75) donated by Cheyenne Mountain Outfitters, Route 130 in Robbinsville, NJ. SHYDA S SHOTGUN-SHOOTOUT OPTION Shyda s Outdoor Center has graciously donated a new Berretta A400 XCEL, Parallel, 12 Gauge Target Shotgun to the NJSTA to be awarded to the winner of a 3 day, 3 event option, subject to the random drawing of 50 names who will shoot off for this amazing prize on Friday June 5th following the day s events (7-9) of the New Jersey State Championships. To be eligible for the drawing and shoot off, shooting participants must play the Shyda s Shotgun Shootout Option offered during qualifying handicap events 2, 5, and/or 8. A $10.00 fee will be required for each of the shotgun-shootout options you may wish to participate in. It is not mandatory for anyone to play the option in all of the qualifying events. Each day a shooter plays the shotgun-shootout option his/her name will be entered into the random drawing. The maximum entry for any one shooter is three. A participant is only permitted one spot in the shoot off. If a shooter s name is drawn more than once the second and third selection will be discarded and another name will be drawn until 50 different shooters have been selected. If a total of 50 different shooters do not play this option during the 3 qualifying events, then all of the individual shooters that played the option at least once will shoot off. Shooters that have been selected to shoot off by random draw will shoot from his/her handicap yardage that he/she shot from on the first day that he/she opted to play this shotgun-shootout option. If during a preliminary event a participating shooter was penalized for a lack of the minimum targets required and achieves the necessary targets and is reduced to a non-penalty yardage, he/she will then shoot from their reduced handicap yardage during this shotgun-shoot off. The selected shooters will shoot off based on the yardage guidelines stated above and will shoot two targets from each of the five posts. Ties will continue to be shot off in this format until one winner is crowned. The winner will be presented with the aforementioned shotgun subject to the proper transfer of this firearm as per the guidelines set forth by the winner s resident state. The necessary transfer fees incurred for the use of an FFL (if necessary or applicable) will be reimbursed to the winner by the NJSTA. Any shipping will be at the expense of the winning shooter. By entering into this Shyda s Shotgun Shootout Option the winner agrees to be photographed with the NJSTA President, Brian Shyda and anyone else that the NJSTA Officers may deem necessary for the promotion of this event, the NJ State Trapshooting Championship events, and any other clay target shooting event without compensation. The winner and all other participants also agree to allow their names and photographs (if taken) to be mentioned or shown in any publication or to be put on display for the betterment of trapshooting, clay target shooting or shooting in general without compensation or appeal.
