UEFA ha alo launched a club champion cup competition called the UEFA Futal Cup. 1 2
2 BENEFITS...WHY PLAY FUTSAL? The maller ball with retricted bounce make it eaier for young player to mater their ball control kill. A the futal ball i deigned to tay on the floor, player get far more contact with the ball than in traditional 5 a ide. Thi reult in player improving technique uch a dribbling, paing and cloe control at an accelerated rate. A the rule of Futal include the pitch having ideline and end line, player mut be more accurate with their paing a oppoed to jut kicking the ball wildly off a wall. The dimenion of the Futal court and reduced number of player mean player participate more in the game than they would in outdoor 11 a ide. Playing in reduced pace help develop creativity. Player are encouraged to find their way out of tight ituation with a clever pa or piece of individual kill. Futal can encourage elf reliance and free expreion. Playing cloe to opponent in a mall area encourage player to think and make deciion very rapidly. It alo caue player to learn to move off the ball in order to create free pace for their team. The continuou rapid action mean player quickly learn to develop their awarene in relation to game ituation, poitional ene and their reading of the game. Becaue of the free flowing ubtitution rule, all player get approximately the ame playing time. It eay to put a team together a only a minimum of 5 player are needed. 3 SUMMARY OF THE RULES THE BASICS A futal pitch for enior game hould be between 38-42m in length and 18-22m in width. However, a pitch which i a minimum of 25m long and 15m wide i acceptable, particularly for junior game. The goalpot meaure 3m wide by 2m high. A penalty pot i marked 6m from the goal line. Another free kick pot i marked 10m from the goal line. An arc of radiu 6m from the line and goalpot upright i marked a the goalkeeper area. The game i played for two halve of 20 minute with junior game being 15 minute a half. The ball ued i a ize 4 and i deigned to give to give a retricted bounce. Each team tart with five player on the pitch including the goalkeeper. MATCH OFFICIALS Uually there are two referee who officiate from the touchline and a timekeeper controlling the clock on the ideline. However, it not entirely neceary to employ three official for junior game with one being adequate. TIMEOUTS Each team i allowed a one minute timeout in each half. Coache are not allowed on the pitch during the timeout. No timeout hould the match go to extra time. SUBSTITUTIONS Each team can name up to even ubtitute and make unlimited ubtitution. Any player replaced may re- enter the game to replace another player at any time. The ubtitution only take place through marked ubtitution zone or area. BALL OUT OF PLAY Futal i a fat moving game and rule are deigned to dicourage time wating. When ball goe out of play at the ideline, it i kicked (not thrown) back into play. Opponent mut be five metre from the ball for the kick in. Goal cannot be cored direct from kick in. When the ball goe wide at the end line, goalkeeper can only throw the ball back into play. If kick in, retart, corner and free kick are not taken within four econd, the other team get poeion of the ball. FOULS Futal i deigned to be a afe game with the emphai on kill. Direct free kick are awarded for kicking, tripping, charging, triking, puhing, holding, lide tackling (except the goalkeeper within hi / her arc), deliberate handball and dient. All other free kick are indirect. Opponent mut be 5 metre from the ball for free kick. ACCUMULATED FOULS When a team ha committed five foul in any one half of the game, every ubequent foul by that team in that half i penalied by a direct free kick from the 10 metre mark. Thi i irrepective of where the foul took place on the pitch and unle the foul wa cloer than 10 metre from goal.the defending team i not allowed to form a defenive wall for thee free kick. RED CARDS If a player i ent off, a ubtitute can be ent on AFTER TWO MINUTES but the player who ha received the red card may not return. If a team reduced to three or four player concede a goal within thoe two minute they may bring on an extra player, but only if their opponent had more player on the pitch at that time. If a team i reduced to le than three player, the match i abandoned. 5 6
4 ANATOMY OF A FUTSAL PLAYER BASIC TECHNICAL AND TACTICAL TIPS BRAIN Calm and concentration are key: player mut keep their team foul count down. Any more than five and they can no longer form a defenive wall at free kick. Well timed tackle are vital. Lack of pace foter the Futal intelligence needed for well timed pae and clever kill. There are a number of notable technical kill frequently ued in futal which are a direct influence of the maller weighted ball ued: A the ball tend to tay on the floor, the ole of the foot i quite often ued to bring it under control. EYES The fat pace and tight pace mean peripheral viion i well honed: with a harp awarene of team mate and opponent poitioning, one inciive pa turn defence into a coring chance. EARS Fluid tactic and rolling ubtitution mean that a Futal player ear mut be contantly tuned to hi coach intruction. BODY WORK Sliding tackle are banned, o upper body trength help player mucle in on poeion or avoid being mucled out. With pace limited, it alo help player hold their poition againt jotling opponent. Hearty lung are a mut to deal with contant wapping of poition and witche between defence and attack. LEGS There no time to let tired leg relax when a player take to the bench. Player might be required to go from itting to coring in a matter of econd under the rolling ubtitution ytem. Sprinter leg are needed for fat counter attacking and to revert wiftly to defence on loing poeion, when a team often change it formation completely. FEET Good Futal player hould be able to ue both feet. Wate time witching the ball between feet and there ll be a defender cutting out your option or whipping the ball off your toe. Back heel and other trick are ueful for getting out of a tight pot and a top notch piece of kill create option from a dead end. Rather than executing hort pae with the intep like a footballer, Futal player achieve better accuracy over hort ditance with the point of the toe, while the ole of the foot i alo important for controlling the ball. Footwear i deigned to grip the playing urface and maximie ball control. The ole of the foot i very often ued in move to beat player. A player are cloed down very quickly and time i ometime limited to plit econd to make a pa or to hoot, the point of the toe i often ued to play the ball. Becaue there i no back lift of the leg, the pa or hot can be made far more quickly. The point of the toe can alo produce a powerful hot. There are normally no pre-defined defenive or attacking poition excluively allocated to individual player in futal a there i in 11 a ide football. All player ideally hould be able to attack and defend. One exception to thi i that ome team often ue a pecialit tay put central triker known a the pivot. Thi player uually play with hi / her back to goal to control attack and et up opportunitie for oncoming team mate. Playing ytem There are four Futal formation: 3-1, 2-2, 1-2-1, 4-0. The 3-1 ytem ue a lone triker. The defence look to play the ball to him early and, a he hold it up, break quickly to upport him. In the 2-2 model, the player tay cloe together and hunt like a pack, alway preuriing an opponent on the ball or upporting a team mate in poeion.the key to i getting the ball to the two wide player, who carry it wiftly up the wing and cro it low into the triker path. Finally, 4-0 i the defenive formation that mot team revert to on loing poeion. Player tend to rotate poition and find they can be defending one moment and then attacking often within a matter of econd. Uually, the highly killed player are the one who can create mot coring opportunitie with their ability to beat player and create pace. Becaue of the non top high pace of the game where player mut contantly attack and defend, rolling ubtitution are a popular feature of the game. Team often change the outfield player one, two and even up to four at a time to maintain the relentle pace of the game and allow player a ret period before rejoining the action again. World futal uperpower Brazil, Spain and Italy favour a preing game which require a uperior phyical conditioning of player.
