AT Solutions for the Early Childhood Population Emerging Technologies: Use of ipads in Early Childhood, Part 1 This is a two- part webshop presenting apps for Early Childhood aligned with the Virginia Foundation Blocks for Early Learning. The apps presented here are only intended to serve as samples in different areas of curriculum. T/TAC does not endorse or recommend specific apps. TIME: 12 minutes See Me, Feel Me, Touch Me, Hear Me: Adapting Books for Divergent Learners Sally Norton- Darr and Judith Schoonover from Loudoun County Public Schools created this webshop. Explore this rich collection of literacy and thematic resources for Do- It Yourselfers! TIME: 45 minutes Making Books Come to Life Making Books Come to Life is housed on a wiki site developed by the T/TAC at VCU's Assistive Technology Team to help professionals and families working with young children with disabilities learn more about literacy and how to make literacy experiences accessible, fun and engaging for all young learners. Explore these resources at your own pace, use them with your students, or use these materials to teach others how to adapt literacy experiences for all! TIME: 45 minutes
2 Home Literacy Experiences of Nonverbal Children and Practical Ways to Improve Them Barbara Cannon from Spotsylvania County Public Schools created this webshop to highlight ways to improve literacy outcomes for all students with speech impairments including those with cerebral palsy, autism, Down syndrome and any other disability where there is a deficit in expressive speech ability. It's really not surprising at all: non- verbal children have a hard time learning to read and write. Without functional expressive language skills, they are at risk. But what specifically can be done to help change this? This webshop will begin with research relating to home literacy experiences of non- verbal children, target specific needs of these children, and provide practical methods and technologies to help increase positive literacy outcomes. TIME: 30 minutes AT Solutions for Students with Low Incidence Disabilities Making a Foam Switch This webshop shows how to create a foam switch. TIME: 4 minutes Making a Switch Using CD Container This webshop demonstrates how to make a Switch using a CD container. TIME: 3 minutes All is Fair in Science and the ASOLs Viewers will take a tour of a very special science fair. The Reach Program at St. Mary's Home for Disabled Children hosts this annual event. 6 AIM Implementation Guide by CAST For schools looking for ways to improve academic achievement and persistence to high school completion, utilization of Text to Speech (TtS) technology paired with AIM is worth serious consideration. This implementation guide was developed to support use of TtS and AIM as a compensatory strategy at the secondary level. It is based on the collective experiences of educators in local school districts who implemented pilot TtS/AIM projects. Although the information provided in this guide pertains to these specific projects in Missouri, the principles, practices, and materials apply more broadly to the ongoing implementation of AIM in educational settings. TIME: 18 minutes VDOE s I m Determined Modules The modules are designed to provide background information on the self- determination movement for people with disabilities and the history of the Virginia Department of Education's I'm Determined Project. Participants may want to print out the questions for each module with answers to print and include with the webshop certificate.
