DOP SUBMERSIBLE DREDGE The compactly-built and wear resistant dredge pump is directly powered by a hydraulic motor. The pump and its drive are built into a protective casing, to which various suction heads can be attached. The type of suction head depends on the job at hand: a sand winning head or cutter unit for sand mining, a leveling head for bed leveling in a building pit, an auger unit for environmental clean-ups or the DOP can be used as a mobile booster station. 25 The Damen Trailing Suction Hopper Dredger (TSHD) has been designed as a dedicated maintenance dredger. Its main purpose is to keep ports and navigation channels at the right depth. 26 A large number of dredging sensors are available. For instance, the trailing pipe position can be monitored by inclino meters and rotation sensors, which are fitted on the hinge points. Other sensors can measure the height of the hopper cargo. All of this combined sensor data improves dredging accuracy and boost dredging efficiency. TRAILING SUCTION HOPPER A state-of-the-art monitoring and control system is available. A clear, on-screen presentation is given of the actual trailing pipe working angle. Other pages show the load and draught, the dredge pump production and the vacuum and pressures of jetwater and dredge pumps, as well as the positions of the gantries and the swell compensator.
