2 2016 INTERBIKE AWARDS Award Categories and Criteria VeloNews Athlete Awards 1. Domestic Road Cyclist of the Year (Male) This award recognizes excellence in road cycling for the 2016 race season amongst pro-level male racers. Performance is considered for all races that transpired between August 1, 2015 and July 31st, 2016 at domestic events. Nominees and winners will be selected by the editors from VeloNews. 2. Domestic Road Cyclist of the Year (Female) This award recognizes excellence in road cycling for the 2016 race season amongst pro-level female racers. Performance is considered for all races that transpired between August 1, 2015 and July 31st, 2016 at domestic events. Nominees and winners will be selected by the editors from VeloNews. 3. Domestic Cyclocross Rider of the Year (Male) This award recognizes excellence in Cyclocross Racing for the 2016 race season amongst pro-level male racers. Performance is considered for all races that transpired between August 1, 2015 through July 31, 2016 at domestic events. Nominees and winners will be selected by the editors from VeloNews. 4. Domestic Cyclocross Rider of the Year (Female) This award recognizes excellence in Cyclocross Racing for the 2016 race season amongst pro-level female racers. Performance is considered for all races that transpired between August 1, 2015 through July 31, 2016 at domestic events. Nominees and winners will be selected by the editors from VeloNews. 5. Domestic Mountain Bike Race of the Year Starting with the early Repack downhill races in Marin, CA, mountain bike racers have always moved to the beat of their own tribe. It s not so much about points it s about getting dirty, having fun and regional bragging rights. This award recognizes mountain bike races across the country that take racing in the dirt to a new level. Nominees are considered for domestic events that transpired between August 1, 2015 through July 31, Nominees and winners will be selected by the editors from VeloNews. NICA/Athlete Award 6. Next Generation Rider of the Year This award recognizes the amateur mountain bike athlete (male/female) who has embodied the National Interscholastic Cycling Association s (NICA) core values of strong body, mind, and character, during a breakout race year. This category will include performances across the following disciplines of mountain bike racing: XC, DH, Short Track and Enduro. Performance is considered for all races that transpired between October 1, 2015 and July 31st, Nominees and winners will be selected by NICA s executive staff.
3 Mountain Bike Action (MBA) Product Awards 7. Mountain Bike of the Year - Represents any product that was deemed a model year 2016 product and was available for review by the MBA staff between July 1st 2015 and June 15th This product is also required to have been in production and available at retail in this timeframe. This award covers all categories of full suspension, hardtails, single speeds, fat tire bikes, etc. Nominees are considered based on overall design, performance, spec, price, styling, etc. 8. Mountain Component of the Year - Includes all component items such as derailleurs, tires, forks, wheels, brakes, tires, shocks, saddles, seatposts, stems, chains, pedals, handlebars, cranks, grips and more. Similar to the bike category, all products were deemed a model year 2016 product and submitted for review by the MBA staff between July 1 st, 2015 and June 15 th, The products nominated were also required to have been in production and available at retail within this timeframe. 9. Mountain Accessory of the Year - Includes all accessory items such as helmets, clothing, computers, shoes, eyewear and more. Similar to the bike category, all products were deemed a model year 2016 product and submitted for review by the MBA staff between July 1st, 2015 and June 15th, The products nominated were also required to have been in production and available at retail within this timeframe. 10. Best in Show Mountain The nominees for this list are decided by the editors based on products displayed at Interbike or OutDoor Demo. This category will be open to all products that participate in the show and includes both bike and non-bike products. MBA editors will compile the list of nominees by end of show day Wednesday. On Thursday, selected brands will be informed at their booth that they are nominated for the award. Road Bike Action (RBA) Product Awards 11. Road Bike of the Year - Represents any road/gravelcross/touring/track bike that was deemed a model year 2016 product and was available for review by the RBA staff between July 1st 2015 and June 15th This product is also required to have been in production and available at retail in this timeframe. This award covers all categories of drop bar bikes. Nominees are considered based on overall design, performance, spec, price, styling, etc. 12. Road Component of the Year - Includes all accessory and component items such as derailleurs, tires, wheels, brakes, tires, forks, saddles, seatposts, stems, chains, pedals, cranks, bar tape, handlebars and more. Similar to the bike category, all products were deemed a model year 2016 product and submitted for review by the RBA staff between July 1st, 2015 and June 15th, The products nominated were also required to have been in production and available at retail within this timeframe. 13. Road Accessory of the Year - Includes all accessory items such as helmets, clothing, computers, shoes, power meters, eyewear and more. Similar to the bike category, all products were deemed a model year 2016 product and submitted for review by the RBA staff between July 1st, 2015 and June 15th, The products nominated were also required to have been in production and available at retail within this timeframe.
4 14. Best in Show Road The nominees for this list are decided by the RBA editors based on products displayed at Interbike and OutDoor Demo. This category will be open to all brands that participate in the show and includes bikes, components and accessories. RBA editors will compile the list of nominees by end of show day Wednesday. On Thursday, selected brands will be informed at their booth that they are nominated for the award. E-Bike Action (EBA) Product Awards 15. E-Bike of the Year - This award represents any complete bike that was deemed a model year 2016 product and was submitted for review by the EBA staff between July 1 st, 2015 and June 15 th, The bikes nominated were also required to have been in production and available at retail within this timeframe. 16. E-Bike Product Innovation of the Year - This award recognizes advancements in technology within the growing e-bike segment. Similar to the bike category, all nominees were deemed a model year 2015 innovation and submitted for review by the EBA staff between July 1st 2015 and June 15th Nominees were also required to have been in production and available at retail within this timeframe. National Bicycle Dealer Association Supplier/Distributor Awards 17. The Profitability Award Bike: This category measures a bike brand s beginning mark-up, inventory turns, and realized profit margins to the IBD. All nominees and winners are determined through a series of criteria including: sell through data, dealer surveys, and supplier interviews gathered between December 2015 and July The Profitability Award Accessories: This category measures an accessory brand s beginning mark-up, inventory turns, and realized profit margins to the IBD. All nominees and winners are determined through a series of criteria including: sell through data, dealer surveys, and supplier interviews gathered between December 2015 and July The Service Award - This category measures a brand or distributor in product availability, order management, shipping speed & quality, return acceptance, programs, terms, and brand s sales & technical staff and its utilization of technology in dealer communications. All nominees and winners are determined through a series of criteria including: dealer surveys, and supplier interviews gathered between December 2015 and July Brand of the Year - This category evaluates the profitability, support of the Independent Bicycle Dealer (IBD), and the consumer s satisfaction with the quality and value of the brand s offerings. All nominees and winners are determined through a series of criteria including: sell through data, dealer surveys, and supplier interviews gathered between December 2015 and July Distributor of the Year - This category measures a distributor in profitability to the dealer, product availability, order management, shipping speed & quality, and return acceptance. 5 Triathlon Business International (TBI) Athlete Awards 22. International Triathlete of the Year (Male/Female) This award recognizes excellence in Triathlon performance for men and women for the 2015/2016 race season amongst International Pro-level athletes. Performance is considered for all races that transpired between October 15, 2015 and July 31, 2016 for both domestic and international races. Nominees and winners will be selected by the board of directors of Triathlon Business International. 23. Breakthrough North American Triathlete of the Year (Male/Female) This award recognizes the professional or amateur triathlete that has had a breakout race year. This athlete could come from the best young rider ranks or could be a triathlete that finally has a year for the ages and has become a force to be reckoned with. Performance is considered for all races that transpired between October 15, 2015 and July 31, 2016 for both domestic and international races. 24. Triathlon Innovation of the Year Represents any product that was deemed a model year 2016 product and was available for review by the TBI board of directors between July 1, 2015 and June 15, This product is also required to have been in production and available at retail in this timeframe. This award covers all categories of triathlon, including bikes, wheels, components, accessories, clothing etc. Nominees are considered based on overall design, performance, spec, price, styling, etc. Nominees and winners will be selected by the board of directors of Triathlon Business International. PeopleForBikes Advocacy Awards 25. Next Generation Award This award honors the efforts of organizations, schools, corporations and individuals that have gone above and beyond to get more kids on bikes. Our industry s future will be shaped by the work being done now to create more and innovative ways to get our kids riding bikes more often. All nominees and winners will be selected by the PeopleForBikes staff. 26. Leadership Award This award gives accolades to mayors, governors, civic leaders, or corporate executives that are championing the cause for getting more people on bikes and creating more safe places for bikes. These pioneers are non-industry advocates who are fighting for us and they deserve to be recognized and celebrated. All nominees and winners will be selected by the PeopleForBikes staff.
6 Bicycle Retailer and Industry News (BRAIN) Retailer Awards 27. Best Urban/Lifestyle Shop - Recognizes the specialty retailer that features the best selection, product mix and knowledgeable staff in the urban and lifestyle category. This shop appeals to commuters and recreational riders. All nominees and winners to be determined by open industry online ballot and vetted by BRAIN editorial staff. 28. Best Pro Road Shop - Recognizes the specialty retailer that features the best selection, product mix and professional service in the road category. This shop appeals to high-end road enthusiasts. All nominees and winners to be determined by open industry online ballot and vetted by BRAIN editorial staff. 29. Best Mountain Bike Shop - Recognizes the specialty retailer that features the best selection, product mix and professional service in the mountain bike category. This shop appeals to avid mountain bikers. All nominees and winners to be determined by open industry online ballot and vetted by BRAIN editorial staff. 30. Best Women s/female-friendly Shop - Recognizes the specialty retailer that features the best selection, product mix and merchandising in the women s category. This shop is comfortable and inviting to female riders. All nominees and winners to be determined by open industry online ballot and vetted by BRAIN editorial staff Retailer of the Year - Recognizes the specialty retailer that s having a noteworthy year in terms of sales, store remodel or expansion, and increased local market presence. This shop sets an industry standard for overall retail experience. All nominees and winners to be determined by open industry online ballot and vetted by BRAIN editorial staff. 32. Best Omni-Channel Retailer - Recognizes the specialty retailer that has embraced the digital retail landscape and created an online sales channel to successfully complement their brick-and-mortar business. This shop has gone beyond having just a website incorporating product availability, inventory solutions, and in-store pickup - to enhance the shopping experience and create options for their customers. All nominees and winners to be determined by open industry online ballot and vetted by BRAIN editorial staff. Bicycle Product Supplier Association (BPSA) Lifetime Achievement Award Interbike Lifetime Achievement Award - The Interbike Lifetime Achievement Award is given annually to one individual whose career has greatly contributed to the advancement or promotion of the bicycle industry. The winner will be selected by the BPSA Board of Directors. Factors considered in the selection process include: span and scope of career; estimated number of lives individual has touched through his or her work; legacy of the individual's work; additional awards or honors received; and references.

Hi-Torque Publications (Road Bike Action, Mountain Bike Action, Electric Bike Action a. About Hi-Torque Publications (HTP): i. HTP was founded over 40 years ago with Motocross Action and Dirt Bike magazines, both which forever altered the landscape of special interest magazines with a dedication to product testing. That mission remained firmly in place with Mountain Bike Action. In the mid-90's Road Bike Action followed in the footsteps of MBA, with Electric Bike Action joining the family in Each publication is dedicated to providing consumers with substantive testing and honest appraisals of the latest products in their respective categories. b. BIKE OF THE YEAR ROAD/MOUNTAIN/E-BIKE i. Nominees are considered based on the level of innovation, plus their overall design and construction, ride performance and value. For a bike to be considered as a nominee in this category it would need to 1. Have been available to the public from July 1, 2015 to June 15, 2016, and 2. Have been submitted to the editorial staff of Road Bike Action, Mountain Bike Action or Electric Bike Action (respectfully) within that same time. ii. Product should be delivered to either Mountain Bike Action, Road Bike Action or Electric Bike Action at: Hi-Torque Publications c/o Interbike Awards (Name of Category Your Brand is Submitting For) Anza Dr Valencia, CA 91355
8 c. ONACCESSORY/COMPONENT OF THE YEAR i. Nominees are considered based on the level of innovation, plus their overall design and construction, performance and value. For a product to be considered as a nominee in this category it would need to 1. Have been available to the public from July to June , and 2. Have been submitted to the editorial staff of Road Bike Action or Mountain Bike Action within that same time. ii. Product should be delivered to: Hi-Torque Publications c/o Interbike Awards (Name of Category Your Brand is Submitting For) Anza Dr Valencia, CA d. BEST IN SHOW (MOUNTAIN, ROAD) i. This selection is not based solely on the prettiest and best dressed, but the bike or product that also has a compelling story behind it. Judging will occur September 21-22, 2016 the Interbike show in Las Vegas. II. III. PeopleForBikes (PFB) a. About PeopleForBikes: i. PeopleForBikes is working to united millions of individuals, thousands of businesses and hundreds of communities to make biking better for everyone. b. Nomination Process: i. Nominees for each advocacy award (Next Generation Award, PlacesForBikes Award and Leadership Award) are chosen by the five-member PFB executive team based on recommendations by the organization's staff and board of directors. Winners are then selected for their exemplary roles in getting more people on bikes, creating safer places to ride and pioneering efforts to increase bicycle participation, respectively, between July 1, 2015 and June 15, Winners are chosen via a majority vote of the executive team prior to the Interbike Awards gala. National Bicycle Dealers Association (NBDA) a. About The NBDA: i. The NBDA is a non-profit association promoting the interests of every specialty bicycle retailer in the United States. Each dollar raised goes towards funding member programs, and every initiative is approved by an active, elected volunteer board of directors comprised of specialty bicycle retailers. b. Nomination Process: i. All nominees and winners are determined through a series of criteria including: sell through data, dealer surveys, and supplier interviews gathered between December 2015 and July 2016.
9 IV. Triathlon Business International (TBI) a. About TBI: i. Triathlon Business International is dedicated to promoting the sport and the business of triathlon. Led by a coalition of industry leaders in all aspects of the sport. TBI s mission is to leverage the knowledge, talent, resources and passion of the global triathlon community for the benefit of the continued growth of the sport. b. Nomination Process: i. Athlete: Nominations for each athlete award (International Male Triathlete of the Year, International Female Triathlete of the Year) are chosen by the 23- member TBI Board of Directors based on the athlete s performance in 2015 and the first half of the 2016 race season. Performance is considered for all races between January 1 st, 2015 and July 21 st The TBI Board is made up of triathlon industry leaders from many segments of the triathlon community, including media, manufacturing/supply, retail, events, veterans and more. Winners are chosen via a majority vote by the board prior to the Interbike Awards gala. ii. Industry Leader: Nominations for the industry leader award are also chosen by the 23-member TBI Board of Directors based on the individual, brand, athlete, event producer or product that demonstrated leadership and vision in driving the sport of triathlon in both 2015 and Winners are chosen via a majority vote by the board prior to the Interbike Awards gala. V. Bicycle Retailer and Industry News (BRAIN) a. About BRAIN: i. Bicycle Retailer & Industry News is the leading trade magazine and website in the cycling industry. The magazine, published 18 times a year, is read by dealers and suppliers throughout the U.S. and Canada. It's also mailed to several hundred key executives in Asia, Europe, Africa, Australia, New Zealand and the Middle East. Its website, bicycleretailer.com, is for many industry and retail professionals a "must go to" website. Updated multiple times daily throughout the week, bicycleretailer.com is a news driven site offering the latest information on breaking events, products and trends. The magazine has a professional staff of six full-time editors as well as key contributors who keep the industry updated and informed. b. Criteria: i. Retail winners to be determined via three-step process. Entries to be submitted via NBDA America s Best Bike Shop applications; nominees to be determined by nominating panel; and winners to be selected via open online ballot. ii. Step 1: Entries 1. Self-nominations in four categories submitted via NBDA America s Best Bike Shop applications. Retailers self-nominate themselves for consideration in one of four categories: Urban/Lifestyle; Pro Road; Mountain Bike; Women s.
10 iii. Step 2: Review of Entries 1. Nominating panel comprised of BRAIN editorial staff, Interbike staff and independent judges to review submissions. 2. Panel to determine slate of candidates (6) based on submissions in each retail category. iv. Step 3: Voting Process 1. Open ballot created and posted online with slate of candidates (6) in each retail category. 2. Link to online ballot will be distributed through multiple channels including BRAIN website and Interbike website. 3. Only one vote will be allowed per person (determined by IP address). 4. No panel is involved in determining winners; winners are simply the highest vote-getters based on votes received. VI. VII. VeloNews a. About VeloNews: i. NICA provides leadership, services and governance for local leagues to produce quality mountain bike events, and supports every student-athlete in the development of strong body, mind and character through their efforts on and off the bike. b. Nominations for the Next Generation Rider of the Year are chosen by the NICA executive staff based on the athlete s performance between October 1, 2015 and July 31, Winners are chosen via a majority vote by the executive staff prior to the Interbike Awards gala.
11 VIII. Bicycle Product Suppliers Association (BPSA) a. About the Bicycle Product Suppliers Association: i. BPSA is an association of suppliers of bicycles, parts, accessories and services. The association leads industry initiatives in legal and governmental affairs and safety issues, is the leading resource for bicycle statistical data, and provides regular networking and educational forums for members. Our goals: 1. To provide the tools and resources that improve the efficiency and productivity of its members in the service they provide to the specialty bicycle retailer. 2. To provide programs benefiting its members and contributing to the understanding of their role in the industry. 3. To work with other industry groups and government entities for the benefit of our membership. b. Nomination Process: i. The winner will be selected by the BPSA Board of Directors. Factors considered in the selection process include: span and scope of career; estimated number of lives individual has touched through his or her work; legacy of the individual's work; additional awards or honors received; and references.
