1 Tuesday 1 March Thursday 3 March MORNING WALK and TALK ALONG THE LUGG MEADOWS (See Special Events pages for details) Park at the Point4 (Part of RNC) in Venn s Lane, Hereford. Map: EXP189/SO Meet at the Reception near the car park and walk across the park to the river Lugg. Explore the meanders and walk back across through the woods. The walk is fully inclusive to all, including Ramblers, Walking for Health, carers etc. walk on field-paths and lanes may have a few stiles, some small inclines and some muddy sections. Optional refreshments at end of walk. Leisurely 4 miles. Arthur and Mary Thursday 3 March GROUP COFFEE & CHAT 10:30. Please join us for coffee & a chat at the Chase Hotel, Gloucester Road, Ross HR9 5LH. Everyone welcome. Heather or Saturday 5 March BISHOPSWOOD AND HOWLE HILL (WRCP 09.25). OL14/SO from the public car park by the canoe launch and Bishopswood Village Hall on the B4234 road from Ross to Lydbrook. The entrance is on the right just after the Bishopswood/Kerne Bridge bus shelter as you head towards Lydbrook from the end of Kerne Bridge and after passing the Inn on the Wye. Several steep sections on this increasingly hilly circuit of the hills and woods over Howle Hill towards Hope Mansell and Ruardean. 9 miles moderate. BPL. Bob or Sunday 6 March SHIRE TRAIL - EWYAS HAROLD TO BACTON Meet at Ewyas Harold Memorial Hall, OL13/SO , just off A465 at Pontrilas. Parking may be available on the day, if not, park considerately in the road. We follow the Herefordshire Trail to Bacton and return via fields, lanes and the Dulas Brook. 8 miles. 2 Wednesday 10 March TEASHOP WALK FROM QUEENSWOOD (See Special Events pages for details) Park at Queenswood Country Park on A49 north of Wellington. EXP202/SO Meet outside café. Or, catch bus 492 from Hereford Railway Station stand 1 at return bus at Circular walk via Westhope Common. BPL. On return, everyone is expected to buy tea and cake in the old Hereford pub building brought up from Widemarsh Street, which is now the café. Moderate 8 miles, possibly muddy. Lynne and Mary Saturday 12 March VIEWS FROM BREDENBURY Park at A44, Lay-By, a quarter mile west of Bredenbury. EXP 202/SO Grendon Bishop, Pencombe, Sawbury Hill, Great Wacton. Moderate 8.5 miles. A moderate 7.5 circular walk through the woodlands of Cobbler Plain and a visit to Kilgwrrwg Church. BPL. Neville Sunday 13 March HAY HO! BUS WALK - KERRY'S GATE TURN TO PETERCHURCH Catch the Hay Ho! 39A bus from Hereford Railway Station. EXP189/SO (Broad Street 10.22, Tesco Belmont 10.28). The route crosses the Grey Valley and the Dore Valley and up to the church at St Margarets, before dropping down to Peterchurch. BPL. Time for tea at the Nag's Head before catching the bus back at (arr Hereford 18.27). 9 miles moderate. Philip Monday 14 March COFFEE MORNING IN Meet up for a chat at Cookies cafe behind Boots in Hereford. Everyone is welcome, so come along for a friendly get together and exchange of ideas. Enquiries Every Tuesday morning, a group of Ramblers meets at Cookies for a chat, so if you are in town on Tuesdays or prefer Tuesday to Monday, do go along and meet up. Map: EXP189/SO Walk starts from the Reception near the car park and goes north through Holmer, Munstone towards Pipe and Lyde hope to see and hear some buzzards. It is fully inclusive to all, including Ramblers, Walking for Health, carers etc. Interesting short walk to suit the group, on field-paths and lanes one steep section and some mud. Optional refreshments at end of walk. Leisurely 4 miles. Arthur and Mary Saturday 19 March WALK SMARTLY IN MARTLEY Meet at St Peter's Church car park on Hopehouse Lane, off the B2404 Clifton to Worcester Road. EXP204/SO A lovely circular walk in the Teme valley, including part of the Worcestershire Way. It passes through traditional orchards and ancient woodlands with spectacular views across Worcestershire. 7 miles. Moderate with some steep climbs. BPL. David Saturday 19 March HOARWITHY AND BALLINGHAM (WRCP 09.30). EXP189/SO Park/start at the end of Hoarwithy Bridge. A moderate 8.5 mile walk along the river to Ballingham, then to Little Dewchurch and return on the Herefordshire Trail. Mostly meadows and woodland. BPL. Sally Tuesday 22 March Tuesday 22 March SUPPER CLUB AT THE COURTYARD THEATRE, EDGAR STREET, (see Special Events page for more details) All members are invited to join us on the mezzanine floor where we have a table booked - meeting at to eat at Pre-order the delicious cold 8.95 alternatively, choose from the main menu online if you wish for a smaller or larger meal or just join us for a drink. EXP200/SO We explore the Radnor Forest and the bare hillside, returning by a fine upland byway. 10 miles. Moderate with some steep sections and rough ground. BPL. Tom Saturday 26 March GOLDEN VALLEY PETERCHURCH TO MICHAELCHURCH ESCLEY 10:00. (WRCP 09:00). OL13/SO Meet in car park opposite St Peter s Church just off the B4348. Moderate 9-mile walk with splendid views over the Golden Valley and Black Mountains returning via Urishay Castle. BPL. Jan and Don Tuesday 29 March COLWALL GREEN TO WELLINGTON HEATH Meet by the bus stop at Colwall Green, EXP190/SO , for an undulating walk to Wellington Heath, taking in Oyster Hill with its splendid views over the Herefordshire countryside. 7 miles. Moderate. BPL. Registered Assistance Dogs only. Mary Tuesday, 29th March DAFFODIL WALK Park/start at Linton Wood (part of Dymock Forest) OL14/SO Parking is available just past Ross Golf Club on the right-hand side of the road. The route goes through Queenswood to Kempley, the woodlands of Dymock, Shaw Common and Haywood. Easy 7 mile walk. Food and drink available at the Road Maker Pub. Neville Tuesday 29 March PLEASE READ THESE IMPORTANT INSTRUCTIONS General: As a group member it is your responsibility to follow the leader s instructions for the benefit of the group as a whole. If you should leave the walk early, please notify the leader. Please do not walk in front of the leader. Keep in single file on all roads. Accidents or incidents that occur during the course of the walk, should be reported to the leader immediately. Persons under 18 must be accompanied by a responsible adult. Insurance: All sporting and leisure activities have inherent hazards associated with them and rambling is no exception. In spite of the safety of members always being the paramount concern, accidents will occasionally occur. It is important, therefore, that when entering into the activity, each member appreciates that they have a responsibility to identify the hazards associated with the activity and take all reasonable steps to eliminate or minimise the potential for an accident to arise. 5 Guidance on grades: Easy Access; Walks for everyone, including people with conventional wheelchairs and pushchairs, using easy access paths. Comfortable shoes or trainers can be worn. Assistance may be needed to push wheelchairs on some sections. Easy: Walks for anyone who does not have a mobility difficulty or a specific health problem or is seriously unfit. Suitable for pushchairs if they can be lifted over occasional obstructions. Comfortable shoes or trainers can be worn. Leisurely: Walks for reasonably fit people with at least a little country walking experience. May include un-surfaced rural paths. Walking boots and warm, waterproof clothing recommended. Moderate: Walks for people with country walking experience and a good level of fitness. May include some steep paths and open country. Walking boots and warm, waterproof clothing essential. Strenuous: Walks for experienced country walkers with above average fitness level. May include hills and rough country. Walking boots and warm, waterproof clothing essential. Transport/Car Parking: Think green, try and car share. If you require a lift, contact the walk leader who may be able to organise a lift for you. Don t leave valuables in your car in full view of thieves, and remember to lock your car. Protect against theft or vandalism. The pick-up point for Ross Group WRCP = Wilton Road Car Park. The pick-up point for Leadon Vale Group BSCP = Bridge Street Car Park. Colwall Station is to become an alternative car pick-up or car-share point for Leadon Vale. Exp 190 SO Car Parking is free and it is served by a regular train service. Notes: For a full days walk bring a packed lunch = BPL - and plenty to drink.
