Along are moving REIM Kiinteistövälitys Oy (REIM Brokerage Ltd), REIM Lappeenranta Oy and Tilikarelia Oy, after which all the companies of REIM Group operating in Lappeenranta will be working in the same building. The city center is under 1km away from the building located in Väinö Valveen katu 1. The first barracks for soldiers in Rakuunamäki were built in 1890 which were officially handed to the use of Finnish dragoon regiment on the 25th November that year. The plans for the barracks were composed in the 1880s in Helsinki in the Board of Public Buildings under the lead of the chairman of the board Sebastian Gripenberg, after which the plans were accepted in the Finnish senate. The barracks were a representative of the high-class building standards which followed strictly the international standards on building barracks, and in this case, the German development. It was a proud example of the Finnish craftsmanship at the time. Against all prejudices these barracks were not built by Russians (In Finland was an autonomic part of Russia, Grand Duchy of Finland. Before this it was a part of Sweden for over 500 years. Finland finally got its independency in 1917). The barracks were, however, built purely by Finnish craftsmanship. Several women and men, of whom 60 were bricklayers, were taking part in building 26 buildings started at the same time in Rakuunamäki. There were over a hundred rock men, rest being axe men and other working and driving men. The barracks served the Finnish cavalry for a couple of decades until sadly the cavalry regiment was shut down and the leadership of the garrison moved to the Russians right until the gaining of Independence of Finland. During the Independence the barracks have been mostly serving the dragoons of Uusimaa. Transferring the barracks to civil use started in 1993 when the Defense Ministry moved the leadership of the barracks to the Ministry of Finance. From the Ministry of Finance the leadership moved to the Property Management via National Board of Building, leading to the Southeastern Finland s Real Estate Sector. The plans for renovation of the barracks took 18 months after what the builders came into the house with serious intentions. The renovation was done in about nine months and the barracks were delivered in October The District Court of South Karelia started its function in the barracks in the beginning of December that year. The District Court moved out of the building and the building changed its ownership to a privately-owned property investor Kirsi-Kiinteistöt in year In the beginning of 2013 there were some renovations made in the building under the surveillance of the National Board of Antiquities. REIM Group headquarters will be moving to the building in Rakuunamäki from Puhakankatu, Lappeenranta, in the first days of April. At the same time the building will be getting residents from REIM Kiinteistönvälitys Oy (REIM Brokerage Ltd) and Tilikarelia Oy. In addition, REIM Lappeenranta Oy will be moving to the premises from the shopping mall Galleria. After this all the companies of REIM Group operating in Lappeenranta will be working in the same building, where they will have almost 800 square meters of functional and stylish office space. The financial manager Irina Rosenfeld, who is responsible for the move of REIM Group, states about the moving: We get the chance to get into a historical, interesting and functional building in Rakuunamäki. Our staff is excited and the new premises will improve our customer service and its privacy. It is easy to come to us. There is enough parking space and our location is under 1km away from the very city center, the crossroads of Valtakatu and Kauppakatu. 2 Strong accounting knowledge along with REIM Group in South Karelia Arja Äijälä, the new CEO of Tilikarelia Oy (since )...background I go way back in being a professional in economy, as long as 50 years. How, it will be revealed later. Back in the day in the mid-70s I got a Vocational qualification in Business and Administration in Rauma. After this I was supposed to move to Turku to study in the University of Applied Sciences but back then I had to leave these plans for family reasons. Of course, I have had several courses and in-service training since then. I worked for years in Rauma Area s Telephone Ltd (Rauman Seudun Puhelin Oy) as the person in charge of invoices and collection. In this job I was honored to be a part of the project that created the world s first IT software which includes everything connected to the activity of the telephone centers. The project lasted for several years and it was made in cooperation with the software house. My responsibility was to test the accounting of the software. For a short period of time I was an entrepreneur in the field of fashion but pretty soon I got back to the office work. For some time I worked at Suomutunturi Ltd as the office assistant who is responsible for everything that is related with money and bookkeeping. Next I moved to work as office manager in a semi-big building company. There I did all the bookkeeping and financial statements. The company in question was a concern and its subsidiary was an own prefabricated element factory. After this I decided to become an entrepreneur in bookkeeping. My clients were from all around Finland, from Vihti all the way to Kilpisjärvi. In these times I got more familiar with the building business and the restaurant business. Many of my clients were from abroad and with different nationalities. While running my own bookkeeping business I have gone through everything that is possible and impossible. Working days were long and I didn t even notice the difference between weekdays and weekends. I sought for a buyer for my business for my clients who were used to getting a little more than one would assume to get from a bookkeeping office. So in year 2005 I found one like that and I sold my company. After a couple of years of resting I got to working in REIM Group as an accountant. I have been doing the companies financial statements and tax returns, as well. During this period I have been doing different kinds of special duties myself. Very often in my case I have been doing assignments in which I have had to dig deeper in the subject, in a way clean up someone else s mess. In a best case scenario I had to do the bookkeeping with financial statements and tax returns all over again after another accountant in another firm for the time period of six years. Over the years I have come familiar with different tax offices, We serve in these languages along with Finnish: English, Swedish, Ukrainian and Russian immigrant center, STTV (National Product Control Agency for Welfare and Health), alcohol permit regulations etc. and their ways operating. My entrepreneurship from earlier labels my ways of working very much. When doing the bookkeeping of a client I feel like I am still operating my own business. I really get into it and concentrate very thoroughly. The other day I was wondering what actually took me to where I am today. Suddenly I remembered how I was 8-10 years and I was waiting for the bus to come, shaking from the freezing weather outside. I went around for dozens of kilometers away from home, doing other people s, especially the old people s, tax returns! Back in the day it was a lot of work, one had to count all the receipts. I had done this work with my father; I worked as his calculator when he was doing other villagers tax returns. While helping my father I learned to do the tax returns. So, after all, I don t have to wonder for too long why I am still flipping these papers in my hands for the rest of my life. These days I just don t do private persons tax returns, but instead I concentrate more on businesses bookkeeping, even the more advanced ones. 3 The Spirit Of Partnership New CEO of REIM Mikkeli Ltd, Asko Laukkanen After having a long career Kari Kauppinen, AIT, retired from the role of CEO of REIM Mikkeli Ltd and Asko Laukkanen came to fill his shoes as the CEO. have you been working at REIM Mikkeli? I am a fifty-year-old housing manager and I started as the CEO of REIM Mikkeli on 1st February My housing managing career started partly by accident in the mid-80s in the strawberry town Sounenjoki. As a young man I thought the working title housing manager sounded as dry as librarian - well, it has been 25 years in this profession now and I still like to go to work every morning. So in that way I am privileged. Uusiin asemiin REIM Groupissa In commercial college I learned the basics of working life and after that I have educated myself actively - I am currently a business college graduate, ITS, LKV and my AIT is only missing its thesis. I gained my work experience in Suonenjoki and Mäntyharju in OP Real Estate Center. In Mikkeli I worked as an entrepreneur for ten years and in addition to this I made a small visit at Avara. For the last six years I worked as the CEO of Ristiinan Vuokratalot (Ristiina s Rent Control Houses). When Kari Kauppinen was retiring I applied for this job... and here I am leading the office of Mikkeli towards new challenges. I believe that by encouraging, by setting examples and with a positive attitude miracles can happen. Convergent working habits, professional attitude and good tools make working sensible and efficient - this is how we roll... What are your hobbies? As an eternal boy scout I am still in the scouting circles as an enabler and I like going downhill skiing. In addition to this I swim all year round. In my house lives, besides me, my ex-girlfriend and the widowto-be, and son Anton (8 years old) and daughter Alma (16 years old). this field? In the future I see the housing management business to have more team working - sometimes we housing managers forget to mention the important, but invisible, roles of the accountants and real estate secretaries. In addition to this I believe it is much easier if we openly tell where we are and where we want to go - this is no rocket science... It just is a fact that real estate managing is a good sport! In addition to this, I have the KED and LKV degrees, accounting degree I and MBA degree. Do you have any positions of responsibility and if you do, what are they? In addition to being in boards of REIM Group I don t have any other positions of responsibility at the moment. and challenging in your job? Meeting entrepreneurs and professional in different fields and doing interesting selling and marketing tasks. It is challenging to get positive results in the constantly changing business. I see the future of REIM Group good and growing, only if we can find good professionals to our offices and can introduce ourselves with the newest technology in the field as forerunners. Now I have the role of the management s assistant in REIM Group Ltd. My main tasks are translating different texts and I do some occasional office tasks. I also work for REIM Lappeenranta Oy and REIM Imatra Oy who have many Russian customers. am an educated translator (Finnish and Russian), I graduated from the University of Petrozavodsk in The most interesting aspect in my job is its varying and versatile work days, in the beginning of every day I get some interesting task to do. Sometimes it can be challenging but I like helping my co-workers and clients. My vision is that REIM Group s future is further developing and varying. I hope it only grows and gets stronger. 4 Introduction to the personnel of the parent company of REIM Group Vesa Koskinen - ICT professional of REIM Group What are your I am Vesa Koskinen and I am the ICT professional in REIM Group. I have been working for REIM Group since October 2010 and my job here at REIM Group Oy Ltd and its subsidiaries is to develop the ICT environment. I got an IT education in the end of 90s after which life has been one big education. The field of IT, or to be trendy, the field of ICT is developing and changing in such a pace that always some education is under development. I don t believe that one can actually ever graduate in this field. Do you have any positions of responsibility and if you do, what are they? I don t have any. In working life I concentrate fully on the development of the ICT environment in REIM Group and its subsidiaries. - The most interesting factor in my job is that every day is a little different. I get all kinds of challenges from little problems users are having to huge projects that come up when the work place gets totally destroyed by a fire. The most challenging factor in my work is finding the best ICT solutions to the needs of two totally different worlds. Challenges come up when the services provided should be simple enough and user-friendly for the users who use computer as one of the tools to get the full benefit. In the other scale are the users who couldn t work without a computer. They live fully in the electronic world and want the systems to adapt to them and not the other way around. These two worlds are very challenging to get on the same level. And I m not talking only about the REIM Group concern s personnel but also about our clients and their needs. We have the opportunity to provide different electronic services to our clients but most of these people haven t still found these services. REIM Group will continue being a big operator in the field of housing management and continue having a great role in developing housing management services. We will bravely reply to the challenges that the future will bring from the sectors of government or banking world. We will also develop ICT systems for them to serve future stakeholders and condominium boards better and more efficiently. In the future I see electronic services multiplying and making the handling of condominium tasks more real-time. I believe that even the busiest of people will get interested in condominium board places when it won t be time or place limited anymore. Through electronic services anyone can take part in doing tasks when it suits them best. Irina Rosenfeld Financial Manager of REIM Group What are your I am Irina Rosenfeld. I was born in Ukraine to a Russian- Ukrainian diplomat family which lead to me growing up in Mongolia which was my father s position. I studied in a university in Estonia and moved to Finland in I started as an accountant in REIM Group on 23rd February Since November 2010 I have worked as the financial manager of REIM Group. I am an educated economist and I graduated from University of Tarto in Do you have any positions of responsibility and if you do, what are they? Currently I have no other positions of responsibility. The most interesting factor is that REIM Group provides the conditions to develop professional knowhow and I can get valuable work experience from my work assignments. The most challenging thing is that as the financial manager I am responsible especially for our finances and budgets, and I am the consulting member of our group s companies financial questions. It requires constant developing of my knowhow. When looking at the future of REIM Group s financial management one should remember that financial management is a tool with which better control over the company can be gained. Thus means to improve the results of the company and its profitability.
