The enchanting capital of Greece has always been a birthplace for civilization. It is the city where democracy was born and most of the wise men of ancient times. The most important civilization of ancient world flourished in Athens and relives through some of the world's most formidable edifices. Athens is situated in the prefecture of Attica and extends to the peninsula that reaches up to Central Greece. It is surrounded by mountains Ymmytos, Pendeli and Parnitha, northwards and eastwards, and the Saronic gulf southwards and westwards. The sun is shining over Athens all year round. The climate is one of the best in Europe, with mild winters and very hot summers, ideal for tourism. It is located just a few kilometers from the port of Piraeus,the central commercial port of the capital, and the shores of southern Attica.Athens is constantly inhabited since Neolithic Age. The 5th century was the time of its ultimate bloom, when moral values and civilization surpassed city limits and became the mother land of western civilization. In the centuries that followed, many conquerors tried to take over Athens. In 1834 Athens was chosen to be the capital of the newly established Greek State. The city that now hosts more than 4,5 million people, was constructed around the Acropolis walls. The Holy Rock of Acropolis dates back to the 5th BC, the famous Golden Age of Periklis. Athens met times of bloom and decline, but still shines under the Attic sky gazing the future. Still sparkling like the marbles of Parthenon and the limpid white of Pentelic marble.the heart of Athens beats in Syntagma Square. Where Parliament and most of the Ministries are. 2 ITINERARY 4days / 3 nights DAY 01, Arrival at the International airport of Athens Eleftherios Venizelos. Meet and greet by our professional German speaking escort who will accompany the group till their hotel for check in. Transfer by deluxe airconditioned motorcoach towards the selected hotel. Upon arrival at the hotel welcome drink and private check in. Full day meeting. Lunch in the hotel. Coffee break. OPTION A : DINNER IN RESTAURANT DIONYSOS ( In the evening the group will be transferred to the restaurant Dionysos ( in the city centre with an excellent view of Acrópolis, where they can enjoy the dinner of today. Dionysos restaurant occupies one of the world s most privileged locations. Customers can enjoy the view of the magnificent Acropolis while enjoying their meal at Dionysos. The view is even better from the

3 restaurant located on the top floor serving Greek and international cuisine. The complex named after the Greek god of wine is the ideal resting place after a visit to the Acropolis. Customers can sit either in the courtyard or on the terraces shaded by tall trees. Transfer time 10-15minutes. OPTION B : DINNER IN THE RESTAURANT PLOUS PODILATOU ( ( AREA MIKLOLIMANO NEXT TO THE PORT OF PIRAEUS ) MIKROLIMANO Mikrolimano is another place you should visit in Piraeus. Mikrolimano is the second largest Yacht marina of the big port with lots of fish restaurants and only 15 minutes walk to the Stadium of Peace and Friendship in

4 Faliro.The port was protected by the goddess Mounihia Artemis that's why sometimes it is referred as port of Munihia. Its old name from the times of the Ottoman occupation was Tourkolimano. Today Mikrolimano it is a popular location, attracting people from all over Attica. It is a beautiful little harbour with fishing boats, small boats and luxury yachts. If you like fish and seafood have lunch or dinner at one of its famous taverns. many Greek films have used this location because of its idyllic atmosphere. Mikrolimano is a few minutes walk from Kastella, alternatively you can take the trolley from Pasalimani to get there. The trolley does not go down to the marina so you have to get off at Cavo Doro stop and go down by foot. On the same area located the Nautical Athletic Association. If you walk toward Faliro you will find numerous of bars and cafeterias under the hill of Kastella with amazing view to Faliro gulf and the Athletics Stadium. Transfer time 20-25minutes. 5 OPTION A : DINNER IN THE HERMEION TAVERN ( ) In the evening the group will be transferred to the Hermion tavern ( is located in the area of Plaka, where they can enjoy the dinner of today. Housed in an old structure on Pandrosou Street, not far from the center of Plaka, Hermion is a classic restaurant dedicated to the unique tastes and flavors of Greek cuisine. With the very freshest ingredients and meticulously prepared dishes, Hermion will win you over with the top quality of its cuisine and impeccable service. The area of Plaka is one of the most attractive districts of Athens. Under the slopes of the Acropolis Plaka attracts all the visitors of Athens with its neoclassical mansions and houses with roofs from red tiles, its small winding roads with their steps, balconies with bougainvilleas,geraniums and jasmines. Plaka is called many times in the Greek literature as the neighbourhood of the Gods and that because over Plaka dominates the sacred rock of the Acropolis "the sacred rock of the gods" who made the modern Athenians with the same humour like their Ancient ancestors, to personalise the Olympian gods having fun like them in Plaka with lots of Retsina wine and Dance. Sometimes being romantic on a sunny day you feel that the Greek goddess Athena looks down to Plaka with a smile in her divine face as the modern Athenians enjoy the sunshine in the street cafes at Adrianou street overlooking Thission the Ancient Agora and the rock of Arios Pagos. Transfer time 10-15minutes. OPTION B : DINNER IN THE ELAIA TAVERN ( In the evening the group will be transferred to the Elaia tavern, which is located in the area of Plaka. It is served Greek traditional cuisine and the tavern is traditionallly decorated. It can be offered either for lunch or dinner.

7 OPTION A : CULTURAL ACTIVITY : VISIT OF ACROPOLIS & PANORAMIC SIGHTSEEING TOUR (duration 3 hrs ) Professional German speaking guide will wait for the group in the lobby of the hotel at the arranged time in order to start the Athens Sightseeing. A panoramic tour of all places of interest within the city, such as the Panathenaic stadium (cradle of the first Olympic Games took place in 1896 (short stop). Pass by the Prime s Ministers, the Temple of Zeus, the parliament, the ex Royal Palace(guarded by colourful Evzones), Zappion (Conderence and Exhibition Hall), National Garden Hardian s Arc, St.Paul s Church, Parliament, Tomb of the Unknown sholdier, Schielman s House (Numismatic Museum), Catholic Cathedral, Academy, University, National Library, Old Parliament, Constitution Square,Russian Orthodox Church. Passing through the Propylea,Temple of Athena Nike from where you can admire the unique geometry of Parthenon,afterwards the Erechtheion. The Parthenon. It is the most important and characteristic monument of the ancient Greek civilization and still remains its international symbol. It was dedicated to Athena Parthenos, the patron goddess of Athens. It was built between 447 and 438 B.C. and its sculptural decoration was completed in 432 B.C. The construction of the monument was initiated by Perikles, the supervisor of the whole work was Pheidias, the famous Athenian sculptor, while Iktinos and Kallikrates were the architects of the building. The temple is built in the Doric order and almost exclusively of Pentelic marble. It is peripteral, with eight columns on each of the narrow sides and seventeen columns on each of the long ones. The central part of the temple, called the cella, sheltered the famous chryselephantine cult statue of Athena, made by Pheidias. The sculptural decoration of the Parthenon is a unique combination of the Doric metopes and triglyphs on the entablature, and the Ionic frieze on the walls of the cella. The metopes depict the Gigantomachy on the east side, the Amazonomachy on the west, the Centauromachy on the south, and scenes from the Trojan War on the north.

8 The relief frieze depicts the Procession of the Panathenaea, the most formal religious festival of ancient Athens. The scene runs along all the four sides of the building and includes the figures of gods, beasts and of some 360 humans. The two pediments of the temple are decorated with mythological scenes: the east, above the building's main entrance, shows the birth of Athena, and the west, the fight between Athena and Poseidon for the name of the city of Athens. The Parthenon retained its religious character in the following centuries and was converted into a Byzantine church, a Latin church and a Muslim mosque. The Turks used the Parthenon as a powder magazine when the Venetians, under Admiral Morosini, sieged the Acropolis in OPTION B : TEAM BUILDING ACTIVITIES : A) ATHENS SENSATIONS Discover Athens is an experiential treasure hunt game aiming to present to participants the Greek culture through an experiential way, in the oldest continuously inhabited area of the city. They will have to walk and run in all important sites of the town in order to collect points and hints using all 5 of the human senses. During their hunt they will have to communicate with shop owners, even speak some Greek. They will have to answer questions related to the history and the economy of the country, taste local products, take pictures, draw dance. One of the Venetian bombs fell on the Parthenon and caused a tremendous explosion that destroyed a great part of the monument which had been preserved in a good condition until then. The disaster was completed in the beginning of the 19th century, when the British ambassador in Constantinople, Lord Elgin, stole the greatest part of the sculptural decoration of the monument (frieze, metopes, pediments), transferred them to England and sold them to the British Museum, where they are still exhibited, being one of the most significant collections of the museum. Procedure: Briefing: Participants will be split in teams of people and will be given an envelope containing their brief and their tools (map, booklet, dictionary, paper, pencils, digital camera etc) Let the game begin: For the next 3 hours they will have to visit different parts of the town in order to get the necessary information or hint to proceed. At each point a Trekking Hellas representative will be present to facilitate the procedure.

9 Tasks: Greek Quiz (answer and learn about the history, culture, economy and gastronomy of the country) Tastes Greek: Salty food stand: participants have to identify different varieties of Greek cheese (feta, graviera, etc) and olives accompanied by traditional greek bread. (3 varieties of cheese and 3 varieties of olives) Sweet food stand: there will be three different and very characteristic Greek deserts: masticha Greek music: Participants standing next to a professional bouzouki player have to dance syrtaki using only the guidelines submitted to them! Extra bonus for a team member who will play a short Greek theme with the Bouzouki. Painting in blue: Greece = blue! Using a variety of blue paints the team is asked to mix the colors and produce a painting on canvas representative of Greece or a specific theme. Greek Photo Shots: Given digital cameras participants have to discover particular places, items related to the Greek culture, architecture history (old doors, statues, street names etc) and take pictures of them. Duration: 3 hours Participation requirements: Basic physical condition Operation: Throughout the year ypovrihio meaning submarine in Greek, loukoumi (greek delight) and glyko tou koutaliou. Greek drinks stand: 5 different Greek drinks will be offered to participants to taste and identify: Greek Ouzo, Metaxa Brandy, mastic, white and red wine. Participants will have to identify them according to their different characteristics such as acidity, aroma, degree of dryness etc. Smells Greek: Participants smell spices hidden in bags (cinnamon, oregano, thyme etc.) and must find the origin of each smell. B) TREASURE HUNT IN THE HISTORIC CENTRE OF ATHENS The idea: Participants split in teams have to wander around in the oldest part of Athens! The aim behind this game, apart from fun, is to present to participants the Greek culture through an experiential way, in the oldest continuously inhabited area of the city.

The setting: As soon as you start walking around Plaka s stone paved, narrow streets you feel like travelling back in time. You will be delighted by the beauty of the neo-classical colours of the houses, the architecture, the elegance and the atmosphere of the area. Procedure: Briefing: Participants will be split in teams of people and will be given an envelope containing their brief and their tools (map, booklet, dictionary, paper and pencils). Duration: 2 ½ hours Participation requirements: Basic physical condition Operation: Throughout the year OPTION A : DINNER IN THE RESTAURANT ELEAS GI ( ) TASTES FROM GREECE In the evening the group will be transferred to the Restaurant Eleas Gi, in the north of Athens (approx. 45minutes transfer time ). It s worth to dine there,since the restaurant is excellent, traditionally Greek decorated, with a unique menu of approximately 15 plates of food tasting plates from all over Greece.

11 Approximate dinner duration 2 hours that gives the opportunity to the participants to get to know each other. This restaurant is located in Kifissia, at the exact place where the world renowned restaurant "Ta Kioupia" restaurant used to be. The two-floor house has changed its style of decoration and now pale colours and gentle lights, create the most relaxing of atmospheres. Young olive trees adorn the room, whilst the traditional wood oven (xylofrounos) still provides the focal point. The restaurant has no menu cards! The eclectic owner has been on a life s quest, collecting recipes from all over Greece and the islands, not only classical cooking which would have been enjoyed by the ancient Greeks but, even further back to the Bronze age Mycenaeans.
