4 Office Communicator 2007 R2 PC Desktop Client Manual configuration of Office Communicator 1. The Microsoft Office Communicator 2007 R2 client is included with your service and can be downloaded from the TELUS Unified Communication Services - Support Site. 2. Launch Microsoft Office Communicator 3. Open the connection menu in the top left hand corner of your communicator window and select Connect > Change Sign-In Address. 4. Add your address as the Sign-in Address and click Advanced.
5 3. Choose Manual configuration 4. Specify server name: Internal server name: sip.ocs.telus.com:443 External server name: sip.ocs.telus.com: Choose connect using: TLS and click OK. 6. Then, click OK to close the Tips: Outlook communicator will attempt to sync to your default Outlook Profile. You can select your default Outlook Profile by going Start > Control Panel > Mail > Show Profiles. If you cannot locate the Mail icon within your Windows Control Panel, please try the following steps. To the left of the Windows Control Panel, but in the same window, please locate Classic View. If Mail still does not appear as an individual icon, please look for it under Show 32-bit Control Panel Items. You may need to install a patch to gain full functionality between Microsoft Communicator and Outlook. If this is the case a notification will be displayed in Communicator with a link to the update from Microsoft. Troubleshooting If you experience issues with Audio/Video Conferencing, media or file transfer, the problem may be that the necessary ports are not open on your firewall. Refer to Appendix A in this guide and verify that the corresponding ports are open. Microsoft Office Communicator 2007 R2 Getting Started Guide This guide gets you started with Office Communicator 2007 R2. It describes the new features in Office Communicator 2007 R2, and outlines common Communicator tasks, including creating and managing your contact list, managing your presence information, starting IM, audio, and video, and desktop sharing sessions with one or more other participants, and using telephony features.
6 Office Communicator Web Access About Office Communicator Web Access The 2007 R2 release of Microsoft Office Communicator Web Access provides browser-based client access to many of the features found in Microsoft Office Communicator 2007 R2, including instant messaging; audio conferencing; desktop sharing; and enhanced presence (the ability to know whether or not someone is online and, if so, whether he or she is ready, willing, and able to communicate with you). With Communicator Web Access, you can send instant messages; take part in multiparty conference calls; keep track of who is or isn t online; let people know whether or not you are online; and even view whatever another person s computer desktop. Because Communicator Web Access provides these capabilities over your Web browser, there is no need to install additional software of any kind to access most Communicator Web Access functionality. You must install the Communicator Web Access plug-in in order to share your desktop with other people. Furthermore, these capabilities are not limited to people using Microsoft Windows. If you are a Macintosh or Linux user and you are using a supported Web browser, you can also use Communicator Web Access Signing In to Communicator Web Access Before you can sign in to Communicator Web Access, you must disable the popup blocker for your Web browser. Communicator Web Access makes extensive use of popup windows. For example, each time you start a new instant messaging session that session takes place in a popup window. For details about disabling pop-up blockers, see the documentation for your browser. The sign-in window looks like this: Signing-in to Communicator Web Access: 1. Open a browser window. 2. In the address field of your browser, type telus.com/instantmsg 3. Enter your username@yourdomain.com and associated password, select one of the following: This is a public or shared computer (session will time out after 15 minutes) This is a private computer (session will time out after 720 minutes) 4. Click Sign In
7 Troubleshooting If you experience problems when using Communicator Web Access, the problem may be that the necessary ports are not open on your firewall. Refer to Appendix B in this guide and verify that the corresponding ports are open. Microsoft Office Communicator Web Access 2007 R2 Getting Started Guide This guide gets you started with Communicator Web Access 2007 R2. It describes the new features in Communicator Web Access 2007 R2 and outlines common tasks, including how to use the instant messaging, presence, telephone conferencing, and desktop sharing features of Communicator Web Access.
